thats what i did i bought one had it about a week and liked it so much i bought another to completely cover my stinkbud sys. i did run a side by side test for that week with my 400 mh over half the sys and my new led over the other half the led side did just as well if not better. although i will admit the 400 did a better job of coverage than just one blackstar. i must also say that i have the entire system surrounded w/reflective bubble wrap works pretty good for me.and its easy to work with. been researching led lights for a while and all the other brands just cost too much, granted blackstar only have a one year warranty vs 3-5 for some of the other mfg. but damn for the initial savings im willing to venture 500. plus their in the states which is nice
good luck

led is not a wise option for the price vs performance...that is the truth...fact...anything else is bull crap hype for you very dirty dollar...but it is your dollar so waste it if you want

Namaste"
have ya tried it?
been doin this shit for 8 years now seen a few things, learned from a guy who grew commercially for 35 he thinks they have potential..........we'll see

besides what a shithead post im here giving facts period .this is what i experienced. but i guess i must be lying huh? the fact is you saying "led is not a wise option for the price vs performance" is not fact or truth it is your OPINION it is my OPINION that the payoff is after the first year. it is just an OPINION because i have not had them for a year yet so if you have some FACTS or TRUTHS please post them if not no need to insult anyone here

in 5 years when the price comes down and the performance goes up maybe...Dude NASA tried it with leds that were bright as fuck but found it not feasible because of the narrow bandwidths even when combined couldn't cut it...and that was with technology and funding that NONE of these ripoff manufacturers even have access to much less can manufacture....but like I said waste your money if you want to it is yours

I have an LED light over 2 plants and they're happy plants. I can't imagine using anything else. I honestly think it's a smarter way to grow: save money, save electricity, save the environment, radically reduced levels of heat, and simple successful quality grows. Winning? I think so...

My advice is to go with 2-3W over 1W models; although if you're on a tight budget like you said and only using to supplement your t5s, honestly any LED light at least 90W will do your girls well. I haven't experimented with using veg and flower spectrum specific models yet, and even though I've seen satisfying results from a mixed panel thus far, I'm still thinking about experimenting with more blues for veg and more reds for flower. Next round that'll be my new lab test.

not a cheapo, have "real lights" no kid either. been on both sides of the fence( hid, led) and will say one more time for veg anyways mine kick ass dont worry tho im not throwin out my 400 mh yet just hangin on the wall in case somethin happens to my leds besides if i were a cheapo would i have dropped over 500 on two lights? ah fuk it
you are right leds suk. hid is the only way to go. anyone who uses leds are idiots and wasting their money
did i miss anything?
im out

Nah dont say that.I will see whats up with leds and most led grows i see are 1 gram per watt easily so thats pretty good

I think it really depends on a person's situation. Not everyone can or would dare start hanging illuminated hairdryers(HPS, MH etc)in confined places. Got your sprinklers? Then there's the electricity bill which could trigger suspicion. LED are unproven until you try for yourself. That's what I'm going to do or try. It wont be entirely scientific but it will be simple. 2 Sativa strains, 12/12 light cycle in 5 gallon pots under 1 blackstar. I might use two kinds of soil but that might not be a good measure because different phenotypes(if I'm using the correct term) may produce differently. I do not know. Whatever the case who knows what will happen? i will pop 2 seeds and ride it.

The worst case scenario is they get very leggy as they seek out better light and thus produce a light load. 12/12 is a mystery to me. What I would like to happen is I keep their height down, coverage strong and to find out they like the light enough to grant me a "personal consumption" supply.

do you have a thread with those lights being used i would like to see them in action..
Oh yeah i believe people called him on that and he started cursing people out and acting like a little kid.
I haven't started a journal since I don't have any start to finish yet. I just finished getting all the lights a week or so ago. I might start one though. I just planted 6 beans yesterday. 2 ice, 2 raspberry cough, and 2 bubblicous.

Yeah start a journal i owuld like to see what they do from start to finish as i know i can easily pull 4-6 oz from a 400 watt.I know leds do better or have the capability to do the same.

You are right they are good for veg and do pull off nice grows. But two things i have to say 1.ledbudguy was called out and decided to leave because he was lying so i wouldnt say check him out.
2.They are too costly and would not get the penetration a hid can get you.You would really have to have your grow dialed in in all factors to out perform a hid + the claims on the led are really misleading like how they say 90 watt ledd = 400 hps thats straight bs and so on with the rest.
For you to have a good led light you will pay more than 3 or 4 hps lights which in turn would mean you spend way more money.Paying 1000 for a good led light instead of getting a good 1000 watt digital ballast, bulb and reflector for 250 or 300 at most and be out performing that led light and its costs..
I dont see no leds being used in getting pounds every 2-3-4 week grows
My problem lies in the heat given off by hps. I'd really rather not have to deal with extra cooling costs, even if that means paying more upfront for lights that stay cool. I just need something more to supplement my 8 T5's during flowering. Any advice on how many of what watt I'd need? 4'9"x4'9"x6'5"

As far as the spectrum specific models go, would you think that I'd need a flowering specific model? or could I get an all around model and do just as well, because I'd be able to use it through veg as well?

The Blackstar looks the best for the money. Around 30-40 watts per sq ft. for a LED grow imo. A 280 Blackstar is good for about a 2x2' grow, 120 or so actual watts btw.

I would go with the 3 watt models of any type, little better penetration. I have older 1 watt HGL units, they work ok too. You could put the t-5 on the sides of the grow for lower lighting. I have a 55 watt pll flouro hanging vertically in middle of 2x2' tent for lower buds, with LED overhead.

the GOOD "all around models" are pretty salty but from what i have seen produce excellent results. isis makes a couple of good models spectra is another good brand. i REALLY like the looks of the isis myself but just couldn't justify buying them @ this time

For my first LED grow, I went with the all around model suited for veg and flower. I think you can find a good model that does both, granted all around models might cost a bit more, but less equipment might be a good thing for you. The plants obviously respond to the blue and red lights different during veg and flower, but the extra spectrums that come with the all around model isn't going do any harm either. I went with a model that does 11+ wavelengths of color to try and hit all the right spectrums. Plus, if you go with the veg-flower model, you can always add some blue grow spot lights for veg or red for flower to improve growth even more. But if you're not planning on vegging and flowering in same space, might be worth it to get a veg only model too.

What companies/models have you been looking at? Maybe we can help narrow it down to a few
