is 240v half price of 120v?

No, that is a myth.

The advantage is LESS amps since watts=volts x amps. If the voltage is higher, then less current (amps) are required to get the same wattage. The only advantage is that since there are less amps, the wire feeding the circuit can be smaller gauge. Wire is expensive, so if you are running a new circuit 100 ft away from your panel box, the upfront cost is a little cheaper.

For example, if you have a 1000w light on 120v, then it will draw 8.3 amps (8.3x120=1000w)

If you run that same lamp on 220v, then it only draws 4.2 amps, so theoretically you could run smaller wire. In reality, it would be the same size wire unless there were more devices on that same circuit since the smallest circuit size for a home is 15 amp, which you are well within burning only the 1000w bulb. Now, if we are talking SEVERAL 1000w bulbs, there might be an instance when you can save on wire by running 220v.

What is your point then?

What do you want to know?

Google "Basic Electricity" I bet you'll find plenty of information.

Good Luck :leaf:

i dont know what your point is i am not the OP you know that right,

i dont get why you quoted me your reply has nothing to do with what i posted i dont know what your talking about.

Good edit Sonar !

But doesn't 220 run 2 wires instead of 1 ?

It depends on the appliance. Some will use a 3 prong outlet, which needs 3 wires (black, white, bare) and some will use 4 prong (black, red, white, bare). I'd have to really check into the price of romex cable to compare, but I think the important thing is that you won't save on electricity by using 220v over 110v. It still uses the same amount of watts.

I meant 2 hot wires and a ground. That's what you'll see in the Romex.

P.S. - Out to the spa. C' ya
