Any person that cannot make choices about their OWN body is in a kind of slavery.

Slavery could be said to have two main components. First being made to do what another forces on you. Second being PREVENTED from doing what you would like to do with your own body etc.

You both trivialize the US role in slavery. So yea, you can deny you have a racial bias all you want but it's obvious you do.

i aint saying canada isnt great, but we've done our fair share of mass genocide and slavery against the aboriginal peoples here, including but not limited to Residential schools...and the last one was closed down fairly recently in the 1990's ....

its pretty fucking sad, canada swept it under the rug for many many years...and acted like it was nothing but those children suffer hardcore inter-generational trauma from that our aboriginal peoples are in ruins over loosing their cultures, and way of life

If you didn't participate in the genocide personally, you aren't in the murderous "we". It was done by people that you don't have anything in common with and THEY are responsible, not people that live in Canada now.

I didn't trivialize anything, I refuted londonfogs claim that Americans created chattel slavery or slavery based on race. He was the one trivializing slavery by claiming America created the worst form of slavery while ignoring modern day slavery.

What racial bias do I have? I had no part in the American slave trade and neither did my ancestors.

I put the responsibility in my government who made it legal to steal little aboriginal children from their homes, put them in catholic schools where they were raped, beaten and murdered up until the 1990's and than decided to "sweep" it under the rug like it was no big deal.

perhaps we to you is the wrong choice of words, but i dont think so, we as canadians allowed it to go on, instead of going against it and letting our government know this was wrong. which is what most canadians probably wouldve believed had they knew the horrors of residential schools

if anyones interested theres a good movie called "We were Children" on netflix about it

there was also the Oka Crisis, in the 1990's where the Canadian government decided to cut off the people of Kanehsatake , stopping any food, clean water or any medical help inside their reserve...it is absolutely disgusting to watch that a country who claims to be so good..can pretty much go in gorrilla warfare style and do this to people in its own country

Canada has some seriously dark history that most of the general public is not aware of...and it isnt very old either

For sure. Not trying to sugar coat it, but when you compare how Canadian aborigionals are/were treated to the way they're treated in America it's night and day. If you have even 25% native blood in Candad, you get to go to a University of your choosing all paid for by the feds. Aborigionals pay no PST or GST in Canada either.

I've lived in both countries roughly half my life, and have native friends in both countries. Canada's treaty is much more generous than Americas.

closer to home than you think i refuse to buy chocolate anymore because almost all major chocolate companies buy chocolate off the ivory coast where they steal children /kidnap them and put them to work on coco farms with machetes ...
its pretty disgusting..

i also have a good documentary for that as well..
did a huge report on this in college pretty sad stuff
 
When it comes to $$, most people / governments will do anything to get it.

Rest assured, there would still be slavery in North America today had arms not been raised 100 years ago.

This thread is a great example that the potential and energy is still there to enslave people in 2015

It was always evil and wicked and yet we embraced it like a motherfucker. Many would still embrace it if they could. Took a war from within to change history. That's no small slavery inclination. That's a major fanatical initiative that took a war to stop.

Why are people trivializing this slavery effort? The US slavery wasn't unique enough or bad as some or what?

We brutally enslaved humans and now, "well, there were worse offenders, so I'm OK with flying the Confederate flag... it's just history..."

Hm...theres abit of a hitch to that education thing depending on college/course study and your Band Council agreements, you must maintain a 3.5-4.0 GPA and have an attendance of 90% for the full school year, if you fail either of those requirements you must pay for your tuition in full

which not saying that isnt a good deal, but if you have children it can be a bit rough

there no PST or GST is a bit of a hitch too because Canada has made it so alot of natives cannot receive that, especially if youre a woman who married a white man , you loose all rights to your native "benefits" and so do your children

For my first two years of last study I did Social Worker Native Specialization, I was like the only white girl in class but I learned ALOT from the girls in my class who were pretty much fully 100% native, as well as from my courses we had very specific courses on native laws like this ..
i was really shocked to find out what i did

Native people also get free brith control pills here, which regular citizens dont. and im sure they get treated better in canada than in USA, maybe i can rally to make a change on that or something educate people on the issues of intergenerational trauma and how it is

ya me too./but hes actually really open minded, hes got no problem with races, or lgbtq community, hes never rude to people all around just a really nice guy
hes not into politics much, he says most of the guys in his work field actually arent very politically involved because than its like talking about work outside of work i think he may groan sometimes when i speak politics lol
