My newest panels will have mostly Cree XPG Outdoor White, and a small boost from Cree XPE 630nm. I could have chosen to put deep red, but I do not believe they are necessary at this point with that much white. For plants that like deep red, they can get their 660nm fix from the whites.
Hey Eraserhead, you're moving away from Helios LEDs to Cree entirely for your new panels?

Now if you arrange the clusters in a 6-7 diode Merkaba (let me know if you want me to post the large UFO size Merkaba), I may have to step up. Thinking 6 WW with one NW/CW in the center

Out of curiosity, why? Last time you posted about them a couple months back regarding buying them directly in bulk that they were where it was at. Something specific cause you to change your mind? You seemed pretty sold on them for your whole line at the time, even made me spend some time with their spec sheets you were so convincing ;-)

Progressive research. I more I research and test white, the more it makes sense to use more white and less other.

Cree is where it's at for white. And their XPE red ain't too shabby either for red.

When we first started as a company, We did not have the buying power to buy Cree in bulk to make it worthwhile to us and our customers.

Now we can afford to buy enough bulk to make it worth while to everyone. And that comes to just pennies more per diode than the Heli's..

I have nothing bad to say about Heliopto, they were good to me both product-wise and customer service-wise, and I will recommend them to any company that cannot or doesn't not want to afford Cree or Philips. Osram and Ledengin are great too.

The thing that was my biggest plus with Heliotpo, they had every color from 385nm to beyond 900nm, and plenty of white to choose from. And if you buy 10k or more diodes, they'll mix your own phosphor mix based on your preference. They'll use whatever chip(s) you want, and encapsulate it for you for almost the same price as getting one of their stock whites. ;-)

I went with the XPG1.

For the Natural/Outdoor White, the XPG2 had a higher green concentration I was not liking. I needed a little higher blue concentration and the 2's weren't doing it unless I went cool white, but then it was too much blue and not enough green/yellow.

I'll be running some tests with only the XTE 2600k-3700k soon as my order arrives. I like the graph for it for flowering.

I'll be running the XPG's between 650-750mA, I want to see how much the Umol'/s increase as the amps increases. I've tested 750mA vs 1050mA, and 750mA was a tad more efficient. I'm gonna check to see if lowering it some more is worth it or not. In a lot of cases, adding more amps will add extra watts, but not enough extra output to correlate with the extra watts.

The XPE reds will be between 550-650mA, also checking Umol'/s as the amps increases.

Those XTE's do look sexy, I'm excited for my order to arrive.

At the moment, the XPG2 and XTE cost 1.5x that of the XPG1. I expect the price to level out this year sometime.

XML is like 3.5x....

I get that same message too, I tried to hit SDS up with some more cool points a few times, but I have not given enough out to others yet...

Are You guys testing with a spectraradiometer?
So the xpg isn't behaving very nicely around 900/1000ma? Given the ambient temperature concerning growing eh!

We actually just bought a new spectroradiometer, we'll be putting up some really cool videos in the next couple of months showing it and our lights in action (and some of our competitors lights too :cool: ), plus an HPS and CMH for comparison.

The XPGs are okay at 1a, they can handle up to 1.5a, but they are more efficient when ran lower, 350mA brings the best efficiency out of them.

If they were to omit all their blue LEDs for whites, they'd have to redo their entire spectrum because they'd be too short on the blue spectrum.

I try to aim for 10-15% total blue in flowering.

If PP went from:


  • 23 Red 630 Nm 3 watt leds The New Cree XP-E!!!
  • 23 Hyper Red 660 Nm 3 watt leds
  • 7 Cree XR-E Warm White 3 Watt leds
  • 10 Royal Blue 430Nm - 450 Nm 3 watt leds

To:


  • 23 Red 630 Nm 3 watt leds The New Cree XP-E!!!
  • 23 Hyper Red 660 Nm 3 watt leds
  • 7 Cree XR-E Warm White 3 Watt leds
  • 10 Cool White 3 watt leds

They'd be less than 5% blue.

They look like decent lights nevertheless....
I didn't realize the blue light content was that low in CW diodes.... good to know!

Nice info................which CMH manufacturer ??? makes a big difference

I've been interested in CMH since checking out some of the spectral graphs... they look impressive.

So the 5W CREE's are going to to be run @ 350mA?

I like the graphs for CMH also, but on the face of, it does seem to have too much blue, but it's just a speculation until I can break it down.

Any recommendations? I can test more than 1. The sky is the limit my friend.
I'm not expecting philips elite agro 315w due to the cost involved..........I think the allstart energy advantage http://1000bulbs.com/product/59300/MHS-232595.html will do and has a great spectral distribution/ best price I can find on it....get the clear obviously. Will be interesting to see someone other than philips give us the "specs" on this bulb.
