i'm a newbie...having a little trouble

good luck, how fast you water affects things too
if you just dump the water on, you get a lot of outflow that never really touches the soil
add it slow, and it's a much more efficient process

ok...i just visited the girls....here's the soil i'm using....
http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productTemplate.jsp?proId=prod70332&itemId=cat50154

it's just miracle grow potting mix with plant food...so here's the details..

i've been using this since day one with was oct 17th 2010. I had the plants under 2 cheap grow lights from walmart until jan 12th I moved out of my gf's house and moved the plants to another location...at this point they were almost 1-2 feet tall...when I moved them, i purchased the cfl bulbs 6500k or 6700k i believe...the 100w replacements..26 actual watts I believe...one per plant...and they've been set up that way ever since...shortly after doing this, they started getting funny...

I just checked on them and they look a little worse, but not much worse...leave tips are curled and there's some yellow coloration on the leaves....here is what they look like..

right now I am dumping a gallon of water into each and letting it drain thoroughly....figured i'd try to flush out any build-up....after I do this...what do you think I should do next watering?

pretty nice pics, i thought they were in worse shape, don't look too bad
i'm kind of amazed of the compactness from 1 26w cfl per plant, you seem to be doing that pretty well
you may want to be cautious on doing a flush, that can be dangerous with the time fed soils, you can burn worse
it's not obvious what exactly the issues are, could have some pot bound issues, 2 foot is good sized for the 1 gallon pot
the yellowing leaves are more of a deficiency look

cool..good to know...i've kept the bulbs really close to the plants....i heard that if you do this, it will keep the plant short and bushy...I already did the flush so I guess we will see what happens...I'm going to eliminate the nutes for a while just water them when the soil dries...do you think I should transplant them into the same soil but in 5 gallon buckets?

i'm just uncertain how to water the plants...I was going to do 1/5th of the pot capacity..but 1/5th of a gallon seemed like a small amount....

also...how safe is it to post pics on here? and to talk about this stuff? haha...cuz of course...these aren't my plants...they are just plants that look exactly the same as mine :)

from your pics, i'm thinking you don't have a burning issue, looks more like the soil nutes have been exhausted
but you were feeding, so it's tough to be sure, you may have overfed a bit, then gone back to a nute deficit
i saw one leaf that was rimmed with yellow - that usually indicates a lack of nitrogen, there wasn't enough nitrogen when the new portion of the leaf grew
some people have good luck with smaller pots, i'm not one of them, 2 gallons are my minimum
if your soil is nute depleted, you should see the plants get gradually worse
transplanting to a new larger pot could be the way to go, don't hesitate to throw up a new thread with pics in the plant problem form, more eyes the better
as far as safety, this is pretty safe, just don't talk about your grow, that's were the trouble starts

slow down....the only way your gonna kill these is by constantly messing with them/flushing them multiple times/over watering/underwatering ect... just water when the pots are light (when you pick them up) and dont worry so much about exact amounts of water...water it slowly till it runs out the bottom....saturate evenly over the entire top of the soil...you looking for a good healty runoff...that MG stuff is soo different from my FFOF though....the MG sucks up alot of water so if it was me i would water until i got a small amount of runoff and i'd stop with the MG...

a LACK of nitrogen? hmm..i'm confused now..haha..i thought they were burning becasue of too much nitrogen..I guess we will find out in a few days....and yeah, I should try to get them in bigger pots next week...what do you mean don't talk about your grow? isn't that what everyone is doing in here?

i usually pour enough water on top where it starts to fill up...i've been pouring a lot of water in to the point where the pot almost over flows...then I nkow the water will hit all parts of the soil around the plant..is this good or bad? then I let them drain out for 10 minutes or so..

MJ tends to yellow gradually when deficient in nitrogen
overall the plants don't look burnt, they look big, bushy, but beginning to yellow
i mentioned burn from your verbal description, but it's dangerous to diagnose without pics
by talking i mean talking with people you know(and who know you), talking on here is safe provided you don't give out personal info

oh i got ya. well I guess i'll see what they look like in a few days when I see them again...i'll take pics if they look much different..

water slowly covering most if not all of the top...stop....wait for it to drain some....then water again slowly and usually by now water is starting to seep out...stop....;)

agave sugar eh? havent heard that one. Not knockin it i just havent heard of it used for this though i understand it. Truvia worlks good too, or just plain ole unsulfured molasses..

On your next run, try using Humboldt Soil & Botanicare pure blend is prefect for you. Simple and super effective. TRUST ME. With the Humboldt soil you don't have to feed for three weeks, then you can feed the Botanicare. Also use agave sugar during the flower stage (costco sells it cheap)., cheap, dissolves easy 1/4 cup per 20 gal. AGAVE SUGAR IS MY SECRET.
where do I purchase this soil? I don't have any costco's in my area...is it a common product...home depot maybe?

how comes you only need to feed every three weeks..does the soil itself just retain nutrients well?

Its not a feeding every 3 weeks thing. The soil itself will contain enough nutes for the first three weeks. Do you have any garden stores or nurseries, or hydro stores?

my best guess is you've become pot bound with 2 foot plants in a one gallon pot
this looks like deficiency, i think you need to transplant to larger containers
you have done well with small cfls/pots, but i think you've hit the wall with the current setup
the soil is probably low on nutrients at this point
i know you were feeding with MG for a while, and that was reasonable, could have worked
but soil/pot size/plant size combo can be finicky, some combos have problems sooner rather than later

well I was told to never mix grow mediums...so I was planning on sticking with the MG soil...so should I just transplant them and continue watering without nutes?
