I really would love to buy a new fangled LED to get fancy new lenses, modular design, etc... unfortunately (or fortunately), i just can't find any good reason to switch from mine :)

3 more weeks til flower :)

So far I have had unwelcome results with the led growing lights I'm using. I am not going to quit quite yet, if something doesn't start helping I will go back to the HID's next run.
I use cheap chinese 90 watt led UFOs. I add white with cheap chinese 9watt spots. I make a kinda string of lights using bathroom bar lights gutted. I hang them from the UFOs. The white spots help a bunch and are cheap on ebay. Now they are about $3 each if you buy 10. I just switched to flowering so I'll see how this setup works in that mode. I also use a tracker for the leds. So far the plants are much bushier under the leds than they were under a 600 watt HID. Most of the new LED grow lights have some white in them. It seems to me they need even more white, maybe 1/3 white. But you can easily add white spots if you have the older type. I use both warm and cool.

Nice! Ive been trying my damnedest to get a second LED for the TV grow. My Esnipe keeps getting out esniped by a dollar or two on the 240 BS. Currently rocking just a Haight ppf-800 Its doing good but If I got the room for two fixtures then why the hell not rock two fixtures right?

Thread in my siggy.

got the final weight of my LED grow at 403 grams. A pinch less than i wanted but this Sour Kush stain has always been a lower yielder. I plan on running Blueberry under the same LED and i bet i can hit 1.5 per light next go, I have hit those numbers before with my 1000 HPS so we will see.. I will keep everyone updated as to when that starts. Need to take some time off.

Just ordered a Blackstar 240 w to go with my Haight ppf-800 (420 watt) hehe

Going to run them side by side. I still have the par meter so I will be able to get some readings off of it and I'll post a comparison and total in another thread. All I know is my TV grow is going to be rockin!

Does the UV spectrum bulbs in our units pose a significant risk to our eyesight? Should we be wearing UV protective glasses when working in our grow area while lights on?

First post:

Anyone familiar with lighthouse's 270w blackstar chrome?

Seems like a new version for 2013 (didn't realize the world of led's worked like the automotive world, releasing model years a year ahead :) )? Some of their sales speak scares me a little, they mention with their new diodes, chipset, and lenses that this new light could be too intense for some strains. Are they just trying to big up their light, or are they just trying to inform their customers?

I'm a newbie grower and have been getting by with the clever placement of cfl's but think a very efficient led light would really help me out for flowering. Unfortunately, the cost of even the blackstar is a little prohibitive for me right now (this could be the straw that broke the camels back w the old lady!), but if I was absolutely certain with its efficacy, I just might risk it!

What strains, in your opinion and or experience could withstand very intense led light? Do I want to be limited like that? Would I have to pass up on certain strains only because they won't work under high intensity LEDs?

Thanks people, I'm having the time of my life.

Do you wear uv protection sunglasses every time you go outside? Guarantee you it puts out far less uv than natural light -- from what i've heard the UV they put out is very minimal.

Ordered my custom spectrum Apollo 4 from China $209 shipped with a 3 year warranty and it took them a few days to build it. Shipped out last week, being patient sucks. One of my friends uses the Apollo 8 on his aquarium, different spectrum of course, and his live rock tank has taken off. Cant wait to finish my random outdoor bagseed under it. I got the hps on standby just in case.:weed:

what spectrums did you go with? if i went ahead and got one i'd want to get mostly white diodes, or at least as much white as red... it seems the plants do better with some whites, separate from intensity which is greater.

I pretty much do... I don't go outside without my sunglasses which are uv protectant. I just wasn't sure how much these pumped out.
