Just passed a home inspection!

I rent my home and I grow in the spare room. The park's regional manager and the maintenance guy just did a home inspection. I got a letter on my door informing me of this when I came home from work last night. They looked in the room and asked what's that? I said it's my grow tent and she asked if I had my card and I showed her my cards. She was fine with it and wanted to make a copy of the cards but I was like idk if I'm cool with that. She said she would just make a note. They totally seemed fine with it. They did one prior inspection about 2 months ago in the year and a half I've lived here. That time they didn't even look in that room cuz it's locked and I wasn't around to open it. I was pretty nervous about it last night. Almost made a post but didn't want to get more anxious by peoples reactions.

Yeah.....plus, its medical. That bitch has no right to a copy of your card. It should be covered under HIPPA if its not already. You have a right to your medical privacy.

Whats that ? I would have replied thats a cover for my Burmese Pythons . They eat Rabbits and weight close to 200 pounds , trouble is my Rabbit Breeder has had no extras lately .. Care to open and take a look ??

I kept many landlords at bay with this line but I did breed Pythons and had a large collection and most were in racks and totes but still when I mentioned giant Burmese Pythons nobody wanted anything more to do with the tent or closet lol

As well a grow tent can be arranged to look like a portable closet as well with some quick work and hangers .. You have to take the plants and cardboard them up in boxes for a bit , and take the lights and other equip out ..

Point here is that a small grow is easy to hide and it should be kept private as well as the card unless the police show up and have a warrant . Allowing anyone you can not trust with your life or a inspector as such to view your grow is ignorant and should be avoided at all costs ...........

i just had to deal with this too, except i wasnt home when the inspection was being done. I ended up putting a note on the door saying my dog was in there and that she bites strangers, and locked the door. All was good and they didnt go in there.

I was going to tell them my roommate lived in there and they were out of town. I thought about saying it's a portable closet. The python idea rules tho. I'm just too damn honest. I'm not doing anything wrong or illegal so why should I have to hide it. My grow is pretty stealth tho. I have many friends come over that have no idea that I'm growing. I still get paranoid about it. Must be a conditioned response to being labeled a criminal for ingesting a natural plant.

It's good you were honest.
If your 'roommate' was not on your lease you could be in violation of your lease.
Most rental properties need the names and ss numbers of all who live there.

Well, glad you have a cool landlord because I think they can evict you for it if they want. Too bad everyone isn't cool like that.

I am not in Michigan so don't know the exact wording of your laws there but I am pretty sure they cannot evict you for a legal grow. That is discrimination and would not fly. I would check the actual bill and I would bet that it is written into it.

its not in the law here but like my lease states no illegal activity im not doing anything illegal so i think his lease would say some thing like mine

A hangup for some people renting is that a lot of larger corporate owned rentals include a clause that says no violation of state or federal law in your rental unit and growing is currently a federally illegal activity, card or no card. With that, you can potentially be evicted from your rental. Even though State courts are not obliged to uphold federal law...things could definitely become hairy and uncomfortable but you may potentially prevail in the end should you be taken to State court to fight an eviction notice. This is a subject I'll definitely have to do more research on...

Hmm You rent and they can do an inspection? Did they give you 48 hrs Notice as notated by Law? What was the inspection for?

Personally, My business not theirs. Even in a Rental unit, when you sign the lease, you are stating that is your domicile, your home. In one's home, one has Unalienable Rights as a Renter, and One of them is Undue or Unjust invasion of privacy. The Only reason they can enter without a 48 hr notice is for Emergency Situation Only. Even if they knock on your door one day without notice, you can deny them entry for the 48 hrs. That is Simply the Law for a Renter.

Unless your lease states they can do an inspection for any reason at any time, they have no right to do one, WITHOUT 48hrs notice minimum.

Unfortunately, this IS happening. The quirk in all state laws is cannabis is federally illegal. IF the complex/park gets Any form of federal Government payments, including SSI or Welfare from Tenants, they the entire park is under federal guidelines, and sorry to tell you all, cannabis is illegal on all counts federally, with the current 4 exceptions like Irv Rosenthal...

There have been a few cases of eviction here in Michigan.

Its more than likely illegal to make a copy of your card, I know in colorado it is.

I had an apartment inspection that was supposed to happen recently; as my lease renewal is coming up soon I didn't want to test my luck. I spent 12 hours tearing everything down and artfully hiding everything in my 400 sq ft place so that nothing could be seen or smelled. Then, they didn't show up, and I don't know when it's rescheduled for, and my plant is big enough to flower... what a pain.
