I think you would do MUCH better by getting several lesser power lights than 1 500water. My choice for a 4x4 would be 4x180W Spectras. If you can't afford it, go for the 4x100W UFO Spectras. This will give you the best overall coverage, interlacing and spectrum mixing from multiple lights and you can adjust the heights according to your canopy. I would go for this 4 light setup over the 2x290W Spectras because a single 290W covers a 3x3, so two of them side by side will not perfectly cover a 4x4 - a 1x4 area will not receive optimal light. Or if you want to save some more cash go with the 4x240 Blackstars to cover the 4x4.

I agree that more smaller panels would be better core coverage over a 4x4 space until I or any others with larger single panels can kick out a great grow with one panel.

Also agree. Im on another forum that supports LED users a little more and the guys running only 1 or 2 of the big 500w panels are not doing well. Torching plants, poor yields etc. If you wanna imitate ledbudguy, dunit, irishboy, etc use the smaller powered lights they used

needs more pics and info! HOw long into floering? strain?

If u are running the same strain, seems liek the plants farthers from the light are doing the best which could be why e need to raise our lights up.

There's my journal. I didn't do a full one this time because I wasn't sure how it was going to go due to summer temps here. Right now, I'm running an unknown purp strain, Barney's LSD (these are the laggers but they're catching up quick), Kannabia White Domina and Big Band. The unknown purp strain and the LSD are the ones under the LED's along with two white dominas.

The pics I put up here are 42 days of flowering. I'm running 2 290w GLH Spectras and a Luxim Plasma in a shed. The Plasma plants are doing great too. I didn't post them in this thread because it is an led thread but they're in my journal.

I doubt anyone would object to you posting pics, please post pics...

What is the forum you mention? also I am beggining to wonder if the comfort zone on the bigger panels means they need to be higher to the canopy, does this forum cover any of this?

Yea, I'll post them as i take them. I usually do about every 7 days or so. I usually post the bulk of them in my thread. Recently I have been posting a few in Irishboy's thread and think I will bump this thread with them too.

I'm talking minimum 18-24 inches if not more throughout. Not the 6 inches most guys are doing...
Pretty sure GLH is saying to keep the 500s at least 24 inches away based on the new lab results, I guess it was stronger than they thought. Although its said that there are some growing at 18in or less without issue, but I sure wouldn't drop it less than 2ft. I don't even lower my 2011 395w GLH to less than 18in now (though I did flower hps grown plants at 12in without issue). I agree more lights is better than a big one, if a space is 4x4 or more you should go multiple panels. 180w GLH would be my first choice, with 240* (140w) blackstars being my 2nd choice

Here are some pic of my two 600 Blackstar LED's (348watts actual draw) in action. The strains are pure Kush and sage n sour in a Stinkbud aero/nft system. The plants are 14 day in flower right now.

I've noticed that trend with LED's and I'm sure it has to do with how directional LED light is. It's still such a huge obstacle to spread the light evenly in the home light bulb LED replacements by the big names. I suspect that 120 - 180 actual watts are all you need to grow great bud and anything higher in wattage and yield efficiency will need bigger spacing between diode's (a larger physical panel). I think a easy way to prove that theory would simply be to figure out whats the least amount of LED Watts that will cause leaf bleaching at 6 inches, that would then be the magic number, Plants shouldn't benefit with wattage beyond that (at 6-8" at least) without having a larger physical size to match the wattage increase.

In a nutshell if a 140w 18"x11 panel bleached leaves at 6" above a plant having a 360w panel the same physical size wouldn't have the same spread per optimum light pattern as 2 of the 140w panels. Any thoughts?

Nice plant! do you have a journal going? If not you should do one because I don't think anyone has done one with a 600w Blackstar yet.
Yeah I do have one over at Led bud guy. I should start one over here too im just sick of the haters but there seems to be more love coming around now. Oh and has anyone used a light rail system with led's?? and how well it works? I just ordered a light rail that can hold 3 lights so I guess we will find out.

As a product designer I have been wondering for some time why the larger panels are not designed pyhsically larger, everyone seems to want to focus on placing the diodes in a small surface area, I have not heard of any manufacturer working on different spacings.

I've been reading more and more that a light mover is the way to go, nobody seems to touch on the reasoning why though, why do you want to get one?
