You seriously gonna take that chance? Who breaks into an occupied home for food? Seems to me someone would be better off taking down a grocery store if all they want is cash and food, certainly no guns carried in grocery stores, much safer than the probability that home owner has a gun. I wouldn't put faith in the perps always being stupid.

(I am assuming you have no children, because a woman with children may run and hide, but when shit gets real they shoot the perp in the face 5 times with a .38.) http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/georgia-mom-shoots-home-intruder-face-article-1.1234400
I see your point but you wont change my mind.
Unless they physically harm me i wont be killing no one

I was about to say that's fucked up if the owner got charged, but then I went down and you said they didn't get charged. Happy days :). What are you gonna do, let a bunch of random ass people ransack your house and steal your belongings? I can't believe they would even consider charging them. If these dumb fucks don't have the respect to go out and earn things on their own, and decide to take it from others... People like that don't belong here
Right on. If they practice that kind of behavior the government has a job for them.

prolly worse if I had a family living there with me... (Home Owner) I hope he gets off and I sympathize fully with him and I hope the jury does to... hopefully charges are dropped and it don't make it that far...

Many people in NorCal have a few plants in their back yards - 95% are families. It's hard to ignore this fact that we are not talking about hardened criminals growing cannabis in large quantities to get rich on trade, we are talking about families.

regarding the last sentence I cropped (hope you don't mind), charges have not been filed against the home owner and as long as he has his medical forms, he is legit. I look at the comment made, "It took the police 2 hours to find out marijuana was at the location.". This tells me he did not have a full-out, pot farm. Dude, this was a closet or backyard grower who got hit, there is a hell of a lot of them in NorCal.

over pot?
Robbery or not. it sucks to have people break in and steal things. but i could and never would kill someone unless they were physically trying to harm me or my family.

not worth it to have a dead man on my conscious over some pot plants, or some jewerly.
I disagree.
It's not about what he came for OR how much he took.
It's about ENTERING YOUR HOME with the intent to TAKE YOUR THINGS.

Self defence (in UK) is defined as :
Protecting yourself from physical harm
protecting someone else from physical harm
protecting your material possessions
protecting someone else's material possessions.

But, every year, farmers (Not cannabis growers actual wheat, pigs, barley farmers...) are imprisoned for opening fire on thieves who have repeatedly targeted their property.
Much of the time the thieves are gypsies with long criminal histories and the farmers have involved police is MANY previous thefts, and burglaries (even robberies!) but the police hardly ever solve these crimes and NEVER stop them happening.
So the farmer protects himself and ends up serving a few years in prison.

It stinks.

One gram or one acre
If someone enters YOUR HOME with the intention to take your things they deserve stopping.

And one gram would be the thin end of the wedge.
If your 'conscience' stopped you protecting your things they would be back for two grams, an ounce, half a kilo,
"everything you own and a blow job off your wife/daughter...."

Stop it before it starts
Send a message to others who prey on the honest.

Agree.

However, without the ability to read minds, there is no way to determine the ACTUAL intent of ANY piece of shit sumbitch' that breaks into your home.

"Oh...Hi, don't worry, I just broke into your house to steal some shit and not to hurt anyone. You can trust me, relax...."

Yea, fuck that.

Considering the consequences could be the loss of life or serious injury of my family and I, I'm not taking that chance, and will treat any sumbitch' that breaks into my house as a deadly threat. I'll be g'damned if I'm losing a family member over an intruder/s claiming to be a "thief" and not a murderer.

So, this stuff can get very tricky. If you begin to look at the facts of gun use trials, it is very strange, what the jury may do.

And a "certain" pot house??? That can be a problem. If you are defending an illegal activity....well it may not sit well with a jury.

So, in CA, I think this will all depend on the definition of legal cannabis, this guy's amounts, documentation, etc.

Without those material facts, you can almost see a felony murder for the homeowner, too. What if it was a kilo of Cocaine? See?

If he has a Doctors Note....he is in much better shape legally. Also, if he just had a couple oz, these clowns were
after, in this State he may still be fine with no SB420 protection. If he is a little ole dealer....wooops.

Some States, it might be very much worse.

"sheriff responded to shots fired at 2pm
The man [shot on floor] was flown to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5.16pm...."

3 hours 16 minutes to fly a ma to hospital?
Did they fly him to the ER in Honolulu ?
You are creating conclusions from nothing, based on the quote. Why do you assume that the helicopter arrived instantly? He could have gotten to hospital, died 2 hours later, and as such declared dead at 5:16. You're reading things which simply are not there, again, based on the quote you used.

only problem is in mi . were not allowed to have guns in the house if its a caregiver residents butttttttttttt were allowed to conceal carry a hand gun. that's the loop hole. there are a lot of cases people think they can break into a grow house and they find them selves unprepared for the ass kicking the grower will put onto them . damn right when comes to protecting your self or your property. if you hesitate you end up dead or worse they kill your family too

Shoot to wound? Have you accomplished that? Aren't there arteries and stuff and the bullet deflect to wonder about.

It reminds me of what they used to say about drowning, when we were kids. It only takes a thimble full. (kept me away from thimbles, I'll tell you what)

It seems like some people can soak up lead, 9mm for example. You can't hardly kill them. The police records on this is a horror show, for the tactical minded

And then some people will just twitch that leg or arm just enough to take a Golden BB, not matter what humane shot you tried. I am quite sure you know all this and I am certainly not doubting you can get a sight picture and pick a target. But, what?

Through the shoulder above the lung, is about the only safe hand sized target. With hollow point, I agree that is quite a wallop, but the fragments.

So, not messing with you, just trying to understand your point of aim.

Very well said. Just because James bond keeps getting shot in the leg, well...

Are rubber bullets legal for civilians to own? (Would seem odd if they weren't given lethal bullets being legal)

I think all the people that have been in the shit will tell you the instinct and the training is to get rounds to center of mass.

And we really have to understand the distances here, close. And the time. None.

I would have a very hard time going snake eyes, if startled, and sure hope I don't choke.

And you really aren't allowed to kill someone just because they came in your house. Shooting an unarmed intruder is not cricket.

So, the cops are on your side in this, but it better be good.

or perhaps they are just there for some cash some food and nothing else.

Or perhaps they are there and that is enough. This is a very bad world sometimes and to assume that some who has targeted you and your home has anything other than bad intentions is naive. Thank God for you and your kind as it is a better world for your influence and ideals. Thank me and folks like me who are the reason predators should and will think twice before violating someones castle.

Yeah there is no doubt you can get clipped and just walk on. But, getting clipped on the wrong side of that leg is just too dramatic. :)

I go back and forth about less than lethal, rubber bullets, etc. I think I can get beanbag shotgun rounds, etc. Or at least the loads.

But, am I trying to quell a riot, with my mates, or am I the last best hope, for me and mine own, ass?

So, I guess that's the ultimate answer. On trial by 12, or carried in a box by 6?

If you need something from me; ask. I am very likely to give it to you.
BUT
I'll let you know now friends. Rip anything from me and I definitively catch you. I will kill you (not likely to be fast either as I like to see a bit of fear in the eyes of someone that pisses me off that bad).
There will be no calling the cops and no body to send home to momma.
I will have beautiful rose bushes in my yard thriving on ash and bonemeal and I will sleep like a baby.
If you don't like the rules of the game; don't play. If your kids grow up without you... blame yourself.

Disappearing someone....hmmmmm....

Not for the UN-observant, the freeky deeky, heat of the moment, type. Too likely to miss the loose ends.....risky, but clearly the best option if you can pull it off.
