The difference is HLG contracted directly with Samsung, and have their own production facility in the USA where they make the PCB boards. So they are guaranteeing a higher quality product that has passed QC checks, and they are transparent about the manufacturing process, and components used.

The knockoff clone boards are using an exact replica design for board layout, and they *say* they are using the same diodes, but the reality is that you don't know. If you look into 'binning' they could be the same part number, but a lower grade that didn't make the cut. They have to save some $ somewhere, and if they are dishonest enough to use HLG's brand name and marketing to sell their product, I can pretty much guarantee you they are cheapening out elsewhere. If not the chips themselves, the solder, or some other part.

Let me put it this way. Say I bring my motorcycle to you for service. Sure you can use knockoff non OEM parts to save a few $. They might perform just as well. However if I am spending money and don't want to take short cuts, I am willing to pay the premium for the real thing. Especially if it's something I want to take care of and make last a long time. Again, OEM parts might last just as long, but chances are they will fail sooner, and in worst case can cause new problems.

I also asked early on, if you had designed some new better motorcycle component, and put years into getting it to market, and came up with a good name like Sickboy Filters or some shit. And then someone from China came along and copied your design, and then started selling copies for 1/2 price using your name and marketing info. Be honest, would you be cool with this? If not, then why is it cool to do to Stephen from HLG?

Well said. In the Big Wheel Bagger Market it happens Everyday and yess It sucks. I feel you on that. I personally didn’t know that HLG actually invented the quantum board design. I am an American Buisness supporter and I think it shows from me going to bat for Hygrow because he states He is a USA Buisness and buys from USA manufacturers. And Builds Every light that goes out the door. I would never buy from alibaba , I actually told my sister 2 weeks ago don’t ever buy a light from alibaba You get what you pay for. Hygrow dosnt advertise anywhere with the words hlg and I was just giving my personal experience dealing with this gentleman inquiring about his lights. Y’all came out calling this man a liar about his wife’s cancer and that just ticked me off. Not you personally and I appreciate you being civil with your last post. I got enough enemy’s. , I’m here to learn and ask and help anyway I can. This thread wasn’t posted to try and sell a light. I appreciate you for your input and for the 3rd time I was Wrong when I said HLG was greedy. I own that mistake. This thread is dead See y’all on another thread someday. Watch for my side by side grow after I move

Cool man I am glad we were able to end on a positive note.

Just to clarify one last thing. "Quantum Boards" itself is an HLG trademark, someone posted a link earlier in the thread. Hygrow definitely uses this term in their marketing. I do also think it is misleading that he says he buys from USA vendors, when the only thing I see is that his heatsink is from Heatsink USA. I also dont see anywhere that he says the boards are not made in China. He only says that he assembles and ships from the USA. I know he says he doesn't buy on Alibaba, but that is word play. Alibaba is no different from Amazon. In fact a lot of those same sellers do sell on Amazon. Willing to bet the boards are made in China. If you straight up ask him, "Are the actual LED boards manufactured in the USA", I bet he will say no. If I am wrong, and there is a PCB board manufacturer in the US making these boards, they are violating IP copyright.

Sorry for how I came across yesterday, was having my own frustrations at home and I took it out on you. I jumped to conclusions that the Hygrow guy was a straight up fraud, and again I apologize for implying he was lying about his wife's cancer. I shouldn't have said that period. Just know that there are some really shit people out there (specifically on FB) using MMJ patient stories to sell their products. I wont elaborate here, but they have targeted my family before, and I unfairly lumped him into that category.

Looking forward to your side by side grow. Will be rooting for HLG :)

Also, LH301H is in no way any different than LM301B. B measures output in Lux for the lighting industry, H is in μmol/J for Horticulture. Marketing terms for different industries. Exact same production line, different packaging.

Just to clarify, meijiu has been making lights long before hlg, so to say hgl is being cloned,,well you've got that backwards.

Meiju may have been making lights before HLG. Doesn't change the fact that the 288 diode "Quantum Board" layout is HLG trademarked design. Meiju copied this and then used HLG branding in their marketing. They have come out with some new original designs since then, but their Qb288 boards are bootlegs, clones, replicas whatever you want to call it.

Did you ever do the grow comparison? I'm really wanting to know if the Hygrow is as good as HLG. I saw the Hygrow on eBay and searched here on RIU and found this thread.
