HLG 600 R Spec & Mars Hydro FC4800 questions

The problem is that many who cannot afford them or are not willing to spend it tend to bash the products. On top of that they like to call said people who do fork out our hard earned cash stupid for doing it. From my perspective that is an issue. I started growing with crappy Amazon blurple lights. Had to save up for months to buy my HLG so it pisses me off when people call me down for it. I dont care if you grow with HLG, Timber, SpiderFarmer, Mars or build your own. People should be more open about the different products and acknowledge the pros and cons of each. One of they guys I conversation with regularly here grows with SF and Mars, I have nothing negative to say about him or his lights.
This is the attitude i love to see. The times i have criticized something related to HLG ive tried to make the point that it wasnt to intentionally attack the brand. Im sure you also realize that when people consider you a premium brand and the "standard" in a lot of cases, that you will have some that hold them to a higher level.
They were the first in the quantum style boards if i remember correctly. They have a place and i understand that, but as you know, they are expensive and with many other competitors out there currently, its hard to justify the expenditure.

@Doug Dawson i am pulling the trigger on either the hlg 600 rspec or the 650r for my 4x4 (depends if I can compound the sale with the RIU coupon) I was wondering what the heat is like in your 4x4 right now with your 600r and what power percent are you running at right now & height? I am trying to decide to go with the AC infinity 6” or 8” fan. Currently I have a 6” 400CFM fan, but I plan to upgrade to another 4x4 or 5x5 in near future does anyone know if a 6” fan is enough for a 5x5 or do I need to go with the 8”?

They won't work together. You're gonna get 20% off in a few hours, but you can't add them together. I wish, lol.

Hey man, so let's look at this. For your 4x4 space the 600 is perfect, I think any more and you would either be running it on lower setting or having to add CO2. If you are going to upgrade to a 5x5 I would get the 650, if sticking with the 4x4 go for the 600. It gives you 37.5 watts per square foot so without CO2 is about as optimal as you will get I think. As for heat, my heat sync is right now at 33.5, my canopy temp is an even 25. The light is set at 50% and about 28" from plant canopy. I am flipping to flower in next week at which point I will raise the power up every day for a week until it is at 100% and at about 24". That is what Steven at HLG stated and the plants seem to love it. If you do go with either light let me know and I will forward you the instructions I got when I spoke to HLG. Here is a pic of my 4 plants 2 minutes ago when I measured my temps for you. The 2 on the left are Shiva Skunk, the 2 on the right are Maui Waui. They were all topped once. Oh and another note, I think the 6" fan should be fine for either tent. I am using a 4 inch and it is very easy to create negative pressure at less than 1/2 power so I think the 8" is probably overkill in my opinion. I know the HLG's are more expensive but no matter what, price aside, I cannot see you being disappointed with either purchase. I know I am super happy with mine. 20201126_213756.jpg

Yeah if you could forward that info that would be awesome cuz I’m definitely ordering one when the sale starts. I’ll stick with my 6” for now and see how it goes.

No problem. Here is what HLG gave me and so far it works amazing.
30" for veg and. 24" full power for flower. Adjust the light up slowly the 2nd week of 1212 until you reach full power over 5 days or so.
Now get yourself a killawat or similar device, they are cheap, and plug it into the wall. Than plug your light into it. Use the dial and the readout will tell you precisely what you are pulling from the wall. I am currently at 300 watts on the nose. It's easier than guessing with the dial. Also be prepared to up the nutes. Before my HLG I never went above 50% of what the GH feed chart showed. Right now I am feeding around 110 to 120% of the feed chart. The plants thrive under this LED and really need more nutes. Let me know if you need any more info, you can PM me if you like.

Ya, the KillAWatt is handy. I usually keep my boards at like 90 watts a piece and let the plants stretch closer during flower. If they get too close, I raise the lights. If they don't stretch enough, I lower them a little. It's kinda a pain to adjust the dimming on the ones without a potentiometer, so that's why I try to just adjust height. I have multiple lights though, not just one to adjust.

why do you still have light @ 50%? Are you just breaking it in

It has nothing to do with breaking it in, it's not an engine, it's good out of the box. The plants are in veg, they stay at 50% When you flip to flower the plants use more energy and as such need more light. Seedlings need very little light. It's about giving the plants the appropriate amount of light for maximum photosynthesis at each stage of their lives. When I flip to flower around the weekend it will stay at 50%. Than will come preflower, at that point I will start raising the bar as producing buds requires more energy. You have to remember this is in a 4x4 space and there is such a thing as too much light.

I got some photos mixed with autos about 12” tall showing signs of preflowers what height & wattage would you recommend to start with?

This is why you go with one of the "Legacy" sponsors of this forum, the ones that actually developed out of this forum: they actually answer your questions, whatever they might be instead of only answering questions that are "comfortable" to answer. Not too long ago stevo was just another forumer who started making lights, a part of the community. Seems like some newer sponsors just have a community manager who dont have the same commitment to the community.
So I guess the post your talking about has gone regarding the warranty on the lights when removing drivers( does not void HLG warranty correct ?)
