There is a big diff in intensity between a 250 and a 400...

If you can vent it.. go big...

Our spaces are about the same, mine is a bit smaller I think.... and I am going with a 600...

2 x 250 can't give you the same intensity as a 400... it's like it's cloudy...

Go big on the light and go big on the ventilation....

Chances are you will upgrade... how many steps do you want to take???

If I want to expand, I'm all set... and for a small set up, I have a box on steroids...

yea, I already bought the 400 light and the homebox is on the way. I really don't feel like returning the light and having to get the 250, since that would mean 40 more dollars in shipping costs. But I also don't want to burn my house down when I'm not around. I don't have a cooltube tho, which was probly a bad decision. Instead of the cool tube could I just put a fan in the box and aim it at the light, as well as a 4" intake and a 6 " outtake? Thanks, I really appreciate the help.

What is the box made of? If you have something that will let heat escape , or have your exhaust fan directly above the light, you might be able to get away with it. Whatever amount of air you think you should be moving, aim for double that. The more air you circulate through, the cooler it will stay.

Bud, I suppose you could, but I am not sure you will be able to control the temps... it's possible, but hard to tell.... they get hot... that's why I say you need it...

Just get a cool tube and a strong fan... you'll be able to get the light very close to your plants... both you and them will like that... it means more better buds... lol... and it will be cool in there... bright... but cool

I think the homebox he is referring to is a grow tent... plastic or plastic lined nylon...

I agree on super ventilating... especially when superlighting... as this is the case...

my thoughts...

Here is what I am working with homebox.net.

Also, where I live gets very cold in the winter, so i suppose if i closed the heat vent in the bedroom, my temperature in the room would get a lot cooler which could help a bit. Or should I just return my light and go with a 250? Thanks a lot.

Oh I would keep it... and love it....

It's just you are going to have to fiddle with the vent system, and eventually upgrade the fans...

What I suggest is...

Instead of upgrading 3 or 4 times... just buy the cool tube and fan, and then your current vent system will suffice....

You can try different things, and some may work... but eventually you are going to get tired of messing with it....

Now, for this winter, you can certainly introduce some cold air to help you control it, but then again, how much messing around do you want to do...

If you can, or when you can, buy the right tools... they will pay for themselves.... you got it going... just missing a few pieces...

With that said, I would fiddle for 100 years before I switched from a 400 to a 250... lol...

Just the thoughts in my head man... and I am no pro... check with the experienced growers man, they will have sound advice...

Thanks...

Keep the 400... Keep the 400... Keep the 400... Keep the 400... :o

Take a peek at this..

High Tech Garden Supply

36x20x64 being sold as a kit with a 400... and they claim ..."THIS UNIT ALLOWS YOU TO COMPLETELY CONTROL YOUR INDOOR GROWING ENVIRONMENT FOR INCREASED YIELDS !!..."

So I would say you should be able to do it man...

If not, they would not sell it as a kit... too many people would have trouble...

Good Luck...

All you have to wire up is the plug that goes into the wall. The light you buy comes with 3 wires sticking out of it. You can use any three prong electrical cord for it. A 3 prong electrical cord also uses three wires. You simply match the colors of the wires, solder them together (or twist together and tape up), and youre good to go. Couldnt be simpler.
where 2 get the 3 prong??? thanks alot have you purchased this item?

I bought two.

As for a 3 prong cord, you can get it anywhere. An old laptop charger, an extension cord, literally ANYTHING with a three prong plug can be cut, spliced, and used with this HPS light. I'm using the end of a laptop charger, and the cord from a stereo that no longer works.

The worst you could do is hook it up, and if its wrong, it wont work. If it doesnt work, unplug it, and re-do it. Its really not that hard. It wont blow up or zap you or anything as long as you do the wiring work with it NOT plugged in, and make sure you cover all of your wires before you do plug it in. Wrap each wire where you spliced with electrical tape individually, then wrap all three together with electrical tape.

Ive done this with things that run much more current than a 150w hps, and its never been an issue. Soldering, or using wire nuts would be the "non ghetto" way, but lots of times i have just twisted wires together and taped them up, and Ive never had an issue. (and I did it on a 440v Millermatic Welder).
