Would it be possible to use a mixture of perlite and soil in a bucket. Say the bottom 3 inches perlite with a mixture of garden lime and then rest of the way up subtly mix in the soil until its mostly soil at the. Just thinking here. Would love to do hydro but DWC and all that just seems a bit much. This seems like the best of both worlds.

The stuff above the perlite eventually mixes into the perlite below every time you water, but yeah, I like to start fresh pots that way. If I don't all the perlite floats to the top anyway. :)

Oh, and I do like to use soil/compost/hummus instead of vermiculite.

Coco fiber works very well also, and you don't have to deal with the perlite dust all over everything. I use hydroton in the bottom of the bucket, then straight coco fiber to fill the bucket. I separate then wash and reuse the hydroton and coco.

Not to mention it's easier to dispose of coco fiber...

Now where might one go about to get this said coco fiber?? Also, when watering, how exactly do you?? Haha. Sounds stupid, i know. But what i mean exactly is do you want to pour over the whole top of the bucket until run off or what?

That's what I do hydroton bottoms about 2 inches and the rest coco u can order from amazon the bricks in my opinion after using coc their isn't any need for soil a lot easier on the pockets I can go 2 days between waterings if I can't get to them coco is the way to go I'm going outdoors and still gonna go with coco
