What does "built from parts just like HLG" mean to you?..

Beating a dead horse. I admitted I was wrong for saying hlg is greedy and what that means to me is they are built with the same components as HLG with a different driver

HLG is the shit!
Their product is top notch and so is their customer service
I had one small issue with a driver dimmer screw and they sent me a completely new driver, for free very quickly. I never had to do a shit ton of emailing and stuff, and it wasn't a hassle at all. For this I will stick with HLG, and support a company based out of my country
There is nothing wrong with saving a little money man, it's just too bad they had to ripoff someone elses design, and I'm sure they aren't really as bad as people want them to be. Overall I won't buy stuff like that because I know that the service sucks and if something were to go wrong, I'm sure I'd have to go through a bunch of BS just to get things straightened out. It would suck to be stuck without a light mid grow because something broke that wasn't supposed to and then have to fight for it. Not saying I have personal experience with this company, but with HLG I know I'm in good hands with all that money I invested on LED lights

HLG has great customer service no doubt. I have there 260 qb they have a better warranty. Hygrow has only a 1 year warranty on led and 5 yr on driver and I have no experience with dealing with a issue but getting to know the gentleman outside of doing Buisness I’m certain there would be no issues. That’s also why I would never deal with alibaba for that reason.

The B has the same coating. Not gonna argue. That article you posted was before they even came out. HLG confirmed this. I trust them more than some random sales fluff. Plus they are using the H chips now on their Rspec boards last I checked.
I checked out Hygrow a bit. Looks like they have no website, sell only from a FB page and Ebay?
From my perspective he is white labeling the same HLG 550r clones that are sold on Alibaba for $150 less. (I will accept the spin that he doesnt buy them on Alibaba, but they are definitely cloned HLG boards that are made in China.)
The value added is literally that he preassembles them (which most Alibaba sellers will do for free if you ask, so no real value added at all), and ships from the US instead of China.
Did he do those PAR tests himself? Or are they from his board supplier? From most peoples experience on here that I have seen, is you accept when buying from China that you are saving up to 50% off of HLG prices but also accepting that you are not guaranteed top bin diodes. For a lot of people this is fine, but lets not pretend its an apples to apples comparison.
How is a one man operation who acts as a middleman going to handle service requests at the same level as HLG? All while using HLG trademarks in his marketing, as well as selling boards designs they created?
I also see that he doesnt actually claim "made in USA" but rather "assembled and shipped in USA". I still think its misleading bc there are people in his comments saying they bought from him bc they support Made in USA and he is rolling with it.
Overall you came here and asked if you thought these would be good lights to be a reseller of. You got honest feedback and facts. I personally dont see a huge opportunity there, but best wishes and good luck if you decide to go for it.
If his wife is indeed suffering from cancer, I feel for him. Post a Gofundme or something and I will gladly contribute and help them however I can.
So? The eco beats the Alibaba special. What hlg light would you compare it to?

Yeah they are the same the h series is supposed to have higher bins...if Samsung actually made these boards they would use the 301h why would they have the 301h if they didn't use it themselves. To me that pretty much proves these boards are Alibaba

I purchased a HLG and a hygrow this morning. Will be doing a side by side 5x5 tent grow with both. I expect the HLG to perform better but I guarantee you the Hygrow will hold its own.

Educate me. The whole reason I’m here. Why will the HLG do better than the Hygrow / kingbrite / alibaba specials. Is it how the boards are wired ? Amount or diodes / LEDS ?
The bins! lots of people say they have top bin but they don't also diode count. I haven't looked at a data sheet in a while but the difference was alot like 10 percent between some of the bins. So the top bin can have almost 50% more output vs the bottom bin sometimes the top bin availability is really limited.

Whether you will see a difference in performance is a good question. I think a few people have done side by side comparisons before and they came out pretty close.
The difference is HLG contracted directly with Samsung, and have their own production facility in the USA where they make the PCB boards. So they are guaranteeing a higher quality product that has passed QC checks, and they are transparent about the manufacturing process, and components used.
The knockoff clone boards are using an exact replica design for board layout, and they *say* they are using the same diodes, but the reality is that you don't know. If you look into 'binning' they could be the same part number, but a lower grade that didn't make the cut. They have to save some $ somewhere, and if they are dishonest enough to use HLG's brand name and marketing to sell their product, I can pretty much guarantee you they are cheapening out elsewhere. If not the chips themselves, the solder, or some other part.
Let me put it this way. Say I bring my motorcycle to you for service. Sure you can use knockoff non OEM parts to save a few $. They might perform just as well. However if I am spending money and don't want to take short cuts, I am willing to pay the premium for the real thing. Especially if it's something I want to take care of and make last a long time. Non OEM parts might last just as long, but chances are they will fail sooner, and in worst case can cause new problems.
I also asked early on, if you had designed some new better motorcycle component, and put years and lots of $$$$ into getting it to market, and came up with a good name like Sickboy Filters or something. Setup a factory to do production in the USA, and all the tooling required to produce them at scale. And then someone from China came along and copied your design, and then started selling copies for 1/2 price using your name and marketing info. Be honest, would you be cool with this? If not, then why is it cool to do to Stephen from HLG?
