Hermaphrodite problem

Hi, Since I started my little grow setup about four years ago, I've had excellent results using one 1000 watt led grow fixture with a brightness control knob. I don't know how the bud I wound up with could have been any better. Then I had the "bright" idea of adding a half dozen strips of blue/red led lights I had lying around totaling about 60 watts because I thought they would fill out the color spectrum nicely, plus the more lighting the merrier, right? Well, since adding those blurple light strips I've now had three grows all herm on me. I've been blaming that herming on poor seed genetics, but my current grow is from rather pricey seeds which are bred to be genetically stable compared with other feminized seeds, and what I'm seeing is another crop of hermaphrodites. Anyone who's ever had a carefully grown crop of herb go hermie knows how freaking depressing that feels and now it's happened three times. Well it just dawned on me a couple days ago that my problem just may be the addition of the blurple light strips to my setup--there are no light leaks, I'm very careful with nutrients and watering, and the on/off lighting schedule and heating/cooling are very much under control. So... what do you all think? May all this heartbreak really have been the result of nothing but the extra lighting I've been using? I have no other variables left to consider. Thanks for any input.

If Im not mistaken, all seeds are different which includes suseptibility to herm? Id mother a strain and run clones of what seems the best but this is quite the rabbit hole. My best strain is a herm I just listened to a few ppl saying to try it again and look for things to improve that may not notice yet. In your case maybe remove those lights.

Idk how lights can cause it if theyre applied at a good distance this should be interesting. If I gave someone a cut of mine they probably will throw heaps and seeds. Weird how a mothered plant almost knows its existance depends of straightening out its act lol ok now Im being silly.

Hi, I have unplugged the blurple light strips but now beginning weeks 7 of flowering there's nothing more to be done with this crop but let them finish then try yet again. Once thing for sure about hermaphrodites--they will keep you up at night. I'm trying to not feel so shitty about them but I'll get over it in time. I swear, though, if it happens again after I've ruled out every other possible cause of the problem I might start throwing things.

I feel ya thats the thing about growing weed, can make a lot fast but must not seed. Must cure and smoke softly. Thats the thing being dabs only its easy when it comes to that, its no issue. You like dabs? Just a press if the genetics are right which is common these days, could make some awesome flower rosin its all I do.

I used to love a good rip off a waterpipe but the coughing had to go. Now I have a couple dry herb vapes plus it's fun to make green dragon infusion. Sure, those two choices make seeded herb easier to deal with, but I'm missing the extra potency and flavor of sensi bud. I think I mostly miss the great, satisfying feeling of a successful grow. So.... nuttin' else to do but keep trying, dammit. After all, I've done it before so I can do it again.

Take the lights down, and grow some regular non feminized seeds on your next run. That would help get your confidence back.

Feminized plants can be sensitive and small amounts of stress can cause them to herm. I have never purchased a feminized seed in my 15+ years of growing. Ive made feminized seeds for friends, but I dont use them. Feminized seeds come with a greater risk, in my opinion.

If removing those blurple lights doesn't do the trick your idea is the one I will follow after that try. My problem is I have a couple varieties of feminized seeds I paid real good money for so I have to give them one more try. We shall see.

My money's on those blurple lights. Unplug them for the flowering this round and if there's no herm action take those lights out in the field and burn them alive.

I will burn them alive and post a photo. We will have snow by then and the contrast of flames and snow will hopefully add to the aesthetic. I have wondered, after all, whether those little LED lights explode when heated. See you in March.....
