How long should I Veg?

This is my first grow so to get the general hang of it I'm starting with just one. Anyway I'm looking for 8oz-1lb per plant and I need to know how long I should veg for. I'll be using a 3x3 tent, 600w HID, hobbyist/expert bundle (advanced nutes), bud factor x, bud ignitor, 3 part base (AN) and my final container is a 3 gallon pot. Growing medium is a 50/50 peat moss/perlite mix. I'll start veg once the seedling gets 4 sets of leaves, so until then I'm only giving it the 3 part base and the root enhancers. I was planning on a 4 week veg but what would you all recommend?

For an 8oz-1lb plant grown in soil, you will need a longer veg time than four weeks. You can LST / SCROG all you want, but you will run out of room width wise (3x3) once your plant starts to flower and stretch. How tall is your tent?

It's 6' tall, but I was planning on just training no SCROG or anything, how long would you recommend veg for?

I'd recommend around 50 days or so. Honestly, your final yield can't really be estimated. Too many variables come in to play. The people you see who estimate their own crops normally have everything dialed in with there grows. It just takes some trial and error. I wouldn't be too disappointed, but i'd make your first grow goals realistic.

your gonna want to have a pretty long veg in my opinion. what kind of peat moss are you using? peat moss that isnt buffered is extremely acidic.

Veg as long as it takes to fill out your space laterally then flower and let them go vertical. exactly how long that takes would require a multi part formula of variables that would take as long as the grow itself to figure out. I'd estimate at least 2 months to get a good canopy cut that in half with every plant you ad. Why not go for 2~4 in that space? Are you growing from reg seed, fem seed or clone? If from reg seed, what if your one plant is male. Then it don't Matter how long you veg.

They're feminized seeds, I have 3 Great White Shark seeds for my next grow and the Critical + was my free seed. I'd like to get 4 plants in there of a different strain each when I actually learn what I'm doing (compared to just reading the books). Do you FIMM or top your plants or do you use another method? I'd like to FIMM when I can, and then lollipop them when they get bushy and the bottom leaves don't do anything.

It's critical + (big bud x skunk I believe) I wanted 5 gallon but the Home Depot I went to only had them in 3.
Just get regular 5 gal buckets. They should have those. I never seen a home depot run out of Orange buckets. Your not going to get a pound out of 3 gals of miracle grow... Ain't happening simple as that. You need to get away from that idea as soon as possible. I'd personally go with 4 plants in 5 gal regular cheap buckets. Just don't forget to drill some holes in the bottom for drainage.

I'd say this isn't like a recipe or a DIY get a bunch of weed kit with a full set of instructions of guarantees, It's cool to do just one plant to start learning but to expect a pound from one plant on the first run I think is a little much, no matter what the setup, You'll run into mistakes and stuff, plus, if the one plant hermies, even if you do get a pound it won't be a great pound. Rather than it being like a recipe I'd say it's more like painting. If you do a whole lot of learning before even picking up a brush you have an edge over someone who just sits down and starts painting, but no matter how much learning you do, or how expensive your paint is, or how many different kinds of paint you have, even if you have all the right materials to create a masterpiece, you'll be left in the dust by someone who has already painted a few paintings. There's no formula of wattages and products that can guarantee certain weights, even if you're running a very well known strain, it's all just guesses, where your skill level and luck are big variables.
Of course, I've only had two harvests this year, so if any more experienced gardeners wish to correct me, I'd take what they say into account more than what I say.
If I were you and I wanted to give myself the best chance at a pound with the equipment you have, I would either grow 3-4 plants in 10 gallon (fabric or air-pruning) pots, or I'd grow one plant with a lot of LST with like 60 days of veg in a 15 gallon pot

yup, 4 plants, 5 gallon pots, 2 ounces good dried and cured buds each is half a pound. thats realistic.

I don't understand how the brand of medium makes any difference, like if I bought Scott's over Miracle Grow.

The rule of thumb is 2/3...plants will grow another 30% larger during flowering so flip them when they are about 2/3 as large as you want them to be.
Your mix can make a lot of difference but you won't find much that is formulated for mj at lowes or Home Depot. Brand name is not as important as what's in it.

I just ordered 5 gallon pots, I know it's dumb to say but I have
Your right it doesn't really matter what soil you use, your going to need more then 3 gals for your goals.
Ohhh, my mistake. I thought you meant the brand was a limiting factor.

I mistook you, my mistake. Well in the space I have would you say 2 10 gallon pots with a 60 day veg is enough to fill the room tent?

I don't think that's dumb at all... I think I actually suggested it haha.
I'd say you should have about 20 gals of soil no matter how you slice it... 4 5gals 2 10 gals 10 2 gals. You picking up what I'm putting down?

Further more I'd estimate these veg time's for your room and goals...
1 plant 2 to 3 month veg
2 plants 1.5 to 2 months veg
4 plants 1 to 1.5 months veg
6 to 10 plants little to know veg

I gotcha hombre, I actually was typing about my weird problem. Using 5 gallon buckets as planters doesn't look right to me so I can't use them, it's dumb as shit but it's how my brain is. I'm just trying to get everything ironed out before I start so I can cut back on some variables. Is 9 square feet enough for the canopy of two 10 gallon plants? How often do you lollipop plants? How many times can I FIMM in 60 days? My last question is do I still water until it starts to drain if the root mass is no where near the bottom, like if I were to transplant straight from seedling pot (4") to a 5-10 gallon?
