You cannot tell the difference between a male and female seed.

This is why we sex plants.

it goes through a process where the plant only produces female seeds, so the dont have to check. i read this article on sexing seeds and it said the rounder seeds with a volcano like indent where the seed connected to the plant means female. A odd shaped seed like a football or oval and no indent is mostly a male. I wish i could find the original article with the pictures but no luck.

no you can't tell. femenized seeds are a genetic thing they do with heat at a certain time to make them that way. some do fail and grow up males. not many though

I'm not 100% on this but I believe when a plant goes hermi and self pollinates it makes seeds that are all female. They make strains do this by brushing (again not 100%) silver or something like it to cause it to hermi and make feminized seeds. This forum has alot of conflicting info but just read and read then use common sense to look through the BS. I read the above info in the growers bible by Jorge Cervantes a great book if you are into the botany of MJ or in my case all plants in general.

Silver nitrate is the chemical they use and guess I was wrong bout the hermi but it does cause the female plant to make seeds soo I guess I was right :weed: ha love the wake and bake forum discussion :-P

The best way to produce your own 100% fem. seeds is to let a flowering plant go a few weweks past normal harvest and a few male banana's will form on the Top of the Cola and should shed some pollen and produce you some 100% female seeds... It works...

they don't use "heat" to produce female seeds and they don't use "hermies" to make female seeds.

female seeds are produced from 100% female plants. The plants sometimes produce flowers that are similar to male flowers and produce a pollen capable of pollinizing. Sometimes they do this with age. There are also certain ways you can "stress" the plant to produce them. This way you have only female genetics pollinating other females. There are no male genes present so you get only female seeds.

hermaphrodites have both male and female genes and produce "real" male and female flowers. Pollen from hermaphrodites will produce both male and female and hermaphroditic seeds.

This is what I read, too. They found that if you stressed out a girl enough it would go herm. Those herms produced seeds with a high rate of females. After a few generations of this, you end up with almost guaranteed female seeds, but plants that are also likely to herm under stress. You can't actually do anything to the seed to make it female.

this is wrong. It does NOT go HERM! there is a big difference between hermaphrodites and females that produce self pollinating pollen sacs..

I guess the confusion is that a female plant that produces pollen sacs is a hermi. If there is a difference please show us cuz I think thats what the confusion is on.People say if you stress a plant it will hermi and I would love to know/see the difference in case I ever want to give it a try.
