Legitimate* jobs that don't generally drug test

I've been thinking about getting a job again, been almost 2 years since i got laid off..get's boring being out of work when everyone you know is at work all day...and health Ins. wouldn't be a bad thing to have..lol. Over the last year or so, I've been tossing around the idea of starting my own business, just a small auto repair shop - brakes/exhaust/tune ups etc..maybe flip a couple cars a year. .After doing some research it's going to be prohibitively expensive for me to open the shop i would have liked to due to licensing/Ins regulations( need $20g's just to get that going) and the fact the town won't allow me to work out of my garage - 30x40 garage..250' off the street..no neighbors for 200' in each direction..they say it will disturb the neighborhood..ya..the bar down the street doesn't do that multiple times a week..police are always there. ( :finger: the American dream my ass..only if you already have $$$ to play with)..sorry rant off..

I've come to the conclusion and I'd be better off just getting a job. I started thinking... What jobs are out there that don't normally drug test? and i answered.."I have no F'ing clue"..so I've come here for help( probably going to be mistake #1 right there...) I've always done manufacturing/machining/assembly type jobs and a piss test is usually SOP.. i don't want to deal with it. I'm a jack of all trades so I'm not worried about sticking with what I've done. Only requirements i really have is no dealing with the general public..no retail/sales jobs...I'd end up strangling someone and something in the mid to upper teens( $16-$18/hr)for pay would keep me comfortable...throw some ideas my way..I'm not planning on starting to look for a couple months..just starting to get the ball rolling..and i roll sloooooow.

kinda on topic...Just had a funny thought..are there any MJ related jobs where they DO drug testing..that would be kinda funny - "Wanna work at our dispensary..here piss in this cup"..you failed!..YOU'RE HIRED!!..OR.... "you're clean..we can't hire you, sorry"

I'm gonna sit here and smoke a bowl and wait for replies...because i have nothing better to do at the moment..

A job like detailing cars all day is pretty mindless, stress free work and I'm sure you could plug the headphones in and smoke weed all day. I had a job at a car and truck rental place for a while I was busy for a couple hours in the morning, then went over the road for an early lunch and chatted to the office girls for most of the rest of the day and pulling $1000 a week

Shit I don't really care if i can smoke all day, it'd be nice, but I'll survive..I think..

I've done auto detailing, my mother had her own business for 5 yrs or so who i worked with ( no stress there..:wall:), and i worked at a body shop where i prepped the cars to go out..wasn't too bad until my OCD kicked in, you know when you clean something..and then that last little bit of dirt you didn't get really sticks out?..I'd go back after it..then the next piece of dirt would stick out, then it was streak marks from the cleaner i was using..and black paint..fughetabboutit..I'd hand rub it trying to chase out swirl marks..my boss at the body shop loved me..$300 one day turn around repaint on a door got a 1.5 hr detail..lol...profit margin??..but once the customers started commenting on how good the cars looked..he just started quoting more $$ and let me go at it. I should see how much equipment my mother still has..might be worth doing it again on the side..i think she was getting around $150 a car at the time for a basic detail, and we would schedule 3 or 4 a day..hmmmmm.

It is AWESOME being home when everyone else is working! Doesn't your grow keep you pretty busy during the day? If not here's some suggestions -

Go to bed when they're getting up to go to work, there's a large part of the day gone already

Learn many new skills - learn a language or two, get awesome at your favorite instrument, get out to the tennis or basketball courts, you'd be surprised at the excellent comp from athletes with no job. Get down with food and watch cooking shows to become a good amateur chef. Ride your bike downtown, smoke joints and laugh at all the folks working their asses off for peanuts. Read all the classics, or study philosophy. You'll soon see that none of this matters anyway, we'll all be dead soon, and no one will remember you in 100 years as if you never existed.

If you structure your time the day passes quickly and before you know it, you have cool, new skills...

kitchen work doesn't drug test as far as I know.

Contracting doesn't either unless you go union.

You could try and get a job at a junkyard. There's always a pick-a-part somewhere where people come and get used parts to fix their cars.

