Hydro shop etiquette?

It was kinda funny when I went to my local hydro store for the first time. I'm old, bald, and look like a cop and yes, I talked tomatoes at first. It took a few years before they realized I was just an old MMJ patient shopping for supplies. Now I get discounts and rewards and we talk weed all of the time. I never trust them to tell me the right advise though, they're just a bunch of kids. Never go shopping without knowing exactly what you're after otherwise you'll come home with crap you don't need.

Go into the shop and say you want to grow green tomatoes. If they say "what green tomatoes? What do you mean?" - walk away. If they say "Ah, like that" - stay and let them help.
if u are going to do that might aswell do it right ..........use our codes 420 ..................just say oh i have to be someplace at 420 ....if they are our ppl they will smile or eyes will have a reaction to that if they are strait arrows no reaction

Or maybe, just hear me out, you could not be a retard and try and talk in code <wink><wink>nudge<>nudge. Just tell them you have issues with your tomatoes and all will be fine.

I don't understand why you would want someone to know you grow weed. Common sense says you don't walk into a business running your mouth and dropping cute little hints about illegal shit. Most people don't go into head shops talking about phattie bho dabz for example. You can deal with people with a small amount of professionalism, or handle your business like a stereotypical dumbass stoner. Once you get to know your store owner, then it's kinda up to your own discretion. My personal discretion says "I'm just a hobbyist interested in hydroponics. I may or may not even be growing anything at the moment." Anything beyond that is your own speculation.

I guess it just depends on what you are willing to risk losing, and what you think you have to gain by letting someone (whether a hydro store owner or someone else) in on your secrets. If you tell someone and they get popped for anything serious, your life is in their hands. IMO, the less shit people know about me, the better.

i see u have never had one of those days u think u have gotten some great hook up and then u find out it is something god awlful......ie sister inlaw invites u to a concert u are thinking classic rock cover bands do to what she listens to in the house .....u go and it is classical music by kids one of her friends kids was in and her own was many years ago ..........the only thing going around was WINE amoung some of the mothers (sneak a toke and flask saved me once again)

unless both parties fully understand what u are talking about and dealing with it is a waste of time............u say tomatoes and he hooks u up with something that is great for them but makes buds taste funny ............or tells u to spray poisons on the flowers thinking they are tomatoe skins ....................and as for risk u can only reduce it to the lowest levels possible but by assuming u both are talking about same thing u are risking more damage to your plants your self and the ppl u like by sharing it

oh and by the laws of probility we are all going to get caught at some time or anouther...... law of avg.............their is nothing to do but embrace the fact set up counter measures and retain a lawyer with understanding he/she bails u out ............personal i am judgement proof nothing in my name except debt ............all my extra cash has been covered into silver bars i ordered argh matey .....the old tricks are the best tricks why they have stuck around

You're talking about letting people know you grow weed in one paragraph, and then talk about minimizing risk and setting up countermeasures in another. Anyone else work at that store? Gratz, now 3 people know what you do. Does your hydro guy go home and talk to his wife about his day and who came in? There's another person in the know even if indirectly. Will he hold his customer's information safe from police pressure? Will he keep your information to himself when he gets popped for growing weed and is facing 10 years of prison? Hopefully he doesn't have any info on you in the first place. That's a lot of trust you put in a stranger.

As for "being on the same page", there is no reason to be asking the hydro guy for advice on how to grow weed. Your law of averages work mostly because the average person runs his mouth. Keep doing whatever works for you though.

Not trying to be a dick or anything; just sayin what works for me.

I cant remember one time my mom or grandma were complaining about their tomatoes herbs and peppers smelling lol its honestly kinda weird like i wanna ask next time and just see what bull shit answer i get out of it haha
Oh those? thats for my ummm roses, for when I make po-puri, so the rest of the house doesnt stink. Thats also why I need these scissors and a big curing jar

Hey Everyone!

I recently discovered a hydro shop only 25 minutes from my house. I don't know if it is because of my time on here and browsing online shops, but I got a feeling that they cater to marijuana growing needs(the sell ONA products, a full wall of carbon filters and accessories, and a lot of nutrients notorious for marijuana growing). I am just wondering if there is a way I can figure out if they are cool with people looking for help with growing weed without being a huge sketchball or getting kicked out. Is there a "hey, can you help me grow pot?" etiquette when going into a hydro shop?

