High Pressure Sodium bulb (GE) ordered with a lamp outlet

alright, in the mail i just received a 100 watt high pressure sodium made by GE, and a lamp holder which connects to any wall outlet. so i get the hps into the lamp holder, plug it in and nothing happens. i've been waiting for about 20 minutes and nothing is happening as i'm typing this. is this something that im supposed to expect, or is this due to the fact that i may need a different lamp holder
HPS is medium base and the lamp holder is as well

looks like you need a little help and some more research on indoor growing.....you need a ballast to run any hid bulb..the lamp holder and cord set need to run to the appropriate ballast for your bulb and the cord coming off the ballast goes into the electrical outlet.....unplug the damn thing asap before you ruin the bulb....
