Legal Weed is destroying Cannabis Genetics

The variety is less, and sour diesel is one of the reasons I’m making this post. I haven’t seen that strain available for almost 5 years. I see people naming things sour diesel sometimes, but it’s not.
It sucks that older awesome strains seem to just vanish over a decade. Like the skunks and reall cheese strains from the '80s & '90s. Now these New Fruity strains have been all stepped on, watered down versions of the original.

The whole reason I started growing was because I was super disappointed with the quality @ my local dispo. I would get home and open the sealed container only to find 35%rH cannabis which is unacceptable. The best thing I ever got from the dispensary was that GG4 bag seed that started it all for me & the rest is history :hump: I live in IL WHERE YOU DO NEED A LICENSE TO GROW even through it’s legal for med & Rec. got tired of playing rock, paper, scissors to see if this time would be good or bad :wall: Don’t get me wrong I still make the occasional trip, but that is for extracts.:weed:

Also I am noticing it’s getting harder to get pure sativa’s... which is bullshit because I bet if it took Phizer 1 year to make a super strength Viagra you wouldn’t see less of it on the shelf, it would just cost more. Why can’t dispensaries see this and just tax pure sativa’s more? Medicine is medicine.
Sativas take a lot longer to harvest than indica’s which is why you don’t see a lot of them in stores. Which is exactly my point. It’s up to us to keep them alive

What you might be seeing is novices getting into it but not having the chops yet.
I’ve been to dispensaries from coast to coast and buy top shelf, mid shelf. 20 years. I’m saying the quality and variety is slowly becoming less on the big scale. I’ve seen the best and have it currently.

You have the same memories of me, I haven’t seen a real haze or sour diesel in about 5 years. Cheese was a classic.

Sour Diesel will never be the same as it used to be. It has been ‘dudded out’ due to overbreeding. I saw a cool mini documentary about the history of sour d narrated by someone who was close to the original breeder in NY. There is a good possibility that the sour d of today has nothing in common with the original

Then what should they be named? Thats like saying three guys named "John Smith" arent really "John smith" because the first one named that was centuries ago

No Kidding man. Back in high school in the early nineties. We had 2 kill strains from our click of friends. It was either the skunk ya had to triple bag so your parents didn't smell it. Or the weed that tasted like old milk and would make me pass out after 1 bowl. LOL, AWE, what good times they were LMAO!

Agreed, what will be the next "strain" to get the treatment? I've been loading up on landrace varieties lately. I seriously pheno hunt, always, When a pheno that really rocks shows up, she can be bred back to a stabilized strain. My mission in life is to be involved in the creation of a strain well respected. I've made some mind blowin' beans but, until now, I have not had the time to stabilize. When I get a winner, I share. be nice

Do you know the name of the doc? I grew sour diesel and NYC diesel for about 5 years, 10 years ago. I wish I kept them. I was in Los Angeles, they were true genetics. If you fed them too much or had any light leaks they would hermie. Every grower I knew hated it, I was the only one who loved the strain and figured out how to work it. This is the type of strain this post is about. Most people give in, and commercial grows won’t touch it.

If it smells like OG, if it looks like OG. It’s OG. The new trend I’ve cream cake has 200 names, it’s all the same smell, taste, look.

I never heard of Blueberry Muffin until I picked up an eighth at a dispensary.
It was some of the tastiest weed I ever smoked.
The first time I picked up some Tangie was at a dispensary too.
I’ve been cross breeding with Crocket’s seeds for 4 years now.
Sour Diesel may be going the way of Thaistick.
Shit, Coke doesn’t taste like Coke anymore.
Things change.
Doesn’t mean it’s better or worse.
There’s so much out there that is good. Don’t focus on the past. Try something new. You might like it.

I support you and your cause. I spent 9 years breeding until I created my one. Now I have 3, the ones. The father genetics of my best strain is from a hermied original OG. I just worked it with about 3 other strains for years. I hope you get a winner also.

Out here in the Bay Area, a bunch of classic strains are making a huge comeback in the grey/black market. Bubba, OG, GDP, WW, GG4 etc. The genetics really aren’t that hard to get if you know the right folks.

i lived in emeryville, east bay for years. I believe those people will keep some of the original strains alive. They created most of them. Thanks for confirming they’re still alive!

Thanks bro, I've got only my one at present but I'll have more;). I am just now converting to organics so I have details to watch everywhere. But I see a lovely girl calling my nose ever closer. A scent that's nearly visible. I just found my next target.

We are pretty spoiled up here for sure! It’s so prevalent that we give it away. I hadn’t seen my buddy in years and he swung by my house last month and left me with this nice mature GDP mother. Just potted her in one of my 50 gallons. Gonna be a monster come October!37F3B1B9-3338-4359-8496-B61C2F9A6656.jpeg
