HLG 600 R Spec & Mars Hydro FC4800 questions

Should I be worried about heat issues in a 4x4 with the 600 (driver mounted)
Not during winter months if you are in an area where temps outside drop pretty low.
It does look like those connections can be split into a longer wire. I'd say it's doable. (Being able to remove the driver from the tent)

I honestly feel like you should give it a test run before you worry about it. I could handle 2x 1k HPS. In a 4x8 when I ran them. I’m willing to bet you can work around that driver

At this point I would say no. I just hit the light with a temp gun and the highest temp on the heat sync is 34 deg celsius running at 50%. The canopy is at 23 deg. I have not had this thing up to full power yet but at this point it is not a problem. I do have a fan blowing on the driver across the heat sync and another blowing across the canopy. I can say it is much cooler than the HPS I replaced with this.

Edit: I do wonder why HLG does not sell extensions for them though. Seems odd to pay premium prices for a light and than have to DIY wiring for it. I am sure it is easy enough to do but there should be a vendor option.

I feel like they don’t offer extensions because it’s prob not really a worry. I’d be willing to bet the heat sink is hotter.

The numbers I just gave are live and just checked. Now as I say it is running at 50 % right now in veg and there is a fan blowing directly on the heat sync and driver so I am sure that is bringing the temp down but the numbers I quoted are accurate.

I’m not discrediting you. I’m just saying they prob don’t offer extensions due to the fact that a higher portion of people don’t need/use them. Or just buy the wire and connector and make their own

They might. I just noticed that ChilLed has them.

So this was hlg’s response to my question about the cord to the driver and if I could make a special request to get one if it didn’t come with the long cord. @Doug Dawson i would contact them and ask why yours didn’t come with a 8 ft cord! :fire:
I will email them and ask, thanks. It does have an 8 foot cord from the driver to the wall. but when you look at the pic the driver connects to the panel in 3 places and the driver is connected to those cords with a 6 or 8 inch cable wired into the driver. It would need an extension connected to the tiny cord wired to the driver. This came pre assembled so all I did was plug it in20201112_183838.jpg.

LOL, no worries. It would not be that easy unfortunately. Here is a top down pic. The 8 footer is the power cable, there are no other long cords here. All it really needs it the driver extension that Padawan showed. I could not find one on the HLG site.

your tent being a comfortable temperature depends greatly on the size and temperature of the room its in. A tent in a small hot room will be hot no matter what, a tent in a large room close to room temps with plenty of air exchange will probably be okay.

I think they misunderstood what you meant. You should ask about remote mounting the driver.
Fuck I think your right im gonna email them again to see if they can tax me more to get one already set up like that. From their first response I don’t think it’ll be a problem but am not gonna pay more than ~$25. Does any1 know how hard would it be to do myself (I’m not very electronically inclined) but wouldn’t think of this being too hard. I have replaced male and female plugs on extension cords before and don’t think that this would be that much different, but I Could be totally wrong which is why I am asking the community.

It looks very simple, just need the right gauge wire and connectors.

Excuse me teacher... What are light bins?
Basically just a way of sorting the diodes during manufacturing process. Top bin refers to very few to no imperfections in the diode. Bottom bin has many imperfections. And your light is only as good as the diodes, the driver, and wavelenght

Ok thanks for the read.

Do manufacturers usually advertise it? Or put in in there specs?