Thanks!
First off, don't ever, ever, EVER even IMPLY you're growing weed, I could care less what the rep is of this place. Try to frame your questions in asking about asparagus or spinach or something. Tell them you have an outdoor garden but want to start vegetables to plant in the spring. Again, never, never, NEVER say you are growing weed!!! Ever!!! Even if they KNOW you are growing MJ (which is obvious if you're buying odor control), don't even hint it. Got it? Don't be stupid. :wall:

Jesus fucking Christ, seriously you all have way over thought an incredibly simple thing to the point you should be arrested for being too stupid to walk amongst normals. Every hydro shop, everyone single of them in America, make 80% - 100% of their revenue selling to weed growers. On the rare occasion that someone actually growing hydroponic tomatoes wanders into a hydro store, the employees there think he grows weed. Every employee at every hydro store, thinks that 100% of the customers are growing weed. And all you have to do to never get narc'ed on by your hydro guy, just don't call it weed. And by the way, the chance that anyone from your hydro store would actually call the cops on any customer is pretty slim odds, to the point of being laughably remote.

If you are too dumb to be able to have a conversation and substitute the word tomato where the word weed would normally go, then order your shit online.

That is all.

damn where are u guys on poker night........i can always use some more cash .............i stand by what i said it has worked for me for 11 years no more troubles ......knowing what u are dealing with and who is the always important if u are going to listen to them and modify anything u are doing

he knows what to do in the shop ( just like a bong shop techinally wording not slang) if he is going to buy stuff on the advice of the ppl in the shop then it needs to be tailored to what he needs not what tomatoes need

true u are going to assholes and dickheads that will rat u out to save their own skins but u got that in every part of life .........acting like u are doing something wrong is the number one way to get busted ( 1800 drop a dime on ppl that are doing something ?able on the signs driving down the road) ......if the shop is cool they will stock the top products for this plant and help u tweak the system to get best ..........if they are not then u get told to leave and not wasting time

but untill they see a picture of u doing it is all talk (u standing there in the video look what i made ) ..............................and unless u are talking about eatting someone or doing harm /crazy shit talking was not illegal

Use these two words. "My plants." No more no less. As in, "My plants need good nutes for flowering. What do you recommend?" Or, "My plants are struggling in this heat. Do you sell chillers?" Or, "My plants are asking for Cal-Mag. Gimme some." Why everyone needs to talk about their crop in an illegal state is beyond me. When I sold cars everyone wanted to tell me about every f##king car they ever owned. I don't care. I ride motorcycles. Cars are how I make money for rent. The guy behind the counter at the hydro store is not impressed. Trust me. He makes $8 hr because he needs a job. Not because he wants to make friends with talkative stoners. Ever seen the people that pester the cashier at the convenience store and think they give a shit? They don't. Buy your Marlboros and move on. Or talk away like the homeless loser who thinks the guy at Conoco is a friend of theirs. While you are busy confiding in a poor stranger who is paid to pretend to care, the people behind you are rolling their eyes and hoping you will shut the F- up so they can pay for their purchases.

Hydroponic stores in countries where marijuana cultivation is illegal CANNOT offer advice/sell/liaison with anybody that grows marijuana.
In Australia, it is a 10 year prison sentence if convicted of involvement.
yes, 95% of people who walk in are cannabis growers and they are aware of this, but it must never be spoken.
This is why they ask you to leave immediately should you use the wrong words, as per law.
Replace the word 'bud' with 'flower' or 'fruit'... never use the word 'smoke' and if you are referring to 'resin' or 'bud booster' ... just say you want to add more 'weight to you're fruit'

If possible, never park directly outside a store. Many shoppers are 'tagged' by the police who photograph number plates and faces of people that walk in from time to time.
Park around the corner, and without sounding paranoid, always watch you're back. Making minimal trips to the store also helps.
Commercial growers of produce don't use little boutique hydro stores.
Follow this rule and keep yourself and your store out of trouble ;)

Cheers Jimmy.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Just to be clear, I never planned on trying to make it known to them what I am doing. I am smarter than that to break rule #1. I just meant that since it's pretty obvious what a person in their 20s is in a hydro shop for, how do I make a sketchy situation less sketchy while getting what I need.

You've all been very helpful!

hate going to a hydro store if they get busted for something and you bought 30 bags of dirt and used plastic for the purchase well not good. Plus your automobile becomes a target for every cop around.

I used to work at a hydrofarm retail store and my boss was telling one day that hydrofarm had sent in a secret shopper to the store across the way . The shopper had asked advise on how to grow weed the store gave him advice and had lost there account my boss was really happy about this because we became the only store for a 20 mile stretch . But he was on are Ass if anybody mentioned weed , medical weed , legal weed anything we had to ask them to leave . Are boss even hung a sign on the window that we don't sale things to grow Federally illegal plants . didn't change much are customers learned to call them tomatoes or just there plants and we could give advise all day but no words " like bong " so to speak . I kinda miss working in a store . IT was like that old Jonney cash song One piece at a time .
