I had 2 pulled a couple years ago. I was under and didn't feel a thing. I don't think pain meds are essential for afterwards, I wasn't in too much pain after. I wouldn't have done it if I had to be awake. I hate dental work. Have you asked if there is a different sedative they can use?

I got all 4 of mine extracted at the same time about 6 years ago. They gassed me up, and it was not bad at all. They gave me a script of vicodin but I didn't use it because opiates make me very sick, the pain was not really that bad, just sore really. But really for what you're getting done I would try to conquer the fear of the gas.

Yeahh from what I'm reading I'm just gonna suck it up and do it. I'll be proud of myself if I can. Thanks for the 411 guys. I AM gonna take the xanax though deffinedly. Because I Never had an addiction to xanax and it's about the only way I can imagine myself sitting there through this....

As for the pain pills afterwards.....fuck that....I'll just take ibprofen and naloxen. Very underrated for pain deffinedly.

You should get it done.
That being said.....

My wisdom teeth had spiral roots all entwined. I also have an EXTREMELY high drug tolerance. I got the gas, but I remember waking up to the most excruciating pain....it felt like the dentist was kneeling on the side of my head while someone was tearing my jaw out.
I remember hearing...."he's waking up" I remember groaning like WTF!!!!

Then I woke up and it was all done. I asked the nurse what happened and it felt like the dentist was kneeling on my face.

She says....."he was, you wisdom teeth roots were so tangled, he had to turn your head sideways, put his knee on the side of your face, to get the leverage to pull the teeth."
Maybe not word for word, but the general idea (many years ago)

I kept the teeth in a little specimen jar.....and you could see big chunks of jaw meat all tangled in the spiralled roots. I still have large, empty pits where they were. So much meat came out, they never fully fillled back in with tissue.

That's actually the second time I have woken up in surgery. Once during my knee surgery. High drug tolerance seems to run in my family, so I got them to make sure it wouldn't happen when I just got my hernia fixed.

So.....ya gonna go get it done now?.....LOL

To hell with that! I always wondered if the dentist basically just uses "plyers" and yanks them out.

I still have all my wisdom teeth.

Yup....that is pretty much what they used on me. Just a lot fancier looking, surgical grade. I was in serious pain for many days after mine...but as I wrote earlier, it wasn't your typical wisdom tooth extraction.

He literally had to get something in there and pry/lever mine out while crushing my face.

Still, I think 80 should get it done. A few days of discomfort.....then relief.

Hey :)

heres something that might help you thru ....I have used it to help a few people in your situation..and its really simple .

It's the fear of the thing that has you ... The fear of something is ALLWAYS way harder to deal with than the thing it's self , Your imagination is a very powerful thing and you can tell yourself and convince yourself it's going to be hell ... but when you do it you will see that the fear if it was worse than having it done .

for an example ... try and think of something that you dreaded having to do .... and then you did it and thought " hey i thought this would have been worse "

the fear of the pain is way worse than the actual pain !

So go for it bud ..I'm proud of you and i'm sure they will do all they can to make you as comfy and pain free as they can .... they will no doubt use all the expencive shit ..seeing as your paying for it :)

Good luck man :)

The problem here is I JUST got off of being addicted to pain killers so I don't wanna take them =/

And I can't do the gas thing either...just cant.
Just be glad you were born in the day and age you were.... Novocain hasn't been around forever, neither have good dentists. So, just do it.

If fuckin felt like it was for a while. Hard to eat anything solid. Dentist said he sees it quite often, but usually only one, maybe 2 wisdom teeth. Every one of mine were twisted to some degree. One looked like someone melted it then spun the roots like a spiral. It was a nasty looking specimen jar. I ended up throwing it out. All that pale, dead jaw meat just hangin out in whatever the solvent was they put in the jar, staring at me from the shelf in my room........lol

No one I know has had nearly that much difficulty though. Most people are OK in a day or 3. Better to just get it over with if need be.

You have to get the nitrous. That is the shit. I felt like I was floating on a cloud. With the gas and injections, I hardly felt anything. I did hear a lot of teeth being broken though lol. And I got the LOAD of oxys.

i've had at least 6 root canals. they give you a local in your gums. then a couple codeine to take for 3 days. it's a minor procedure. you really have nothing to worry about.

edit:

you said wisdom teeth. ;)

i've had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed, along with a few molars. it's a minor procedure. mine was all done with a local to the gums. you should be fine. :)
