mccain was not incompetent, he had no support from the base, and no appeal to the right leaning independents, his record of being the guy the dems could count on to "compromise" on anything they wanted made him unacceptable for the hardline right, an unpalatable choice for the "moderates" and BHO was already the best candidate for all the leftists.

fred thompson would have mopped up the floor with BHO, as would alan keyes, and a half dozen other conservative candidates of note, while johm mccain was a half measure of lliberalism competing against a propper dose of marxism.

yeah i still got your slot saved, even if you are a silly commie. i actually LIKE communists. they share, and dont demand anything other than equal sharitude. a communist can live with sharing food, ammunition, weapons and whatnot, and still be ok with a guy who insists on having his own personal shoes (size 15EEEE boots aint easy to find even now, much less when zombies eat all the shoemakers...) i never met a real communist who objected to certain limits on sharing as long as those limits went both ways. if i got the last packet of instant coffe and he has the last packet of sugar i will totally share and share alike, but if he wont share that last sugar packet he wouldnt expect me to cough up half my last cuppa joe.

its not a bunker, i got 3 places marked out depending on the sitch.

zombie apocalypse: a library in a small town that used to be a fallout shelter and can be easily made defensible, close to water and in a place the average city cats would never even consider building their fortress. gimme 2 days and its a fortress with only a 30 foot long concrete bridge to the third floor for access, and a huge kill zone on the other side of the bridge.

collapse of society due to disease/nukes/economic meltdown: a little box canyon with shear cliffs on the outward sides, and talas slopes to the inward, only one way in or out, good bottom land on the valley floor, and a sizeable natural spring. big enough to support a small town of around 75-100

4 more years of Obama: theres an island i got my eye on. its technically US territory but nobody goes there and its not on most charts. fresh water, a small grove of trees and sufficient room for a gilligan's island style cluster of hooches (dibs on ginger)

I concur. McCain was too far to the left to get out even the near right, let alone the far right. He could have defeated Obama if he didn't try to be the "nice guy" and remain silent about Obama's extreme leftist background. We seem to have the same "centrist" choice once again. The result may be different this time around, Obama is unlikely to get anywhere near the turn out this year. The Right is energized to defeat Obama. People don't seem to realize that the biggest factor in an election is whether your "supporters" actually take the time to vote. The number of Democrats outweighs the number of Republicans, but they don't win that many elections.
