Indoor Setup For Beginner

Im getting close to finishing my first outdoor grow with 6 plants, and was looking for a setup to continue growing throughout the winter. I've been looking into LED lights but all the quality ones seem too over priced so does anyone have any light recommendations, HPS or anything really? I have a budget of $200 to start off and wanted to get the best yield possible with that, though i've heard its hard. i have no setup whatsoever basically starting from square one. thanks

okay yeah i think i'll stick with the 300w for now. i'm thinking of doing a small setup in a corner of my garage, it's pretty big. do you or anyone have any other tips?
400 watt hps good for 3x3'
600w 3.5'x3.5'-4'x4'
1000w 5'x5'

And make sure you have sufficient intake and exhaust and air circulation fans.

Can intake passively but need an exhaust fan and likely carbon filter for odor.

Some use clip fans on the edge of the wing reflector to blow the heat away from the bulb and plants.

thank you i think ill shoot for a 600w and would a fan pointing out the window work? my garage has stone floors so it's usually pretty cold. also i heard LED lights would be better because HPS/MH lights use up a lot of electricity. would i be getting significantly less yield with an LED?

Sorry I have no led experience. Just got a 315 cmh last year and playing with that.

Consider night and day temp, are you going to use a tent? You will need a heater in there for night time when lights arnt warming it up anymore if your garage isn't a conditioned enviroment.
Doesn't matter what kind of exhaust you use, as long as temps are right. 60-70 at night, 70-80 during lights on. Closer your temps stay to each other, the better for your plants

my garage usually stays at a cool 70 night and day due to pretty good insulation. would HPS/MH lights heat it up enough where i'd need to do something about it?

Just like to add that I like to keep above 65 night as I have had cold wet soil lock out phosphorus just below 60 and I didn't get the temps up in time resulting in ugly purple and yellow droopy plants with rotting roots.

Takes hold quick in the right conditions. My open Michigan Basement in this instance.

The canopy temp was always reading over 63 but the air at the cold concrete floor despite plant stands.....

To do it right it will cost more. You need a tent or closet outfitted plus a 6" vortex fan and filter are a must.. Odds and ends.... You would really want an air cooled hood also which can be expensive. The heat from a 600w is pretty crazy. Craigslist is a good source for used equipment. I sold a very nice 400w light with incredible hood and nice tent for $150..

I'm going to duck and wait for the tomatoes to fly at me, but I've actually seen some really good grows with the Viparspectra LED's from Amazon. A 600w would fill a 3x3 space I believe.. Remember that LED's still produce heat when you run them hard.

i was looking at some LED's with 600W and HPS lights with 600W would one give better yield than the other or are they equal

Depends on how stable you keep your envirenment. Grow rooms spike in heat and humidity if proper measures are not taken

I always set up my rooms/ tents and run them a while empty to make sure I can keep them stable and in parameters.

And don't worry about "soil lockout". I said phosphorous. It does not uptake well from cold wet soil. The cold soil is the point.

And the bigger point is this is all trial and error and you have to see how each individual room and grow goes and then take measures to dial it in.

And then you get better and grow bigger better plants and it all goes up a level.

Try to learn to as much as you can so you have an idea why things happen.

And start reading books. An advanced member here linked this for us many times.
