<====New to site:

So I recently switched over to two 90W LED UFOs and am well into my third week of flowering. So far they seem to be working just as well as my old HPS. I've already seen a reduction in my electricity bill and I no longer worry about the temperature in the grow room. Unless something happens from now until harvest, I can safely say I'll be an LED grower for life!
Your two 90w UFO LEDs are seemingly doing as well as your old HPS lamps - what exactly was your old lighting configuration please (how many HPS lamps of how many watts each)?

there is a guy online who's site is called growitled.com i am curious if anyone has used the products he sells. i have spoken with him, and he has been pretty forthright. even suggesting supplemental lighting, but I am mainly curious about results. He is no rocket scientist, but seems pretty honest. feedback feedback feed me please!!!!

I was running one 400w HPS. And I only added the second UFO a few days ago so essentially one UFO was doing the work of a 400w HID at only 80% of the power consumption. If you're thinking about switching over, make sure you get a TriBand or QuadBand so you still get a good spectrum of light.

I hate to say it, bud, but this seller is a scammer selling a gimmick product. Just the claims alone in the specs you posted are ridiculous. Equivalent to a 250W HPS? Not possible for a 14W panel. The specs in the listing say that the recommended coverage is 4 sq-ft. (approx. 2x2); the listing also says the maximum coverage is 65 sq-ft. (approx. 8x8). He expects people to believe him that this dinky little 14W light can affect growth in an 8x8 room? Maybe negatively, but certainly not positively. I also took a look at the 90W UFO. He claims it can do the work of a 600W to 1000W HPS system -- a claim that is impossible with the current LED technology.

Now, you all know that I'm pro-LED in every sense of the word. But these are the reason that LEDs aren't getting the response that they should. Because the large majority of people who have "tried LEDs" have used these inferior products, they aren't seeing the results that the dealer promises. And I say dealer, because I think of it this way. Every pot dealer I've ever done business with claims to have "fire" or "kind" at some point or another. Only on a select few occasions has the moniker been deserved, and these are the dealers I went back to. It's the same with LEDs, they will all claim the same thing, but it's up to the end-user to determine the value of the product.

This guy, on the other hand, looks to be a slight bit more reputable. He, as you say, is pretty forthright with his information. It is still clear he is selling to make a profit (who doesn't?) , but at least his information and comparisons are closer to home. I'd like to see some of the results from his own in-house tests before I would buy a product. Especially the 600W, being that it is made with both 1W and 3W LEDs.

The guy who claims the 90w=1k HID is just a plain fing lie.
a good spectrum 90w LED grow light is equivalent to a 240-300w HID light this has been proven and to say 90w of LED is 1k HID is just blasphemy

Proof that LEDs can compete with HID ^^^^
Tho HID lighting does seem to cover more area but because of the heat you not only have a huge electric bill but you cant get the light closer + you have to use reflectors so you lose some more light right there.

Beware the ebay UFO's I'm trying to get a refund on one that I bought about a year ago. one day half the leds stopped working. The guy told me he lost a lot of money on those things thats why they are so cheap now. And believe me I liked the light and got pretty solid results with it, but you just have to watch out for intimation junk LED lights out there

Yea I ordered a quad-band 90w UFO to replace my old lighting which was a 150w HPS combined with a 4800 lumen CFL grow light. If I can keep the temps down enough, I might try to use all 3 lights together. LOL

I am also considering doing a comparison grow between the 2 lighting systems and seeing how they perform.

If my 90w UFO equals or exceeds the performance of my 150w HPS, I'll be quite satisfied.

Right on. Yeah, once this crop is done I'll give a full report on here, but so far I'm very happy with my LED.

WOW, I just got this quad-band 90w UFO thingie and just tried it out. Holy CRAP, it is a LOT brighter than I expected!?!? I could not even look directly at it, and trying to do so for less than a second screwed up my vision for like 5 minutes.

I know that doesn't necessarily mean it will be great for my plants, but WOW it was way brighter than I expected. heh

Mine is a Xen-Lux Quad-band 90w UFO LED. I got it for $150 from e-bay with free shipping (from a 99.8% positive rated seller with a couple thousand+ sales there).

The only drawback: no instructions. I'm not sure how high I should hang it. There is almost no heat at all, it's cool to the touch so I guess I could hang it just an inch or two above my plant (I only grow one at a time) as long as the light spread enough to cover the whole plant.

I still wish it came with at least an instruction card though. =/

Anybody know how high you are supposed to hang lights similar to this? :wall:

It's pretty easy. If you know the specified beam angle, then you can do a few simple calculations to get the area of the base of a cone. Do some more, and you can figure out how wide the circle of light is at varying distances away from the lamp.

Close about 4 to 5 inches and you can almost let the plant the light LOLOL without any burns, had to take a company trip and that how I found out! LOLOL

So where we stand right now, who's selling the best 90w LED UFO? I'm really interested in trying one out but don't want to mess around with 5 different brands to find "the one" that works. Who has had success with their 90w units?

IMHO the LightHouse 90w lights from Gotham Hydro are the best. Based on GrowBoys calculations it puts out the most usable light and in the next issue of GrowBoys they will make a startling recommendation: Flower with put LED (using one 2010 model and one 2009 model). They are testing that combination now to get a "pound per pound" comparison between the two lights. If you get only one light, get the 2010 model for veg and 2009 model for flowering!

okay heres what i know about leds....the regular blue led is actually 9k color temp...the red is 1800. so you really cant veg with nothing but 9k leds and flower with nothing but 1800...you cant mix red and blule that gives you a ultra violet color (alot of manufacturers do this, they know nothing about growing weed) and we all know how rediculous it is to grow with a "black light" .also leds are extremeley 1 spectrum unlike a cfl it gives a vast specturm becuase it uses energy and gas to make light just like the sun,....leds only use energy.....so whats the solution
INCLUDE GREEN LEDS TO GIVE U THE CORRECT SPECTRUM. if u mixed 3 blue leds and 1 green led you would get about a 6500k color which is correct for vegging.....if you mix about 8 reds to 1 green color you get around 2k-4k color temp for flowering...i havent tried to grow with it yet but i will in a month after i can get some clones...i already have the leds and already tested the colors...im pretty sure it will work.
