HpLVD and plastic pots/containers

Hey so I got HpLVD on cuts I got from Maine a few years ago, few of you probably remember. It was even before HpLVD was really being talked about but there was some chatter about this virus being present in MJ. Anyways these cuts were awful...few strains just completely dudded out in flower...I chopped some of the strains down at like day 40 and tossed them-up u til then I never saw anything like this before. I told the ladies I got the cuts from they had some sorry of virus going on but they just played it off as funky, finicky phenos. The other ones that were infected but not as bad as the worst ones, grew very strange- total lack of vertical growth and once they where throwing some bud and colas where getting heavy the branches would snap with the slightest bump- again never seen anything like this.

Anyways glad all that shit is over, I disinfect everything with bleach now all the time-I go thru so much bleach...but one thing I somewhat forgot has to do the virus can spreading thru plastic planting pots/containers that an infected plant was in?? Reason I ask is I recently reused some of the small square plastic pots that some of the infected cuts might or might not have been grown in, however briefly. They are these really nice hard plastic square pots for seedling plants and verggig plants. I recently cleaned these square pots with soap and very hot water but now that I have my seedling plants in some of these pots and researching how the virus can be passed thru the roots it made me wonder and worry. I didn't even think of it because I only use small square plastic pots for a few weeks thenawalyas transplant into cheap amazon 5 gal fabric pot.

So I have very young just germ'd seed plants in these small plastic pots, even though I cleaned them very well but without bleach would I still be risking transferring HpLVD just from the plastic on the pots I'm using? If so I would probably get my seed plants out of these pots and transplant them since they don't have huge root systems, also they beans where very pricey, lit farms 8" bagel(gmo x project 4516) a friend bought me them to run. I tossed out the rest of the small plastic containers that had any of the infected clones in them from years ago so just wondering how easy the chances are of spreading hop latent thru just a plastic pot??

How long ago did you have the infected cuts in those pots? Honestly, I think you're fine having just washed them with soap and water. I don't think the viroid lasts very long on hard surfaces.

Tumi is saying viroids remain infectious on common surfaces for 24 hours, 7 weeks in water, and for months to years in dried plant debris and seeds.

Ya the infected cuts were in these plastic pots well over a year ago, then the pladtic pot where just sitting there unused around a year plus...I just washed them the other day and threw the seed plants in them, so ya your probably right...there's just so much different info and disinformation about HpLVD out there- just wanted to make sure, I'm super paranoid about it now.

I always used iso to clean my shears. Now I learn that you must use bleach to kill this virus. I'm wondering if you could use Barbicide (fungicide) in a container just like a barber to disinfect there shears between customers. It is designed for soaking shears and keeps them from rusting.
Does anyone know if this would kill this virus?

Honestly Di, you're probably fine, but if it were me, I'd pull those seedlings out and get them into clean pots. Then I'd dip those old pots in a bleach, Physan, or Zerotol solution. I'd replace all the fabric pots too.
Probably sounds like overkill, but after losing some of my favorite cuts, plus the intense labor of cleaning up the grow, I wouldnt chance it.

Because Barbasol has other shit in, I wouldn't do that. Stick with using it to disinfect your hair or beard cutting shears.

Ya dude I throw all my fabric pots out after each run....once plants are chopped the fabric pots are thrown in trash. For instance I have 15- 5 gal fabric pots full of used promox from a a run I just did. My buddy is putting the used promix in his house garden and the fabric pots will be tossed out. I basically just transplant once....once I germinate my beans they got into small to medium size plastic pots, usually the square ones. After some solid root growth and plants have been verging a while so they have about 4 nodes I transplant into their final home of 5 gal fabric pots and that's it.

This is why I always buy the Amazon cheapie fabric pots....and honestly the Amazon off brand fabric pots are just as good if not better than the expensive brands like smart pots.

And I know what your saying Tang, all this cleaning we do now with the bleach is so time consuming. I spend hours each week or 2 throughly bleach cleaning snips, veg area...I even use a bleach mixed with hot water solution to wipe down my heavy duty plastic plant stakes.

Fuck HpLVD...feel I have ptsd from getting infected cuts a while back. Hopefully never again, knock on wood.
