I don't really understand why people are so anti defoliation, there isn't this much hate for other techniques. Did Hitler defoliate his plants or something?

You're the second person that mentioned that they are happy with their 5 oz plants, and that's fine really it is!!

Keef who wrote the article on groweedeasy is getting 8 to 14 oz per plant using one 400w HID, and using the highly skilled technique of pulling leaves off.

I don't know why he bothers when he could leave the leaves on and get less than half as much?
I do believe Hitler DID defoliate his plants....and lollipopped 'em too while using very expensive nutrients.

I never said I was a top grower with my 5 oz's a plant.....hell, I don't even consider myself a good grower yet as I have only been doing this for about a year now. I think it's amazing what some people can do with these plants.

But this is a newbie thread and I'm sure he used very advanced techniques to achieve that type of yield. It's my opinion that KISS is the way a new grower should go and to expect someone that's never grown weed to know how to defoliate expertly and have good results is a stretch. I have a feeling a new grower would be happy as shit if he or she got a 5 zip plant.

Page 28 and I still haven't seen anyone prove the case for defoliation with a side by side scientific controlled grow that proves defoliation produces a higher gram per kilowatt hour. Sorry if I missed it, a lot of BS to wade through at this point.

It's pretty natural for older growers to remain skeptical until some real comparable data is produced. I remember when people said that putting nails into your stems would create bigger buds. So maybe you defoliators are cutting edge pioneers, or maybe you've been fooled. Glad there is experimentation taking place and I've changed my tune many times based on real research, so bring it.

at the end of the day this thread was only created to achieve mayhem...so good job.

as otheres have already stated the original bait and switch of plant pics and then oh well look at the yield here pics after as a see I told ya you were wrong make it obvious what your intentions were here and they were not to have an educated civil discussion regarding whether it is beneficial to defoliate or not..

so you in turn get the same exact thing you asked for and to think someone should somehow debate seriously the topic with you is as retarded as the way you manipulated the thread..

so I will sit back and continue to get a good laugh at the occasional good joke cause thats all this thread was ever gonna be good for.

No I'm not, you're just assuming that's what I meant!

What I said has nothing to do with the size or number of plants, I'm talking about the positioning of your lamp.

My point was that lower buds will grow bigger and fatter if they can get a decent amount of light as with vertical hanging lamps, Alexander disagrees and believes it to be down to hormones and not the lamps position. I think you should let Alexander reply to the questions that I put to him, as he has all of the answers.

If you are going to chip in to this discussion then please try to understand what is being said!! I thought you were busy inventing the light that shines from all angles anyway, I have cash waiting!! Until you do I'll keep removing leaves so that the light can penetrate unhindered to the lower buds.

Still WINNING!!!
did you see the pics of the bottom half of his plants stripped bare???????? That is NOT growing colas on lower branches. Your new name should be donkey.

i would agree. As a new grower myself, I plan on getting good at learning how to grow good healthy plants. Then begin to do other techniques to get better but I will do those one at a time.

haven't read all the 10 pages since last night lol

but been trying to put my defoliated technique across, so its easy to follow :)

stickybuds defoliated

in veg

not all plants can deal well with being defoliated. It will be obvious if they take poorly to it.

Defoliate on Indicas and Indica-dominant hybrids, even some 50/50 and 40/60 (indica/sativa) hybrids do well.

after the plants have grown 6" high
top them just above the 4 or 5 set of nodes

I Pick off the some fan leaves in veg that are established with a stem connecting them to the main shoot of at least 2" long as this increases airflow and light in the canopy

if you want to slow down the top main shoots growth
cut all leaves in half at the top 3" of that main shoot
this will slow down the growth for 2-3 days on that shoot only

7-10 before flower

for the largest colas you want to remove any long weak shoots , this will give each shoot more light, air flow and more nutes from the roots.
on really bushy plants I have removed upto 60% of the side shoots

flower

to stop the main shoots stretching you can cut all the leaves in half (top 3" ) first week in flower

Pick off all fan leaves that are established with a stem connecting them to the main shoot 4" or longer, this increase air flow/light getting deep in the canopy

DO NOT pick fan leaves that are directly connected to a newly budding node this will reduce the bud growth

We can just stop this already, given the "claims" of both sides...
One says if you defoliate, it increases the number of new growth and promotes lush growth.
The other says you need leaves... duh

What is this arguement about, then?:weed:
One pro defoliation faction says you defoliate so that double the leaves grow back, then when that happens, strip plant of leaves again, doubling them yet once more (actually you've quadrupled the original leave count by now). I think some argued that you even strip/defoliate a third time.
This group says the technique works due to all the leaves...

The other pro defoliation faction seems to argue that defoliation works because removing the leaves allows the light to reach the bud sites (as though bud size and potency are determined by direct exposure to light).
This group argues that the technique works due to the absence of leaves...

Can't have both conditions, can you?
It is a very confusing argument.

If I wanted a lot of leaves, then this method would work. But for the health of my buds I would totally choose scrog.
I seem to have enough leaves on one plant to shade themselves, but another is truly lacking foliage. It looks like a dirty hobo.
If it weren't an autoflower, how could I increase the foliage? (Without additional branching.)
