yeah no probs VO im honoured. my first sticky :) to answer ur question easiest way to drain is to fit a tap some sort of valve at the bottom of the res or one of yor plant sites. i only change my solution if theres a problem or every 3 weeks or so. with this sytem i hooked my 19mm tubing onto a longer piece and drained into my toilet then aqua vac'd the rest then bubbled my bath fuull of water over night and put my pump in there to refil my system and then added nutes with pump on to mix. easy meat my friend and great results the veg is unmatched. check this baby out in rdwc.....agent orange by subcool. not even payed it much attention its the DO making the plant explode!!

agent O

kalischnapple

and heres the beaut fo RDWC with no airstones. u have a waterfall in ur main res (which i didnt in this systems how to or grow i done with it) but now i swear by it.

then one of these in each plant site carrying the masses of DO created by the powerfull waterfalls in each sit around the system. it all runs off one pump. simples!!!

plant site. with the roots basking in the 50L of DO and nute enriched solution!!

Squid,

whats the reason for the waterfall in the main rez?

And is the waterfall in the main rez being run by its own pump, because i don't see anything above it for the plant containers?

I don't get whats going on in your last pic at all?

more pics and better explanation, especially on drain in each containers...

I was goign to built this tom., but after the updates, i am a bit confused.....

the reason for the waterfall in the main res is that so when it recirculates its carrying the fresh DO round the system, heres myine u can see a simple T off the pump lins and a elbow on that pointing into the res has sufficed....

and heres heaths auto cads theyl help alot....

and the way this system was set up

and my drawing i done ignore pipe sizes as i changed them

hope thats helped

So you dont have a pump to return your solution? Not hating cause it still looks awesome, but thats not an undercurrent since youre not actually creating any current; its rdwc with a waterfall attachment.

Where'd you get those buckets?

yup they way i have shown is but if u read the first page ul see how to set up for the undercurrent way with the 19mm outlet clamp. then u can appologise ;) and google 30L autopot res u should find the buckets but tbh mate i use really usefull boxes now come in all shapes and sizes and have snap shut handled lids!!

i find rdwc with waterfall alot better/easier/more efficient than undercurrent, pretty much same results but UC more hassle imo

the above drawings were to answer oceangreens Qs

Ahh touche good sir...I saw that before I figured out the waterfall setup n then forgot about it I think haha.

Those useful boxes look pretty sweet, the other ones are pretty expensive. Good lookin out man. I gotta ask though, as I'm in the process of building my own undercurrent, what hassle you found with it? It seems like all you're saving yourself is a single water line and pump. Ive never run an undercurrent though so I'm not really too sure if its different to deal with. Setup-wise I'm confident, I have no issues with diy projects, but the growing aspect seems like a whole other world from some of what I've read. Either way, I'm psyched for the summer to be over so I can get it up and running.

:leaf: +rep for a nice build by the way

yeah the RUB's are cheaper and better imo and more versatile for sure, the only diff is ul have air stones and a stronger current more equiptment etc the to methods are near identitacal with the only diff being RDWC pushes nutes about and UC pulls the nutes.

a pump in each container for waterfall? that's gotta heat things up.
yeah it certainly would but thats not what happens or has been suggested or is in any drawing mate i think u may be getting confused it all runs off one pump!!!

edit: i think i see ur confusion in the drawings thats for one plant grow u just add bigger pump more feed line etc per plant site if i can explain it better let me no mate or if ive missed the point copletely also let me know lol

true that my friend temp control in res and DO is the most important thing in DWC i cant stress that enough its the golden rules people say it can kill a crop in days etc etc yes but not if u keep temps at 19deg ish in res and have plenty of DO in there theyl thrive no matter what u throw at them....
Where did you get the 1.5" rubber grommets?
hey mate sorry on late reply ther called uniseals i got them from a USA company called aquatic eco google them, there very cheap and do not leak at all, make sure seal them up good mate and there leak free they can take a knock as well and not leak. if u are in the UK they may take a while so order double what u need incase u build another system or whatever.mine took 2 months and a guy i taught to build this on another forum they took 15 weeks :0 crazy us customs!!

i didn't quite understand o_O you saying that you dont need a air pump in rdwc?
can you give me some tips for building this kind of system( such as what to use and what not to). it will be perfect if you can draw for us complate scheme of the system :)

what do u mean by scheme? like a auto cad?
te dos and donts are in the grow threads my friend study them well

keep ur res temps at 19deg or as close to and make sure there is plenty DO in there

u can get oxygen in the water woth no air pumps by using flume or waterfall mate air pumps n stones do not add DO through the air they pump in its the bubbles bursting on the surface and aggitating it that allows gas exchange so a waterfall can get the same job done less equip more efficent etc

this is the 2 ways i do it......courtesy of heath robinson

im using the second one for this new system and there working well to produce these.........

he refers to a water/aqua farm in the drawings in any dwc there is a inner bucket or net pot or container full of medium (clay balls usualy) and ur res (outer bucket) were the roots grow in and feed your plant, hope that helps!!
