Indoor HugelKultur Bed Gorrilla Cookies ChilLed Growcraft x5

I wanted to share my experiment I have going on with my grow. I have started a new bed based around HugelKultur. We will be growing the last 4 clones of Gorilla Cookies (GG#4xGSC). These are being grown under DIY ChilLed Growcraft x5 600w. This is a fresh made soil mix as well. Click Here for a full write up.

The general idea is that wood take a lot longer to decompose providing nutrients to your soil over a long period of time. Now they have been doing this in Germany and other heavily wooded areas in the world for a long time. So having 220 gallons of soil needed to fill a 4x4 no till bed I set out to save myself some money. Say hello to the oak log sitting at the bottom of my bed.

All said and done we filled the bottom third of the bed with this log as well as some 1.5" branches of oak and maple. This all got broken down and then wetted down.



From here we threw on a bag of mulch, a few handfuls of alfalfa hay and craft blend from BAS. Wet that all down and then kinda bang it in. Mix a third of your soil. Throw that in and bang it in a bit. Mix the rest and fill your pot. We mixed up a fresh batch of soil. Saved me about 100 bucks filling the bed. Watered it in with 12 gallons of water and some aloe. Cover with plastic and let sit till it cools down.

Now this did warm up to about 95F for 4 days I think. Then dropped to around 80 then hovered around 77 for a few days. At this point I threw on the composted mulch and clover.

On March 8th we dropped in our 4 girls and watered them in.

Popping in for a quick update. Be sure to check out my grow journal. My other bed is getting ready to go through harvest and I just dropped a few cool shots of the finishing off of those.
Now as for our new Hugel Bed we are moving right along. I made some LST clips from some insulated wire. They work well. Did a little lst on these to spread them out a bit more. Im gonna say another week maybe 2 and were going to be flipping to bloom. I would also like to note, that I have foiler feed these plants aloe with the lights on once per week. The bed has gotten watered 1 time with 1.5 gallons homemade aloe water followed by 5 gallons from the sprayers. They shouldn't need water for another week or so. Well do a daily water of half gallon to keep the mulch and top layer at a good moisture level.

Very cool. With all the care we take with these indoor beds I imagine the log will get broken down fairly quickly. Do you have any worms in there?

I thought they say not to plant in a hugelkultur bed for at least a year. . .
Looks very nice! Also though, are you looking to get increased decomp from having oxygen able to get to the underside of the bed??

Traditional Hukelkultur beds do wait a year. That is becuase they use fresh cut wood. since mine is all aged a year or more, I kinda got a jump start on that process. As for the underside of the bed, Im not concerned with decomp rates. I actually want it to go slower. The idea being of making a bed that I can grow in for years with just a little mulching and proper watering before I have to dig some out. I expect I will buy a new home before that happens. Time will tell. I think for me its more about just reducing the cost. I want to get to a point where I can drop a 3x3 or a 4x4 Bed in someones home, pop 4-16 plants and it just grows. Im trying to get it to where that system all boxed up is at 1600. I can get it down with a 3x3 but a 4x4 I'm floating around 2k.

Thought Id drop a couple of pic for tonight. Here we are the the 24th



4 days later. Had to get the harvest moved tonight into the dry tent and get that all dialed in for the next 10 days. Tomorrow were going to bush whack these pretty hard and let them veg out again. start getting them trained. Im also considering letting them get massive and filling up the whole 5x5.
I still cant get over the growth rate.

Sorry guys been hella busy. We have flipped to bloom as of tonight April 1st. Were just going to kinda let these go from here. Ill proly supercrop as we go to keep everything kinda level. I expect them to be bushy. This should be fun. A few pics.






Ran into a bit of a Gnat issue with the bed. Not surprising as the biolife is ramping up. Free Gnat trap, a couple splashes of Apple Cider Vinegar, tablespoon of sugar, 3 drops of dawn dish soap with a half cup of warm water and presto, instant gnat trap. I keep one in each tent. Top off with a little warm water from time to time.



We gonna have a interesting comparison here. the right one is laying lower but bigger around, and the right one is taller. Should be good.

Just a quick pop in before I take my stoned/slightly drunk ass to bed. I have dry spots in my bed. I KNOW! Some bullshit. So I may have over compensated just a smidge, but Im happy with the result. I cant really show you in the HK bed as the plants are getting massive, but here is the Living Soil bed, with the new spray set up. Its set exactly the same in the HK bed. Timer is set to water once a day for 3 min. Based on the flow meters that is around 5 gallons.

Had to LST the taller one, she out pacing the other ones. They growing fast and hard. Humidity is nice and high in the 70 range. I can hear my Fans going up and down regulating. Quick post for tonight. The nodal length is crazy. Whats does everyone thing, we need to put a net over it or just let em grow?

Good evening folks. Today is day before stage 1 defoliation. Starting tomorrow and over the next 3 days we will begin the process of cleaning these girls up. Well then go in and do a final clean up on the 21st






So a few thing to note for the next run. I'm not a fan of this to be honest. This is a bush. I want something more controlled. I think with the Living Soil bed that is about to get clones we are going to drop in 16 plants and flip them after a couple of weeks I may only do 9. This is too much jungle. Or after defoliation they fill out nicely and i just have tons of little branches.

Evening folks, Figured it was time for an update on this. This grow is going ok. We are day 26 into bloom. Stretch is over. This strain doesnt stetch for shit. LIke I was hoping for a least another 6-8 inches of height, and nada.... last time this pheno runs in my garden. Im not really doing anything with these. I did a light defoliation last week. i may pluck some here and there as we go. I have also decided that I wont be doing bushes again. I like taller plants,
