Is a Tweet good enough for an apology?

since lee only retweeted this and was not the original messenger, maybe the apology should come from someone else.
No, he tweeted, it should be his apology and the other guy should have to apologize and help pay for the couple's expenses.

Here's another thought about twitter, the rules, they both broke them.
Twitter has seen fit to do nothing about this, even though this is a clear violation of its Terms of Service. The person who originally posted the erroneous information and got Spike Lee to retweet it, @maccapone, is also still on Twitter.
In case you missed it, here is the relevant Twitter rule:

You may not publish or post other people’s private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or Social Security/National Identity numbers, without their express authorization and permission.

Someone should let Twitter know that Spike Lee and Marcus Higgins have been breaking their rules.

perhaps. but some nobody with a twitter account doesn't have access to near as many people with a single click of a mouse, so the damage caused by the nobody would be minimal compared to the damage caused by someone with reach. it's the difference between shouting "fire" in a crowded theater and shouting it in your living room with your windows open. that being said, the original "tweeter" is not without fault. he would be the guy that told someone else to go yell fire in a crowded theater knowing what it could lead to. the idiot who actually did it is the one who's actually responsible.

If you hurt an elderly couple in their 70's by giving out their address as belonging to someone else who is in the media eye and has a bounty on their head and that tweet causes them to have to move out of their home. Is another tweet saying you were sorry enough of an apology?

Spike sent out a tweeter apology and as if these people use Twitter. He did not call them directly to apologize.I do hope he calls them and offers an apology and covers their costs for his huge mistake.

I wonder do you think it would work with your spouse?
A hammer is a lovely tool for breaking a glass, but less than ideal for repairing it. I think Twitter works the same way. Heck, ya can't even tweet a bouquet. cn

Looks like Spike did the right thing.

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — An elderly couple who reported being forced to leave their Florida home when a Twitter posting that Spike Lee helped spread listed their address as that of the man who shot an unarmed teen has settled with the director.

The couple's attorney, Matt Morgan, announced the settlement Thursday. Morgan says Lee called them to apologize fo retweeting their address. Details of the settlement weren't disclosed.

Elaine and David McClain are in their 70s and say they have a son named William George Zimmerman, who lived in their Sanford area home in the mid-1990s. They say he is no relation to 28-year-old George Zimmerman, who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26.

The killing touched off protests around the country because Zimmerman was not arrested. He says he acted in self-defense.

That didn't take long for a settlement, as soon as the old couple get an attorney, Lee is kissing their asses, too fucking funny.

I think a "tweet" being a good apology is equivelent to a criminal fleeing the country, and then emailing his victim his apologies for the murder of their family member, from the comfort of a Pablo Escobar House-prison in the mountains of his home country in SA.

shout out to pablo escobar for being the only criminal ever to convince the government to let him build a mansion prison and do his time there.