If you have the equipment how about a mobile mechanic kind of deal. I knew a guy who would do that. You call him and he drives out to where your car is and fixes it on the spot... unless there's a major issue with it. In that case he'd just take it to his place and fix it in his yard.

speaking from experience, most high level well paying jobs just do the initial drug test, and that is it, only job I had that was random was when I was union right after I got outta the marines, ever since I quit that one Its been the one and done...

Or they could be like me when I hired guys for my cousin's plumbing business that I kinda know....get um in the truck on the first day, and say "you are going to have to take a drug test" when they start to freak out hand um a joint and say "if you smoke all this by yourself you pass the drug test"

I think 'who' is doing the hiring is pretty important too. The problem is that once you get to a company of a certain size, they have AR staff n shit. Also, insurance companies had started to mandate it or really sting you on premiums. This was for an industrial shop of about 40. Presses, tool and die, etc.. But when it was my decision I decided to ignore any positives for marijuana. Didn't tell them that, just ignored it. So I guess my advice is to just go for it. You never know. Are there negative aspects to failing?

I have NEVER been drug tested. I've worked marketing, PR, and customer service positions for 5 different places, ranging from tiny to massive companies. Small, private, "progressive" businesses don't drug test... it's just an extra expense and the extensive interview process eliminates the need.

Just about everywhere test here, even when I was sub contracting. I know for a fact I was hot on some test cause I saw the lines. Ignored every time. But of course I'm the type that is half an hour early.

Yea ive failed a few times, this girl in her early 20's looks at it, looks at me, back at the cup, puts her thumb on the strip, it works, looks at me. And smiles....

Or the lab results show im failing out the ass, always over looked. ive even had someone retake the test for me.

And yea contrary to what i present at riu im a really good worker.

Once yu get past pre-employment screenings most crappy jobs dont drug test again, most good jobs will at some point. I get it monthly, no big deal though.
Hope that even made sense im gone

Get on the oilfield. Some of these jobs here even let you "study" for the test. Sling wrenches on the rig fer a few and toughen up.
Hope you're not talking about Fort MacMurry.

30,000 people got laid off in this last year. Not a fun place to be right now.

Also, if you work for a company like Suncore or Sincrude - then you have to get drug tested. I know this because my tree planters were planting trees on the Suncore property in 2012 and 2013 when I was there. They all had to pass a piss test.

So I went to the local head shop and bought $1800.00 in drug masking kits. They just looked like a smoothie and were like 80 bucks a piece.

But everyone passed! It may be that the lab was not testing for pot. Or that those weird swill drinks really did work.

I'm in Canada though - I'm sure things are different in the U S of A.

P.S. If you get a medical marijuana prescription, I believe it's unconstitutional for them to deny you your medication for a job. And also illegal to deny you a job because of said medication.

Obviously if you are operating heavy machinery, there would have to be something in writing that you would not work those machines while under the influence. But THC stays in your body for a long time, and if that shit showed up in a drug test - they have no way of knowing if it's for night time use or not.

If the workplace takes a hard line on it, and the test is during the hiring process - you might not get the job, because they can really hire whomever you want.

But it's nice to have a bit of peace of mind. I'm not worried.

They don't seem to drug test in sales.

I live in the remotest of places. Northern BC. Might need a kit, might not, depending on the company or the situation or your level of thc in the body. The recession did reach here hard, but not too too much of a level clearly, as places are hiring in bulk and in spade in the current month, now that the bans are off. I guess they aren't hiring Yankees most like. Just fucking Cape Bretoners and Newfies. Goddamn job stealers. Uh, I have also been drinking for 15 hours straight. Don't take me to heart.

Those drug kits are fucked. I'm trying the masker next time. I tried the fake piss pouch and it didn't warm up enough. Put it in my armpit and everything. Fucker said it wasn't piss. I wasn't sure whether it was the temperature or the smell that set her off.

Hmmmm...I wish I remembered the name of the swill I bought.

It worked on 27 heavy weed smoking tree planters.

I only know from what my Albertan buds have told me about the Fort Mac. Obviously more people will get hired and the price of oil will go back up. Already my gas is 20 cents a litre more expensive than it was a few months ago.

You are also the NORTH eh? I'm Thunder Bay - I love the northerners!

WINTER IS COMING....
