How Would I Start A Hotdog Cart?

I understand the overhead and whatnot . I'm sure most people on here are business minded people .

what im curious about it , do I have to register the business somewhere ? I would assume so . how would I go about doing that ? (in ontario)

get a bit of marketing involved

You will definitely need a license, maybe both a business and a vendors.... The gov always wants your money. Go to or call the city hall
or registries, they will tell you all you need to know.

Alternatively you could run male hookers out of a van, I think that would qualify as a hotdog cart also, and no license required....lol...JK

loool . I understand the whole hotdog part -rolls eyes- . probably gonna be like 1,500 for the cart + supplies + someone working . do vendors licenses cost money to apply ? also opinion , hotdogs or ice cream ? Im actually thinking icecream now . possibly both though .

Think of what your customers want...

Hot summer day normally = icecream but lunch = hotdog and or burger

Keep your customers enticed, add some pop and bottled water in there and you should be good.

Each license will cost you money but it should not be too much in comparison to potential profit, just be sure to pick
a high traffic area and dont move it. If people know you are there and you supply a good service you should do Ok.

I own a business and in my area because it is a local bus I dont need a permit, but most if not all cities will require a permit especially if you
are selling food.

I recently talked to a hotdog cart vendor and he said buisness is actually very well for him.He said he lives comfortably.You should sell water ice fuck ice cream.Get a bunch of other hot foods also,all the other bullshit kids buy like candy and shit.

it's pretty hard to fuck up ice cream. but some of the crap i've been served from hotdog stands and carts etc, eurgh!!!! i have to add buckets of mustard just to not taste the thing

after your plan passes that test I would rent a hot dog stand to see if you can actullay make the number of sales you require in the location you have chosen you know. make sure you gonna make bank before risking your cash


also you could throw in really good dogs like brats and stuff like that for your more avid weiner eater


also keep in mind many peeps are trying to eat right, you can offer water bottles and maybe tofurky dogs



my problem with the plan is thinking man how many hot dogs would you have to sell to purchase a new car


the most costly and item the less sales you need to make bank


ie profit on a hotdog 0.50 cents


profit on a house $5,000


you sell 6 houses a year you get 30K

you sell 60,000 hot dogs you get 30K

Dude, why not have both or more? The more potential customers, the more business. Since you're going to be in areas with pretty decent foot traffic, there's going to be more food options around them that they will take if you don't have what they want. Incorporate chips, candy, ice cream, dogs or whatever. Don't forget condiments. The only real advantage is the low prices and instant gratification so capitalize off of that.

I do construction .
so I have nice flow of income .
if I honestly make 40 profit each week .
ill be happy . its 40 bucks I wouldnt have otherwise .

Go for a niche...like you said Ontario...right? The best hot dogs in the world are Chicago style. Have a Chicago style hotdog cart in Ontario. You can get the recipe for Chicago style off the net...hell I make them at home...it's not rocket science. But DAAAAAAMN a Chicago dawg actually feels like a meal.

The hot dog cart vendor I talk to is out front of a hospital and theres always huge lines there.I think its really all about location.

you would need a vendors license as well as a license to sell food to the public. in the states this consists of being inspected by the local food inspector as well as having a current either ServeSafe or state food handelers card. I would also reccomend selling beverages as well. that sounds like a good idea Im am glad to finally be out of food service I am tired of cooking what other people want me to cook.
