Hello ppl I am new here so first HI EVERYONE! and then... Please help me! (maybe someone already asked this but the thread is too big to read it all). I want to star my first indoor with a led light (want to grow just 2 plants in 1 meter x 1 meter x 1.60 meter tall) so I want to choose between the black star 240w and the mars hydro 300w, someone already told me to buy the mars hydro 400w because it is way better than this two. So hope some of you can help me choose the right led and if you know another one for a price similar to these two please tell me. I dont have much money so I could only pay max 350 bucks with shipping (I am from Chile). Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Bonjour
If you really want to buy those lights there is a thread about mars in here.
But I am not sure that a lot of peoples here would advice you to take those. And for 350 $ you could have a really better pannel if you are good tools!if you are not just buy it!
Have a great day★

Actually there is many threads about how good it is for the price. The price is really high because of the shipping, it´s almost the same as the product for my country u.u. and I dont feel capable of doing it by myself

thanks for the reply! have a great day.

Wow, SaraHu, this is just sad, and painfully transparent. There are no threads here on RIU about how good Mars Hydro lights are because your lights are not good. If your going to compare a BlackStar, to Mars Hydro, that's like comparing two turds of different sizes and asking which one is better. When we all know the answer is that they're both shit.

You were asked nicely to leave these long running threads alone and start your own. You won't do that because you saw how we treated Twilight LED. This LED forum was started to smoke out the scam artists like you, so we could stop wasting our good money, and see which LED's were superior to the rest. So pretty please, with sugar on top, leave us alone.

I dont understand what is SaraHu. Never said in this forum (and in treads on RIU you actually can find ppl posting pictures of good growing with mars), all over the internet you can find treads talking about the mars hydro and how good it is, even videos and stuff like that. Really not sure what you have been smoking mate, so please if you really think the mars is shit I would appreciate some usefull help insted of this weird answer, like telling me a good led light that is not expensive for a starter like me.

Okay, I'll play along. So you have a 3x3 area that you're growing in, according to your post above.
There's Optic Lighting's Vero 29 360w panel for around $750, or you could hang two Area 51 RW-150 panels for $800, or even a California Light Works 440w panel for about $750-$800. All of those options will crush a Mars Hydro light of equal wattage. When I say crush, I mean they'd out yield Mars Hydro by a couple of ounces, not just a few grams.

Mars Hydro lights are known for having diodes, and drivers, die out early. Not to mention that when you see the final yield from a Mars Hydro, it's always underwhelming. You'd actually get a better performance from some Cree LED light bulbs that your local hardware store would carry.

Well that is way off my money amount, I am a begginer and I want to spend max 350 bucks and also you gotta consider that shipping to chile is f*** expensive! Going to check about those cree led lights you mention.

This is what I've been running.

http://www.cidly.com/Apollo.html
Read really good stuff about the apollo but couldnt find one with a low shipping cost to my country. I find it super hard to choose a led light, many ppl have different opinions and you can find good yield videos for many led lights, also I found many comparisson videos but you cant trust them. Like Apollo vs Mars Hydro says Apollo is better but it is from the store that sells the Apollo, or the Mars vs Blackstar says the Mars is better but the guy sells Mars... Hope to make the right decision, I will come back in a few months to tell how it went with the one I buy. Good luck to everyone!

Otherwise you should really go with HPS especially if your grow area is 1x1 meter because a 300 watt marshydro (actually 150) is not strong enough for 9+square foot.
A 600 watt HPS is (a lot) cheaper than a LED of equal wattage.

You seriously need to look into Cree or Vero COB's and Wago connectors.

It's Solderless. If you pick the right parts and have users here go over your parts list to make sure everything is right it's really no harder then connecting a few wires.

Thanks for the answers, cant find anything about cree leds or vero on my country (only on ebay or aliexpress), saw some info online, sure not for me at this time (I should read more about it but its not my native language and I am really tired of reading about the topic, have been many days looking info online with so many different opinions), maybe in the future I will give it a go and try to build it myself (seems like a good idea, mars use bridgelux, cree and epistar, so sure someone can build it itself). By now I will buy the mars hydro II 700w for 300 usd, seems pretty nice for a starter and saw many good videos with great results, also I can always sell it here in chile, the best thing here you can buy is blackstar 240w and it is 300 USD. I let you know how it goes and I dont love or know the brand so I will keep it honest. Thanks for your time guys!

Your better off buying a small hid setup(250w hps +) than that mars fixture, listen to the people! It will fail and the warranty sucks, you'll be left with an expensive doorstop in less than 2 yrs.

Maybe check for a local led company in south America, I remember someone posted about a quality one awhile ago, Google is your friend.

Congratulations on the copa, lucky bastards ;-)

Couldnt find the optic vero 29 at that price or a price near that, also not many info or videos about it.

Already been growing for years with hps with great results but the energy bill is really high and they tend to break easy so I thought the led will be a good option, now we have one in the house (my housemate) that was bought here, Power Grow Titan 6, 270 real watt, supossed to be great and it is really bad, works awesome for veg but bloom is nothing like a hps (costed 600 usd here), other options are Apollo, UFO, GO120 and others Go and many unbranded leds.

Really confussed right now... maybe I will just stay with a high power bill and buying new hps often. I listen to the ppl! problem is ppl tells so many different stuff! Even in treads around RIU you can see photos of great yields (I use many forums and ways to contact ppl not just RIU), a guy says he gots 150 grams from a mars 700 each time and that sounds great to me.

I feel safe about the mars because is cheap I have good reviers of ppl growing and if it does not work I can always sell it! (maybe even get money, never lose it) But I am a smart guy so If it really that bad I will stay with hps.

thanks for the replies guys! Keep helping average growers like me :)

And thanks for the congrats on copa america!!! it was fun! come to the south of chile if you like cold beautiful places, it is amazing, check out torres del paine, frutillar, puerto varas... What great places to light up the vape! (Arizer Solo always with me!)

360vero is 799.00 and with the HIGHYIELD its 699.00 and 699.00 for that model is a steal!

What good is a led grow light that has such high failure rates ? I also wouldn't consider it cheap if you end up tossing it in the trash after 4-5 runs......hps is a reliable system. It has its drawbacks like everything else on the market.

I agree with indica.......I would definitely try to stick with a cob based fixture or DIY in your situation if you must lower electrical costs. Their easy to repair/maintain and upgrade in the future...also proven to produce great yields in the numerous threads on riu.

Well I dont wanna spend 699 usd, any other options suggestions? Dont know how it is in your country but here the bill electricity goes to the roof with hps, it is like paying the bill two times each month instead of one, but yeah I got awesome buds with hps and sure it wont be the same with led if I dont spend a lot of money, maybe I will use led for veg and Led plus Hps for bloom.

Ever try 12/12 from seed? Should help reduce consumption..........it doesn't get cheaper than that for a quality pre built cob fixture.....can DIY and cut cost in half?(shipping to Chile/find locally.. idk?)....very easy to put together, don't even need to solder. Lots of tutorials and helpful people on here

Good luck
