This is why people up pot slowly from 1-2-3-5, so they can feed just enough. Personally I go from 1-3-5, the first week I might need only two or three waterings but after that the plant is drinking it all in a day or 2.

IMO, its better to have dry/wet cycles within 24-48 hours...but that's my personal preference. I don't like the water to stagnant to much so if its really cold I just water less. I just don't like the idea of having wet soil for too long, it seems to stifle growth in my garden.

o yea i cut small stems off very small and trimmed the leafs some on the 1 that was 4 sure bone dry , the other plant was good till after watering, so i say that mat be the prob I dont trim my out door plants at all so i dint know if there would be any reaction to trimming....

What size container are they in and how much water are u giving them when you do water?

I like to water less but more often. Now that becomes more work BUT it helps keep humidity levels down which also helps risk factors for mold and other disease and also removes the risk of overwatering. Overwatering is a none issue for me because after all these years I just kno but it takes time to get there.

Thats WAYYYY to much water. I water a half gallon every 5 to 6 days on the 5 gal containers. Sometimes a little more but not by much. And I never like to see runoff out the bottom....I never have problems with salt build up. I water and feed in moderation. More is def not better. I used to water a little heavier but i found that if i took them a little further between waterings with a little less water...the plants appreciated everything allot more and in fact my yeilds are much better.

Thats my basic rule of thumb for me BUT keep in mind that if you are growing different strains. The plants needs are going to vary and that is going to require you observing them and paying attention to what they are doing. My advice to new growers is to try to grow the same strains at one time until you have a better handel on simple things as observing what your plants are doing and trying not to over analyze everything...honestly, thats why allot of growers fuck up thier grows. They try fixing every little thing they think is going on and in most cases its not necessary. KIS KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I grow multiple starins of Sativa, Indica and sativa/indica hybreed crosses and believe me...none of them respond the same or like the same things...i cant feed some of my sativas the same way i feed my indicas. Do you have a good grow book? If not GET ONE...it will come in handy for so many things when starting off.

Yes...a half gallon is good to start with....as they grow and bulk up your plants will tell you if they are thirsty and you can increase at that point...but again, in moderation. Its also a good practice to keeping a journal of your grows when your starting off. If you have notes of what you were doing and seeing every week it will serve as a great reference to look at on future grows. Eventually you will know enough about the plant that you wont need any books, notes etc. If you study!

What I generally do is water at 1/5 of the container size. That's usually enough to hydrate the pot completely. I tend to water pretty slowly.
In a 5 gallon pot I'll have 1 - 1.25 gallons of water or food per plant.
Then hit them with 1/3 or 1/2 of the liquid. The reasoning behind this is the dryer the pot the faster the water shoots to the bottom. So I'll hit them with 1/3 or 1/2 to get the medium moist. Wait 15 - 20 minutes or so for it to settle nicely. Then hit it with the rest.
I let mine go pretty dry before I water them again. Use a moisture reader to probe around the soil. If it's at the red zone I hydrate em. Hasn't caused any issues so far.
