Indeed, reproduction of sunlight is, in my opinion, really where it's at, because it seems that every time we try to say some organism or another doesn't "need" something, it seems that they do. Maybe not directly, but still an issue.

Yea, so to do that, they make a mixture that has a proportional probability to its peak wavelength of emmiting light at wavelenths across the spectrum (probability is what makes the spike high).. Actually though, the way those graphs are done, its likely a grouped summation.. Like say there are 2 nearby transitions at 470nm and 471nm that are both about 50% as likely as one single transition at 600nm.. The graph would probably show equally intense thin spikes at both these regions..
