How much does genetics really matter for seeds? How much of it is a scam?

When you smoke weed ...you know what weed smokers want...
Day time function
Night time day wrecker
No tolerance
Exactly. Smoking the same stuff for a week straight. Wake up smoke stay high for 2 hours. Smoke again, stay high for another hour. Do that all day, each bowl keeps you stoned again for another hour. It takes good weed to be able to do that and not build a tolerance.

It takes a real stoner to select the keeper pheno...
It takes real skill to collect that pheno an send it to the masses.

That's where a lot of people get stuck...distribution

I'm looking at the aspect of uniformity in a pack of seeds, something that seems to have been lost over the years of breeding one poly hybrid to another . Chasing clones is a crap shoot . A "fire" strain with stabilized genetics would be a boon to the homegrower .

This link explains some of what I'm thinking...

Seed was made available to the masses mid 80s. I believe that looking back that the dilution started by the mid 90s. Those years were the the Golden years.

I saw a pack of Casey Jones on strainly, 150$
Better grab it it's the only one there...

Seeds in the 2000-2010 were very stabilized, breeders knew the market worldwide is still small and if they didn't do their job right or applied some kind of fuckery, the results would spread fast among the small tight growing community and that breeder would be out of the game very fast.
Fast forward to more current times, weed is more legal in more places, seeds, in general, fire or not, is in high demand...
Breeders started noticing even their pollen chucks and testers are selling fast for high amounts, those breeders knew, more than 70% give or take are new smokers and growers that have no clue about dope, no clue on what defines a good strain or a good seed line (consisty mainly)
They only have a clue if the picture is nice and it smells kinda appealing...
This opened Pandora box, as free money is the root of all evil, they keep making it, why stop ?
I never never saw a breeder tell growers to pheno hunt lol
In the good times breeders did the work, stabilized their seeds so the growers would buy and get what is described and what they smoke somewhere before buying those seeds
When you see a breeder like Bodhi let's say, cross famous cuts with unknown males, his packs are hit or miss, mostly miss.
But people take him in high regard...
That's when you know the game is truly only for the quick money grab, nothing more.
You want results on your first grow ?
Go smoke a bud you consider good somewhere and hope there's seeds in there, grow those seeds and pick the best, repeat.
Guaranteed results.

Agreed yield is down to genetics sure you need the right environment and care it goes without saying but somethings just yield others dont it is the genetics that cap that before environmental conditions nutrition etc ever limit anything imo

Big yield doesn't mean big high though. Small yield could be big high just as much. Can't grow just on yield unless you are a dispensary producer

As a seller of bud...
I can tell you ...selling bulks of so-so bud is the worse.

People always buy that first offering but they think about the second.

With FIRE, People don't think...
They look. They smell. They buy as much as they can.
Then, they call back. They hunt for you. They wait.

It's just finding that FIRE.
It's tough when you have turkey bags upon bags of bags to pick from. 1000 names & bag appeals.
That 1600 has to turn into 3200

It's only sticky icky for so long

I was talking about the genetics its the same plant just genes produce different stuff.this year it was 15% but everybody loves it.last year it was 32%. One was eating 800ppms other 120ppm
Realize my friend, THC means absolutely nothing.

The only thing that means something, is putting the bud in a joint or bong whatever you like and hit it.
THC, CBN, CBD, all can be faked, all can be prior to destructive treatments, all can be present without the other that makes them work etc etc
In that reckoning, smoke is the only test that counts.

I grew a cherry wine cbd plant...that was super sweet smelling but would NOT get you high...
It did the opposite --if you were high it made you sober.

Shit was amazing....sky high then not
They should give cbd to greenout victims at the hospital.

Just as a reference if it helps anybody,
The last 2 years I've grown more than 200 seeds from at least 4-5 known breeders maybe more, sure they weren't the top top breeders but known breeders.
I Got only 1 kinda good nothing special pheno outta all of that, really.
Now, 4 months ago I got some outdoor bud the Arabs here grow, wasn't special because the flowers were harvested at April so kinda winter grow..
Anyways, I sifted some buds to get a more true feel of the effect behind that weed as the flowers were low on resin on their own
I was surprised, it actually was kinda nice, and I'm a heavy heavy more than 20 years of purple zombie kush smoker haha
I got some seeds from that bud so I put 40 of them and got 6 fems
Outta the 6 fems 2 were crazy !
Took me back to 2005 haha
Needless to say I got the highest price Ive got in the last 5 years for that bud...

What am I trying to say here...
In the old pheno hunts people went everywhere, smoked plants outdoor in India, Pakistan, marocoo, everywhere.. they filtered the best and took their seeds home to work on and create stabilized lines.
We seed buyers don't use or have that luxury, we are 100% dependent on breeders and seed sellers fullfiling their words and claims in order to get to a worthy finished product.
That was exactly the case in 2000-2018, in 2005 I grew 5 cheese seeds I bought in AMS and they all came out THE SAME.
Same smoke, same looks, even same like the mother they came from (I know cuz I smoked it in ams before and after that)
What has changed ?
At least the pheno variation is forgiving, I can accept that, but no matter where my pheno drifts in those breeder pack, the end product is not good.
Wtf ? The only conclusion, is either
A. The mother/mothers (if it's fem seeds) are not fire, end of story.
B. The mother/s are fire but it's an F1 and not a worked line to create consistent good smoke traits phenos, aka pollen chuck aka hit or miss
C. Reg seeds... Miss or miss, aka easier pollen chuck, you need to work the line harder with male breeding, but they sell again F1s, all bets are off.
Happy hunting !
