today i ran into another fellow martial artist who seemed cool, talks too damn much for a man but cool none the less. when i brought up kung fu movies, he tells me he doesn't watch those anymore since there fictional WEAK movements. i won't go into the details of our little exhibition over the dispute that had started, but just to put it short and to the point he states that a mixed martial artist is the best kind of fighter in the world. for those that train hard in whatever discipline you take up (even mma out there) whats your take on this?

I thought any kind of fighting could be thrown under the label "mixed martial arts", because, ya know, it's mixed.

Your friend knows Dana White called Bruce the grandfather of MMA right? Jeet Kune Do is the forerunner. "Strip what is useless."

Shaolin Vs Lama is a great Kung Fu flick, as is Shaolin Vs Ninja. MAster Killer, Kung Fu Hustle is fucking awesome! 5 fingers of death, Fists of Legend is my favorite Jet Li movie.

Just because some things are frivolous or flowery doesn't mean they are useless. There are tons of people that take traditional martial arts and gain ALOT out of it. Self confidence, discipline, healthier living, maybe they strip it all away and when your buddy has a broken body he ends up taking up tai chi and learning from one of these people. There is a place for it all. Not everyone wants to get down on a mat with a sweaty opponent and have crotch in their face while they get submitted BJJ style, some just want to better themselves personally.

Each and Every fighting style has its strengths and weaknesses, some are best for defence, some are best used at multiple opponents, some are just offensive ect ect... But each style has another style that can defeat it, Just like rock paper scissors, there is no best. although you could consider some styles better at others for certain 1v1 fights.

exactly, man. to me a fighting style is no different from a weapon: beware the gunman not the gun.

I'm not a martial artist but I've been a fan for a long time and to me it seems lately that MMA is focusing more on the boxing skills of the fighters, looking for the "knockout". I've seen many fights go rounds with nothing but a jabs and hooks.

As long as it's a strictly stand-up fight, Kung-Fu is just as legit as Boxing, Muay Thai, Karate, etc.... Of course some of the things you see in the movies won't work in real life, or at the very least, won't be nearly as effective, but 1) that can be said of any fighting style, and 2) what do you expect from a movie? Now, MMA can have an advantage in a non-strictly stand-up fight, but that's only because they train to fight on the ground as well. As someone who trains BJJ, I can definitely say that if you don't train on the ground, if/when a fight gets taken there, you will have no idea what's going on. Sure you could land some blows, and you may even win, but you would stand a 100% better chance of having that happen if you train on the ground.

Long story short, no MMA is not unbeatable.

Hand to hand, MMA is very versatile depending on the arts you are trained in. Overall, it won't beat a bullet so it isn't unbeatable.

MMA isn't a style on its own, and yes every fight someone loses.

MMA fighters and their styles are beatable.

All Martial Arts have their place.
But I think Kajukenbo is one of the best for actual real life self-defense.

(I currently take Aikido.. And haven't been taking it long enough to have an opinion on its effectiveness)

Royce Gracie opened some eyes in the early days of MMA, big ass dudes just lying there and everyone wondering when they are going to do something and then the big guy just gives up.

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, the question is what mix is best.

The only thing that matters in Krav Maga is winning/living.

What ever Jon Jones is doing is what you want to be doing. Oh and you have to be extremely athletic like his entire family.

I'm confused by the question. MMA incorporates every form of fighting, so to say kung fu could beat MMA makes no sense, since kung fu is a part of MMA by definition. MMA is superior to any one school of fighting simply because it encompasses them all.

no mma is not unbetable. mma especially ufc is very controlling of the rules. it's nothing like a real fight. you cant hit in the neck, back of the head, knee or kick a grounded opponent. it's not even real fighting really. sure these guys are tough and can fight but i would love to see them in an actually street fight against someone with skill. in fact this one brazilian ufc fighter just seriously injured, almost killed in a real fight recently. another guy sean ohaire former pro wrestler and mma fighter got seriously injured in a bar fight. i think a lot of these so called professionals would be scared to get in a real dangerous fight where your life could be in danger or face serious permanent injury. it's just too much to lose.

i almost guarantee burce lee in his prime could take on almost any mma fighter fairly easy in a real fight. they actually had to slow the camera down cause he was so fast in his movies. i think combat sambo is the best martial art personally. look at a prime fedor emelianenko. greatest mixed martial artists of all times. even the pros now a days like the ufc HW champs cain valesquez say hes the greatest of all times. fedor's career hit a downfall at the end, but in his prime, no one could touch him. anytime he got in trouble he always found a way to get out.

i like watching ufc especially the older guys from pride fighting. but it just aint the same as mma back in the day. yeah the fighters are more skilled but it's drifted too far from a real fight. pride fc was so much better just because of the rules and entertainment. ufc is just a bunch of corrupt capitalist bullshit. not to mention FUCK AMERICAN ATHLETIC COMMISSIONS!
