I was hoping to get a few laughs off that lol. I'm surprised at that design coming from solis tek though...
I'm not. Their hid bulbs have very poor par. 500 umole/s less than hortilux. They lie about spectrum and cri... Their ballasts are notorious for melting

Damnnn i thought they were supposed to be the bees knees. A lot of people hate on quantums but mine still work after 3 years no prob. Also have a genesis ballast that i find worked even better

the 602 does I think...

so they say..50,000 hours and a 1 year warranty...for 1600 EUROs....

my pockets arent that deep...

check out their page.. heliospectra
should have contacted them from their US based company
http://radiantledgrowthsystems.com/ maybe the pricing will be cheaper here directly???

They use the best components available on the market, but their pricing has always been outrageous........research level shit brahhhhh:)

I will say that my solitek ballast rocked(the dimmable...not lcd w/remote). That thing ran so cool. AT uses a phantom for their testing and he felt mine and was blown away. I tip my cap to that ballast.

And the growers house test showed that one to have the best output.

Nothing to say about their bulbs. Hortilux or double ended are my choices....HPS wise. But that is over now.

Bayer is looking to change the game a bit by showing manufacturers how to use their Makrolon polycarb as a heatsink to cut down on manufacturing costs, especially in the assembly department. What's cool is you're talking about an entire, (waterproof?), case acting as a heatsink, even lenses made from this stuff could be used for cooling. Very cool ;).

Thermally Conductive Plastics from Bayer MaterialScience Can Make Cost-effective LED Heat Sinks

June 5, 2014...One of the significant barriers for the mass adoption of LED lighting is its higher cost than the incumbent technology. Bayer points out that conventional materials used for LED packaging can require complicated and costly assembly. Therefore, LED manufacturers are seeking better material solutions to help streamline LED assembly. Bayer MaterialScience LLC showcased its thermally conductive Makrolon® TC8030 polycarbonate to replace aluminum in heat sinks during ITherm on May 28th. Bayer contends that its Makrolon polycarbonate heat sinks can reduce assembly steps and cost per unit in applications, such as parabolic aluminized reflector lamp (PAR) or multi-faceted reflector (MR) configurations.

As part of the LED Packaging session, senior scientist Nicolas Sunderland; principal engineer Jim Lorenzo; and principal engineer Terry G. Davis, all of Bayer MaterialScience LLC, presented a paper about using polycarbonate heat sinks for efficient thermal management. Dr. Sunderland detailed tests and simulations he conducted to compare the thermal properties of polycarbonate replacement materials to aluminum in LED heat sinks. Sunderland concluded that the thermally conductive Makrolon® TC8030 polycarbonate can successfully replace aluminum as a heat sink material. Furthermore, Sunderland found that Makrolon can reduce assembly cost and create features and shapes that are not possible with aluminum.

More Makrolon info for you complicated peeps :).

It's nowhere near as effective as aluminum. They are proposing it for only low power lights, not the kind that growers are using.

the quantums I had ran 4 years then was stolen. Never had one issue. Imo those are the best ballasts.. They won all kinds of awards for those ballasts. Quality may have dropped since last year. Since hydrofarm acquired quantum from discount hydro / r&m supply. Dh hates hydrofarm with a passion.

I have a buddy that returned 10 1000w solis tek ballast after a week of running them. 8 of the melted. He went with lumatek after that.

Really????....................why are they still on the market then?? "melting" ballasts is not good for business:eyesmoke:

It puts out very good #'s for a mogul based system http://growershouse.com/blog/1000w-digital-ballast-comparison-review-par-test-footprint-results-lumatek-solis-tek-quantum-phantom-galaxy-nano/ we've all seen this study by now:)

personally think that horti's platinum ballast should be the one to watch this year for the digis...............also HF's phantom ballast has always been tops for me, now with ver. 2 coming out......hmmm......kidding, ... never going back to hps

that 375w cmh kit has me interested though

lumatek had the same issue for years . Then finally fixed it. Solis tek is a shady company

You're probably going to have to replace it soon. It should be near the end of its lifetime by now. Will you go for more power or stay about the same?

You're funny. You should stick around...maybe read some other threads in the led section. A lot to be learned in here.

They are rated for 50000hrs...that is 11.4 years of 12/12. The whole 5 year thing is a warranty...lighting companies don't warranty their product for the time that it's not being used(off).
Also that ratnig is an LM-80...meaning how long it takes to get loose 20% output...which sucks, but it doesn't just shut off.
But they key to led's is that if you can keep them at better than recommended temps...they will last even longer and degrade at an extremely slow rate.

I'll admit I have no personal experience with LEDs. I probably should have done the math before I posted. Regardless, LEDs have advanced considerably in the last five years. Surely you must be tempted to upgrade? Also, not all LEDs are created equal. Some fail the first time you turn them on or within a few days.
