LED lights scorched!?

Hey! New member here, been lurking a few years but have a safety question for the group!

I have about 5 years experience growing with blurple "reflector" style lights. Had my setup dialed and decided to upgrade to a new mars sp3000 white Led light bar. Was very happy with my first grow with the new light, seemed I got a slight boost in yeild and way nicer looking at plants under white light instead of purple. Perfect light for my 2x4 space.

But as I am wiping down everything I now see brown scorch type Mark's on the white backing.. I have sent an email to mars about it. I'm closing in on a year since I bought them so should still be under warranty. But just curious if anyone else has encountered this? Should I be worried about fire hazard?

Thanks!

I'd like to know myself. One of my quantum boards has a brown patch as well, and I only noticed due to reading your post. This one is out of warranty though.

Mars just got back to me actually.. here is the reply:

Hello,
Thank you for your contact.
This is a chemical reaction between the volatilized plant potion and the waterproof layer on the surface of the lamp. It will not affect the use of the lamp and will not cause any harm.
Sincerely,
Freddy

Still seems suspect to me.. really liked the light but don't like the looks of a possible scorch mark..

what do you suppose "volatilized plant potion" is? Aha

Why I avoid cheap grow equipment. I had 4 mars hydro TSW-2000 and the drivers all got scorching hot. I've since switched to LUXX 645 & Growers Choice 720 LEDs and they don't do any sketch stuff like heat or discoloration.
Keep an eye on it, have you thermal gunned it?

No, haven't checked actual temp yet. Just noticed it after a grow while cleaning my equipment. Currently switching from a 2x4 cabinet which i sold, into a closet with an exhaust through the exterior wall so will be a couple weeks before I can set it up and check actual running temp.

I think they're suggesting that you've sprayed (maybe foliar feeding or pesticide) and that's interacted with the coating with heat? I think it's probably not a legit thing, but have you done foliar spraying in your grow/tent?

No foliar sprays here, just good old water and nutes in soil. I think I'll invest in an automatic fire extinguisher and set all power in the grow to shut off if temp climbs up too high. Going to try the new mars ihub power strip combined with the ac infinity controller I currently use. Should be able to set a power down above certain temp...

Yeah, it would make me nervous at the very least, though with an ACI 69-Pro you'd have a shadow of a chance of shutting down the lights remotely if there was a problem.

Yeah, I'm dumb and bought the 69 Bluetooth, not the pro with wifi.. that's why I might try the mars ihub power strip and run everything off it. Then I have wifi control to shut the whole thing down. It also has a fuse that sends you an alert if it detects a short..

Good call. I also have any of my in-tent wifi thermometer/hygrometers set to alarm and alert me if temps go above 100f. Though (thankfully) I haven't had any concerns with my HLG's.

*also AC-I was somewhat confusing with their branding/marketing on those 69's I ordered one and then cancelled because I didn't realize that there was a BT only version as well. I think the WIFI one is now considered the 69-Pro.

I'd turn it on at 100% and temp check that spot with a thermometer to see if its consistent with its surroundings, that should clear it up pretty quick and it'll also tell you if customer service is fucking you around or not....
