I cannot clone for the life of me!

When I first started 3yrs ago, I bought a power cloner(aero) and had no problems! Since my 1st bad batch in my aero cloner, I have not had good results since... I got a nice water chiller and set it to 75F and they would do nothing for 2 wks! So, I run it closer to 80F with pool shock, adding pool shock every 5 days... I think 5 days is too long! Recently got some root cubes and dome, still brown & mushy on top! I atleast got some roots this time! Cloning has eluded me and I feel the need to master it! I dont even want to pop my $100 seeds if I cant clone!

If you're having such issues, why not just Cline in soil or coco, and then transplant to hydro? I'd often do this with coco, then just wash all the roots off in the bath and chuck it into DSC buckets. Never caused me a problem' stress, sterility, or otherwise.

Or why not just clone in s glass of water and then throw into a netoit when roots are established?

Superthrive works.... you could just take the clone and remove a few lower leaves and plant it to the bottom leaf with your medium. That always works for me.

I am doing root cubes in a dome and a % of the tops are catching some brown on them... Can I spray with sulphur or something before I cut?
My clone machine/chiller are packed away for now... Until a guru shows me the way!

rockwool cube & cloning gel works most of the time, thought about making a daisy cloner but didnt see the point.

I use the cheap dirt pucks. Cut and scrape/peel clone stalk, dip in rooting gel, then place in wet dirt puck. Squeeze off excess moisture(don't kill it, just get the excess out). Flatten bottom when you squeeze so it stands up. Dirt bun should be dry/damp. Place in humidity dome and mist every couple o days till some roots pop out. Key is to not get the buns too wet. They should never drip, and no water should run out if you give'em a gentle squeeze. Close to 100% sucess rate for years now with this method.

I dont mean to get upset! did you read the post? I am at my wits end and getting mad. sorry guys... I bought my chiller at x-mas... I have had problems cloning for 2yrs... If you NEVER had problems cloning, dont talk to me! I need someone who has battled brown slime and won!

What size power cloner do you have? I have a 165 power cloner and run it without a chiller and get roots in 4-7 days for most strains. Hydro guard and power cloner solution are the only two things I use. It runs 24/7 with the dome and I spray the dome daily until I see roots/preroot nub. I change the water every 4-7 days as well depending in root growth. I prefer to change it as often as possible so as soon as 50% plus have roots I change it out.

Now porky501 said it best and ill list my steps below for using the aero cloner

I take a cup full of veg nutrient mix from my veg room res and use that to dip my clones. I try to take clones that are at least 4 inches long and make my first cut at a 45 degree angle to remove from mother. I then remove all leaves except for top two and nearest to the top one below to allow for enough stored nutes if needed. After I remove unneeded leaves I place it in cup of water and continue to take clippings from mother. Once cup it full (about 7-10) I'll bring them over to my cloning unit and prepare them for that.

To prepare for cloner I use rootech gel and take the spring scissors I originally used to cut off the mother and scrape the outer layer of tissue off so it exposes a moist light green color. By scraping the outer layer of tissue off you will expose the part of the stem that will allow for maximum uptake of rooting hormone. Once you have removed that layer, quickly dip in gel approx 1.5 inches up(that is how much tissue you should remove as well) and place in puck in unit. I have 1 2ft 4 bulb floro over entire machine one 18/6.

Mist dome(I use bottled water non phd)and place over plant make sure holes are closed on dome. The bottom leaf will slowly die as nutes are sucked out of it. This is a good sign that roots are emerging.

Pond-zyme, I have heard of it! Petco carries it right? New plugs, I still have the originals! It may be time to do a nuclear cleaning!

i recently took 12 cuts, used powder and put them in coco coir pellets in a tray of perlite (as i've read to do). ended with brown slime everywhere, 0% success rate. then i cut 5 plants in half, used the powder and coco coir pellets and planted all 5 into the same 5 gallon container. watered it well and put a clear sheet of plastic over the top and left it in the shade under a tree for 2 weeks, opening it for fresh air daily. the moisture evaporating from the soil gathers on the plastic sheet creating a very humid environment and all the water drips back down onto the plants and the soil when you open it for fresh air. never watered or misted the entire 2 weeks as there was no need to, and once i started noticing some growth i dug them up and transplanted. let me say there were roots EVERYWHERE. 100% success rate with the most vigorous root growth i've ever seen on a cutting
why i cut plants in half and rerooted them is another story :lol:

my next experiment will be using a 5 gal bucket and a pond pump with 360 degree spray nozzles attached inside

Forgot one KEY part. I cut the stem a second time after I scrape off tissue UNDER water in the same cup at 45 degree angle and immediately dip. There is a lot of debate about air bubble getting stuck in stem when cut out of water so I always stuck with making a second/finally cut underwater before I dip in gel.

T5 is way too powerful. Does it have dual switches for 4 and 4 bulbs? If so try turning one set of 4 off. Clones need little light so they focus on rooting. That light also heats up a lot faster. My 2ft 4 bulb has a very small foot print but my cloner is only 3x3ish so it just covers it. Back in the day I used a 2bulb shop light from Home Depot. I'm sure they are selling them with t5 bulbs now a days. That may be a cheap fix if you can't reduce the light from the t5. If u have chiller. Id running it about 76-78 since clones do need warmer temps.i prefer aqua shield and always got better results but botanicare stopped producing it because it had a shelf life of 6 months and would sit in a distributors warehouse for 5 of those months. Hydroguard is supposed to do same thing but different bacteria. If your aqua shield is old id ditch it. Also power cloner solution at 10 mil per gallon not that 20+ crap so you have to buy more sooner. I ditched clonex when I ditched rockwool cubes so I don't know if it will work as good.

Get an 8 oz bag of oregonism xl. It's full of trichoderma and beneficial bacteria and will not only keep the nasty stuff away, and help your cuts root faster. Use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in your cloner. It works.

By splitting you exposed the central cylinder and xylem. You want the hormones to react with the exposed xylem to breakdown and encourage root development.
