Yup, I can no longer fool myself. Tia is a hermie. I only found male flowers on two of her branches though so I just chopped both branches completely off. Now I need to stay vigilent and look out for new bananas. No problems with Marsha though. She's all woman as far as I can tell.
yeah, that does suck

I'm not surprised though. I wasn't exactly careful with them for the beginning of their lives. They weren't in a sealed box so they never had a perfect dark period and the extreme heat probably stressed the hell out of them. For all they have been through I'm surprised it's not worse. Maybe I'll get lucky and it was only those two branches that were hermie. I've heard of it being isolated before. Marsha and Ashley appear to be perfectly normal too so I should end up with a lot of decent smoke. Got to stay positive and just get over these speed bumps.

I chopped both of the branches completely off in the hopes that those are the only ones affected. If more pop up on others I'm gonna scrap her.

Heat is a little better. After being on all day it was 91, but when I opened the box they were all droopy from dehydration. When I picked them up though they were still heavy from water on the bottom of their pots. So I went ahead and watered them and they bounced back within 30 minutes. I had forgotten to reposition the fan pointed at the exterior of the box this morning so I put it back in place afterwards and the temp held steady at 85.9-86.4 for the remaining 3 hours of light. I didn't notice any new bananas on Tia but I didn't look too hard. Marsha bounced back a little quicker that Tia did after watering. I am noticing more pistils on them too, especially Marsha. It's a slow start for them though. Almost three weeks of flowering now.

I put the giant CFL in the other box with a 42w cool light and 3 26w daylights. The temp was 85, 86, and 88 depending on which thermometer you were reading. The new growth on Ashley looks very healthy but some of the older growth was yellowing so I sprinkled some of the high nitrogen bat guano on the soil and watered. I first sprinkled some of the guano dust and then did a scoop of the granules (all out of the same bag) for a time release effect. Hopefully I'll notice an improvement tomorrow, or are the leaves done for once they turn yellow?

you know jebus, you sure have a lot of fans in the bottom. you know when you seal the box up they may be doing as much to heat the box as they do to cool it? i am not saying this about all of them, but a few of us did some trials a while back where we removed the "circulation" fans from within our cabinets, and the temps dropped on most the cabs. just some tips. they look good.

I'll turn off the fan and give it a shot when the lights come on. In my round box I point them at the lights and it definitely helps to keep the box cool. I figured if I never let the lights get too hot by having fans blowing on them it would keep it cooler, but if they are heating up anyways then I may just be mixing hot air throughout the box.

Yep! Plus if you have adequate exhaust pulling through it should provide the cooling effect your attempting to create by itself.

Haha, I had unplugged the fans in the round box as a test since the lights were on. The temps went from 84, 81, and 83 to 82, 82, 82. Overall it is a reduction so maybe I should keep them off. It might have been creating hot pockets. I had read so many times to have a fan pointed at your lights to cool it. Now I am wondering why I ever listened. It makes sense though. The hot air rises and gets sucked right out the top. With the fans on the hot air does get mixed back in and raises the ambient temp. This will also free up some room for the pots. It gets so cramped in there.

Well the other cabinet dropped to 79 and the round one came up to 84 and change. So I took the 60w out of the round one and put it in the rectangular one. Rectangle box has three 40w, the 60w, and a 26w daylight. Basically just added the 60w to it and moved around some of the bulbs. It may end up getting too hot from the extra one though. I replaced the empty socket in the round one with a 26w cool light bulb. I'm hoping they both end up right around 80 once they balance out. The rectangular one is at 79.3 right now. The sensor is attached at the highest point of the bottom box. Right about where the canopy is.

Now do u have the sensors where the light is hitting them and being taken into temp readings? If my sensor faces the light it will raise up to 5 degrees warmer. If I just turn it around but leave it in the same place my temps are much cooler. I take readings like this because I figure the breeze the ventilation provides makes actual temps similar to this. My thermometers are digital. I will take a pic to show you later if you'd like.

The sensor is on the back of the unit so it is up against the wall. Then the outside sensor is on a wire that I lead to the other side of the box and it is in a small black enclosure. Bother are reading exactly 83.3 right now and the cheap plastic thermometer is reading around 84. Light is hitting the units though just not directly on the sensors. In the new box the sensore is a small box I taped to the wall and again the sensor opening is on the back. I also have a cheap plastic one in there reading a degree cooler than the remote box I just mentioned. The remote sensor is reading 81.5 and hanging. The house temp is 70-72 depending on where I have a thermometer except in the grow room where it is about 75.

I guess all I had to do was stop using the fans inside and I would have had far fewer problems the past few weeks.

That all sounds great jebus!! Now, as you continue to monitor your new temps, you may be able to add or reduce passive intakes to lower even further, but I think 8-10 over is not to bad.

Oh, if you have a ceiling fan in the room with your grow boxes and its running, it can raise temps in the box too. As much as a few degrees. Its funny all the variables!!

I have two good tower fans I moved into the room and they help with the temps. One is pointed at the new box and I have found it works better it I put it at the corner. It covers more surface area of the box and blows cool air at one intake. If I have it just pointing at one long side the temps is about 1 degree higher. They are both oscillating fans. Then I have a circular wirlwind fan pointing at the round box, specifically at the air filter because it gets really hot.
