If you were wrongly convicted of a serious crime...

I'm right there with whoever said attempt to escape.

Is it wrong to try to escape, given the circumstances of your conviction and incarceration?

nah not wrong at all, if you can bust outta max or even min security w/o anyone knowing i think youve earned your freedom

Escape?
They use a lot of elect fences in Cali. now. They don't have any escapes any more!
Anybody with a bunch of time to do is usually kept inside the 'inner' perimiter, and never even see the outer walls.
Good luck with trying to escape, probably just gonna add more time to your already long sentence & loose your privilages.

The only guy's you hear about escaping now, are min security inmates with little time to do.

you get caught escaping..they can shoot you on the spot...exhaust every appeal possible and hope one day they free you and find the real killer/rapist whatever...there are millions of crazy women who LOVE inmates..some are actually hot, if you get sprung you know you have found a good girl who will never leave ya and there is a nice payday coming from the state for the wrongful conviction..because the only way these days with forensics that an innocent guy is convicted of serious crimes is with an inept lawyer or a dirty d.a.

I loved it in there those ass hats sat around at night watching cops.
Come to me 1 day and threatened me with a beat down cause I kept
playing cards with a black guy we were both over 45 more like 48 for me and he had to be in his 60s.
I told the boy that was telling me he was gonna have to issue a beat down to me that if it came I wasn't
going to stand there and take it like the other white boys that I would bring every thing I had and they better also or stay home.
Then he asked me what my car was and I said I came in a VW Bug all by myself.
If you going to be there for a while you can be punked or left be it's up to you.
And if you didn't do it appeal it...

I would think that under the circumstances in the op, I'm not trying to escape undetected. More like gearing my brain to hawk mode, learning every pattern of every step every person in there makes, devising a plan of mayhem and then executing my plan.
Obviously, the odds are high that it results in your death, but I'd prefer that to a lifetime behind bars for something I didn't do.

only way to escape would be to get outside somehow..a doctors appointment outside the facility...like cancer or an operation or something that the md in the joint can not handle..you would need help from a friend or two to handle the guards when they unload the prison van...or have enough money to pay the guards off

If I was looking at 25-life, I think I could come up with a plan with a pretty high chance of success. I'd just sit around all day planning everything out, I'd make it an obsession.

Exactly. Sooner or later you'll find a crack to slip thru or someone will make a mistake you can exploit.
You only get one life and I'm not wasting mine because some assholes and their system got it wrong.

There are 150,000 inmates locked up in California prisons alone. They are all planning an escape.
Some of these guys are really brite, even though they've committed a crime, they are still intellegent.
I had engineers & college professors celled up with gang bangers. I even had an inmate that's a Navy seal instructor, & he's still there.
"The System" is pretty good at preventing escapes. They've had a lot of years to get it right.

As far as bribeing guards goes, remember this, a CO makes close to $100,000 a year including overtime & benifits.
He'll make millions over his carreer just counting your ass 3 times a day. He ain't gonna risk that unless you really got some money.
Hell he can make $300 for every cell phone he brings in! Don't even talk about cigarettes!

Naw, prison ain't what it used to be. There were 2 escapes from Folsom Prison in the 25 years I worked there. One went out thru the storm drain system, after a partner cut thru all the bars from the river up into the prison. They now have heat & motion sensors in & all around the prison, including the sewers.
The other guy went out in a truck load of furniture. They no longer allow trucks in or out of the prison while the inmates are out of there cells. Staff move full trailers out & empties in, before the inmates are allowed out of their cells. They fill & empty the trailers during the day & they sit overnight inside. The inmates go thru 6 counts before morning.

One thing they were affraid of (& the reason they don't use swipe id's) is counterfit identfication. They still visually check each Id of staff going in & out. And if they didn't recognize your face, you better be ready to sit & wait. We had id cards with mag strips in them, they just wouldn't use them. You still have to hand your id to a guard, face to face. They try to keep gate officers at the same job for a long time, they know every staff member personally!

Good luck

I'd do what I can, as long as I can, with whatever I have, and when that's all exhausted, I'd kill myself. I'd rather be dead than locked up like that. Fuck it.

The ones that get me are the inmates that have been exicuted & then they found out someone else did it. Can you imagine!

That's the main reason I'm against the death penalty. "The System" ain't perfect, & we've exicuted innocent people! Good Lord!

Gee and we wonder why they'll throw in the clink for every thing, And also if they want to make more money they can work their off hrs.
working weekends for the DARE program steeling weed and playing Rambo at the tax payers expence...

I should talk I could have gone back after parole and some training to the same prison that housed me.
I feel for the COs I'd hate to do their job. Depressing work.

DoubleJ, I hear you. I just don't care. Everyone has a price, and CO's are how the majority of contraband comes in. Also, I know everyone is trying to escape and prisons are geared to stop it. That wouldn't hinder my effort one tiny bit. If I failed, but died chewing a CO's head off at the neck, so be it.
I would absolutely get out or die trying, with emphasis placed on taking as many souls with me as possible. Call it Karma.

I also dislike the death penalty for the reason you stated, but I still support it. Some people just don't belong on this somewhat civilized version of Earth. I would make some changes to it tho, like absolutely no circumstantial death cases whatsoever. If it cannot be proved beyond all doubt with concrete evidence, that inmate should live. If you have video of some dick in the act of the crime, fry his ass like a piece of bacon, chop that into lardons, and serve him as garnish to other assholes on death row.
Life is short and hard. I don't have the time or energy to fuck around.

Corrections was losing 50% of qualified candidates due to 1 question in the interview, "Have you ever tried Marijuana?"

Now they don't ask.
Now they drug test.

i agree completely

Inmates that try to escape wind up at Pelican Bay, SuperMax! There's some real assholes that work there!

I've seen inmates shot off the fence. They shot 2 just to stop them from committing suicide on the elect fence.

If you think life in prison is gitting off easy, you've never done time. With exicution you'll suffer for a minute.
With life without, you suffer all day, every day. It's much less humane!

Agree. But still, you seem to miss my point. I am saying I would welcome death in any fashion with open arms (but would prefer for others to die with me) before I would do life, or 25 to life or whatever, for things I did not do. I would see it as a happy ending vs a pitiful existence. They could shoot me, shock me, peel my skin off with pliers...who cares? If I was able to get one or more of them first, I'd die smiling. That's all I'm saying.
