How Did You Get Your Nym

Anyone want to explain how they came up with the nym they use here on RIU? How long have you used it, do people in other forums have the nym you use here, etc.

I got my nym from a 1990 movie called Pump Up The Volume. A character played by Christian Slater sets up a pirate radio station and uses the fake mail drop with the name Charles U. Farley. When the cops try to track him down, they realize that Chuck U. Farley is a play on the term fuck you Charlie. The name was first used and actually dates back to the National Lampoon Yearbook Edition 1964, I think.

I've been using this nym since the mid '90s on Usenet, when security was a hell of a lot higher priority than it is now. A lot of other people use this nym, even in other cannabis fora, but it's usually pretty obvious that _I'm_ the real Charles U. Farley. :D

So sorry, great grandpa is showing his ancient age! It's the fake name you use here on RIU.

Nym is an "anonymous name" that was originally used a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.:o

You're nym is pretty self-explanatory but I'm not sure about shrinkerman above. :-)

When I joined here, in more innocent times, I was an avid golfer with an embarassing swing flaw that led me to SHANK the ball with embarassing frequency, much to the amusement of my playing partners, who began to call me the shanker man. In a spirit of stoned self mockery I deleted the vowels and the rest is history.

How old are you, Chuck
68

Here since 2008... respect for staying at it that long, you must be a very patient person. Not familiar with the avatar pic, what is it?

I changed mine from a bud shot to a drunk and disorderly Barny the Dinosaur because I was getting the hell beat out of me by a bunch of millennials when I decided to become active here on RIU.

I've liked the show Thundercats since I was a kid. When I became a teenager I started using that as my online name for various gaming and other accounts. A couple years later after I started smoking I transitioned to using Tcat420 for all my gaming. It was after that point that I signed up on here, but I can't remember right now why I didn't use the Tcat name on here. Maybe I was afraid of someone connecting the dots and track me down, lol seems really silly now so many years later and living in a legal grow state at this point.

When it wasn't legal, that was a very prudent security move.

I can only dream of the day I can actually grow outdoors like I did in the 80s, only this time without being paranoid of helicopters and Operation Green Merchant. But given my state in the southeast U.S., I'll probably die before that's going to happen.

You have the best grow journal title of all time, from which I learned a lot!
