IF MONEYS NOT A PROBLEM are LED lights Better then HID?

Even in a few years 600w of LED will draw as much power as 600w of HID... What is heavier, a ton of lead or a ton of feathers?

he said 600watts is 600watts....

his first statment about in acouple years i asume was about the OP's first question are led's better than hps if money isnt an option.

What? I though part of his question was: "will a 600w LED light take less power then a 600w HPS light?"

No a 600w LED light takes 600w and a 600w HPS light takes 600w.

ya i figured that, but by starting your sentence "even in a few years" which would be a response to the second poster who was the only one to mention anything about in a few years

A watt is a quantitative measure of energies. Asking witch 600w system use more power is just like if you have two car that run 35mpg and you're asking witch one will use more gas. LED system are getting closer every day to perform just like HID although it's not yet the case But they do have a serious advantage in heat emission.

I use two tri-band 400w ufo's for vegetating, 8 plants can vegetate but I only have room for 4. They do save cost on electric bill from my experience. The average family household in my area uses 1400KW per month. Im at 1480kw monthly which is perfect and that includes the 400w HPS flowering chamber as well. How is this possible you ask? This is accomplished by never using the dishwasher or dryer. Dont be lazy hand wash ur dishes and Air dry ur clothes, and also try not to use the oven, use your outdoor grill.

Your lights will take place for the electricity saved, keeping your electricity bill where its suppose to be. Your welcome

I have a science book that says that lead and feathers both have their own specific measuring techniques and standards, and each different category of thing you can mesure has it's own rules, so in reality a ton of lead would never weigh exactly as much as a ton of feathers

Hps is still king when it comes to bud quality and yield. A 600 watt hid is about the best light for the money. If cash isn't a problem buy a nice quiet generator that's hidden with a good muffler.

You'd think so, but this isn't exactly true.

A nominally rated 600W HPS lamp actually draws around 640W, give or take a bit, because the ballast also uses its own energy in addition to the bulb.

Meanwhile, LED lights are typically rated by the total MAX capacity of each LED diode. But in fact, they're typically NOT run that hot, because the diodes get too hot and this shortens their working life.

So in fact, an LED panel labelled as 600W that is built from 200 3W diodes might truly only be drawing 400 watts. There is no real standardization in how the manufacturers label their products that way, but right now MOST of the LED panel makers do NOT label their products with the true power draw.

In sum, a so-called 600W LED probably isn't drawing the same current as a 600W HPS lamp, even though they have the same "number" attached.

As to which is better, I've looked into this quite a bit, and in my opinion, HID lighting still offers the best spectrum and value/performance ratio. Which isn't to say that LED lighting isn't OK, and still improving, but except under certain pretty specific circumstances, I think HID is *generally* better.

do not mistake weight and volume. size does not determine weight. 1 ton is 1 ton.

leds may not be worth the value? If cash wasn't an issue, 600 True watts of led will out produce a 600w HPS. If i had the money, i would love to do a side by side, but for the price of 600w of led, i could air cool 2 more 600w of hps....

Alot of people on here talk about leds saving electricity, and i assume that means you can get the same production for less power draw. watt for watt i believe leds are more efficient.
