Leaves growing yellow spots overnight. Leaf Septoria or Nutrient deficiency?

Hey guys,

Trying to identify my issue. I just fed plants nutrients one day ago. 2 mg Calmag, 2mg Micro, 2mg Gro, 1mg Bloom.Using TS1000 grow light. Using fox farm Ocean forest soil. 7 gallon pots. 18/6 light cycle 50-55 RH, temps sit around 80-85 F. PH of soil was sitting around 8 so I added 2.5 PH water to reduce soil PH, was sitting around 7-7.5 as of yesterday. Leaves were decent going to bed minus one yellow leaf and woke up to quite a few of these brown spots, a bit brittle as well. Only happening on one plant at the moment. Both are auto flower in week 5. I just added some more low PH water this morning to help reduce soil PH a bit more. Any suggestions? First 2 pictures are this morning. Second 2 are the leaves appearing with yellow spots. Last 2 were the night before.

I've never seen leaf septoria and I've been growing all kinds of plants a long time.
It's pretty rare. Especially inside.
Plants look pretty good. I wouldn't worry about it.
Keep doing what you're doing.

Do you water with 20% runoff? Looks to me like you're only watering in the center of the pot with small volumes of water/nutrient solution? It's very important to water to runoff to combat dry pockets and salt buildup.

I personally don't like fabric pots, but I've probably only used the bad kinds. I find it harder to completely cover the top soil with water using them. I'm so used to leave half an inch with without soil in plastic pots so it's easier to water without overspill.
 
I started watering at the center but have since just moved to watering using the pan and letting it absorb through the bottom. When I was going through the top I didn’t really have any runoff make it through to the bottom. My most recent watering was more and the plants have since perked up. Right now I’m waiting for the last watering to be absorbed before making another solution with some calmag to address the spots.
My biggest issue at the moment since addressing what the spots were from is getting my soil PH down. Can’t do much until this most recent watering is absorbed though without overwatering.

Stop watering from the bottom. You're not running SIP and no till. You need to "circulate" the medium at every watering to keep it homogenous at all times.

Would it not be advantageous to do both then? I have a friend who does this and has great grows using the bottom watering method.

Nope. The saucers will build up salts and if you don't clean them before every watering you have no way of knowing what you're actually feeding the plant by watering from the bottom with mineral based nutrients.

Salts crystalize, some do it more than others. Do you understand the problem I'm trying to explain? You will only cause salt buildups and lockouts by not circulating the medium. Bottom waterings is for organics, seedlings in starting mix, SIP's and "no till" IMO.

Stop worrying about the pH in soil. FFOF has buffers in it to balance the pH. You're screwing up the soil using 2.5 pH to try and balance out what isn't even a problem to begin with.

2.5 pH is almost vinegar. If you're setting your plants in that they will not like it. Just water the damn plants. Ph what you water if you want but don't bother trying to adjust pH to match what you think it should be. The plant and soil take care of that at the root zone. And that soil pH meter is garbage and very inaccurate. Throw it away.

So the leaves were fine and then you fiddled around trying to adjust the pH and the next day your plants were showing problems. So you did it again even after the results you already had? That doesn't make any sense. The pH was fine and the problem is from you trying to fix what wasn't broken with 2.5 pH water.

So the leaves were fine and then you fiddled around trying to adjust the pH and the next day your plants were showing problems. So you did it again even after the results you already had? The issue appeared prior to me ever watering them. After watering the spots appeared a bit stronger. I didn’t realize the soil had a built in protection. Still learning.

I wrapped my cloth pot in poly, left 3 inches top and bottom for airflow. Figured ld get bigger roots this way. Only time my plants look like that from low ph, have you checked for bugs? Id like to know what it is too.
 
I haven’t heard of that suggestion before. Have to look into that! No bugs on either plant. My local Hydroponics center helped identify the issue. We believe it ended up being a small lockout. Reading through some of the advice here I may have accelerated the issue a bit but will correct my actions based on advice from others here.
 
Silverpker - The few brown spots I can see on your plants is nothing for concern.
Trying to fix a non concern will frequently cause real problems.
Looks like you're picking ups some good tips here.
Here's another one from a guy who uses only fabric pots in soil:
When you water, saturate the motherfucker all the way. You want to get the entire medium wet.
The let it dry thoroughly. Not just the top.
You'll have no hydrophobic issues and your plants will grow better roots and therefore better buds.

If buy an expensive planting bed, cant remember maker, they have plastic strip insde pot all the way around, kind of same, the bluemat planters. Am happy with results so far. Pot in my profile pic. I water and feed everyday and no runoff to speak of. 1 to 2 gal a day in 15g pot. Most dripping comes from top of pot. I spoon feed 1 litre at a time, watching very close. Still trying to figure out your plants, lockout is all l can come up with. Even bottomfeeding. Id just do nothing and watch them, ldk!

Your regiment sounds all over the place however plants look pretty good. Those cheap soil meters are garbage… worthless. FFof is prebuffered as stated around 6.3 already - plus you are running 7 gallons worth … that alone could feed them .. for quite awhile depending on strain.

Are you ph your feed mix ? Before adding ?
sounds like you are trying to adjust at soil level and that may bite you in the ass. Less is more sometimes. FFOF is pretty nute dense upfront .

That’s what we concluded as well which drove me to think it was the the soil PH as it was starting prior to me doing anything with the water PH. I probably accelerated it though.

My regiment for feeding was off the recommendations from the General Hydroponics feeds. Noted on the PH meter, getting a newer, better one on order today. I did PH my mix going in and it was was 6.5 when I fed them. I’ll be more careful about water PH though going in. Didn’t realize how nutrient rich the soil already was. Nor did I realize adding such a low PH would be that terrible. Thank you for the tips/suggestions. Definitely going to have an even better second grow after this one.
