So let me start out by saying I don't know what strain of cannabis I'm growing, but I do know based on the leaves that it's a sativa blend of some sort. I found the seed in a bud I bought.

The plant is about 5 weeks old and I'm going it in a 3 gal pot outside (I bring it inside at night because it gets down to 40 here in Idaho around this time of year) in some soil I had left from my garden. The PH is about 7 - 8 (a little alkaline I know). I water about once every 3 days or when I notice that the top inch or so is dry.

I guess that so far I've been lucky because he/she has been growing nicely for a while now, but tonight I started to notice that the top leaves are drooping and the lowest leaves have begun to change to a yellowish color. I am pretty poor so buying any testing equipment isn't possible. I am hoping that my pictures will help you tell me if there is something wrong with my plant.

From what I've read, I have a feeling it may be nitrogen or calcium deficiency but I'm not sure. As far as I know, it could just be the natural growth of this plant. This is my first grow and I'm not even sure if it's a female yet (I just change to 12/12 light 2 days ago). Any help would be great.

Thanks

the drooping could be from over watering..
have you started to feed it any nutrients as of yet? it's about the age that it will more than likely need some form of outside nutrients that aren't being provided by the soil..

The soil is dry on top, so I don't feel like it's being overwatered. I have not added any NPK to the soil because I was hoping that the soil would contain plenty. I used to run a lawn care business so I do have some spring and summer lawn fert that may work (spring fert is 18-0-6 NPK and the summer fert is 24-0-9 NPK). I'm not sure if those will work. As I understand it, I should keep the nitrogen low durring the flowering stage, right? I did just change from a 1gal pot to a 3gal.

I would prod around in the soil a bit and see just how "wet" it is.

Sometimes people do underwater.

For sure check the bottom holes to make sure they drain and do not let water sit at the bottom.

How much air circulation is there?

I poked around about 6" deep. The soil is moist-ish. Its darker than the first 2" of surface soil but not wet.

An unrelated question, will having a single 60w equivalent LED bulb near my plant have any effect. I'm assuming that it doesn't have enough power to create anything more than white light. Will it disrupt the light cycle I'm trying to keep?

It may be the soil is damp and not wet. If it dries out too much it will kill roots eventually.

When mine are over watered and get droopy looking and prob the entire soil surface 4-5 down 1-2 inches apart like worms dug through it then rough up the top 1 inch layer a bit. I also prob the bottom holes to help with air flow.

As far as a low watt led bulb you would have to put it a 3-5 inches away to have an effect and it will disrupt a light cycle if flowering. The bulbs area of effective coverage would be smallish as well as the penetration of the light, But it would work some just not like a grow set up or the sunlight. That big of a plant you might need a few of them.

I would make sure I have good air flowing through the plant and across the soil with a fan of some kind.

Hey, I just wanted to post an update today. I went ahead and watered today because the soil was very dry. The bottom 2 leaves are still yellowish but it doesn't seem to be spreading. The plant has perked up and is reaching out nicely.

I have attached a couple of pictures, any ideas as to what is causing the yellowing, or if I should even be concerned with it that far down.

you let her get way too dry. She may need some food.
