Help with my first grow !!! What’s going on with my plant?

Help! my plant (space cookies) is starting to yellow at the tips. It just started because it didn’t look like this last night. I’ve watered It every other day, this time going on third day because the moisture tester says my soil is still wet/moist. I’m growing in purple cow indicanja and haven’t used any nutes for over a week. I used lotus grow, 1/2 tsp in a gal of RO water, (edit not RO water, filtered water using zero water filtration pitcher.) ph to 7. Floor level temp has been consistent range from 73-74 degrees and canopy temp is also consistent between 75-80 degrees. From what my noob self has researched I’m leaning towards a potassium/nitrogen abundance or start of a deficiency? If so is there any way to figure out which it is or what is going on? I have 4 other plants going and none have this problem. The other plants are different strains though if that helps. Sorry for the blurple light, I hope having the flash on helps.

Sometimes if you take a picture in the dark the flash will help but it’s hard to tell too much with the purple lighting. Try taking a picture using the flash with the purple light off. Someone will chime in when they can see the plant in different light (: :peace:

looks like overwatering a tad bit of nitrogen toxicity. Soil looks dry but appears to only have been partially watered around the stalk.. Are you checking the soil a few inches below to ensure that you aren't watering just because the top layer appears dry? You don't want to water until your pots feel like their bone dry. If you've been doing it a long time, you get a feel for watering before that point. But it's not too far from bone dry. Cannabis loves it's dry cycle in soil grows.

Your plant is awfully green. Anyway to know if your soil is holding N? I'm guessing you're locking something out, not knowing too many other details.

Also, spotty watering will do the same. Half the roots are getting the water/nutes they need, the dry stuff is burning the roots. That's actually what looks like more of a possibility. But I cant tell if it's how you watered, or if you disturbed the soil and made those dark spots. It def looks like a nitrogen/watering issue though.

I have this soil/ph meter that probes the soil. Most of my pots are fabric (7gal) and I never have watered till I had run off. Not to say I haven’t overwatered. this is my 1St grow so I don’t have that experience yet. But I’m working on it. I just watered it this morning after almost 3 days of not watering. So they weren’t bone dry, But somewhat dry. But yes when I water its usually around the stalk. Is that bad? Thank you for responding too. I really appreciate it.

How can I find out if my soil is holding N? I’m using purple cow indicanja and it says I don’t need to add nute, but I do from time to time.

I think that’s partially the problem. I’m using a gal milk jug to water. I need to invest it a good watering jug that doesn’t move the soil when I water the ladies. And those dark spots are because I just watered them. It was almost 3 days since my last watering. But they weren’t dry tho. The pots had some weight to them and was moist to the touch less than an inch in the soil.

Sort of yes. It's the old case of growing in a too big of a pot too soon. It's why most growers swear by up-potting. BUT, it's def possible. Lots of growers don't bother. It's tricky though. In such a big pot, how your first time growing, could you possibly estimate where those roots are by now? They move SUPER fast once they get going. The circle of water should be the same size as the plant, plus a few inches, and keep expanding w/ the plant until you're watering the entire pot(which makes for the best/most consistent watering cycles).

So what you're gonna wanna do is just stop watering now. They will either pray(point up at a beautiful angle <3 ) because they wanted the water you just gave them, or they will wilt a little more. Either way, you WAIT UNTIL THEY PRAY. I assure you they will. Once they stop, that is when you start watching the soil. The plants should start to relax, and wilt again in a VERY slightly different angle then they do when they are over watered. It's hard to tell them apart, but once you observe both, you get familiar with her behavior and signals.

NOW... Once she's dried out and telling you she needs water... you gotta flush your whole pot. Some might even say you should flush now because they look like they're almost to the edges of the pots. You most likely have salts built up from not doing runoff. Even without nutes, the soil has some and no drainage means the wet nutes(mobile ones I believe?) that weren't consumed change and become toxic powders(salts). Hope this all helps.

What does the label say for the soil you're using? If you don't have a label, google it. Obviously if it says you don't need to add nutrients, it assumes there are nutrients in there already...and you adding more is not helping your situation.

Walmart, Home depot, Lowes, Hydro stores.. you go buy a $10 rapitest 4 way soil kit. Comes w/ 4 little testers and some powders for each. But in general, most soils DO have nitrogen in them. Cheaper soils tend to actually be pretreated to release the stuff over time, which ends up being bad as Cannabis prefers less and less as it ages.

ok cool. I’m going to find one, hopefully today. What are some things I can put in if I hav deficiencies/abundance of nutes? Or where could I find that info do you know?

It's actually a little more complicated than just putting something in. It could be a PH issue not allowing a certain nute inside the roots. That's called lockout and will create deficiencies. Now, the soil and nutes, could possibly nave none of that same nute and obviously the ph wouldn't have anything to do with that.

On the other end of the spectrum, A lockout of nute A can create a toxicity of nute B. So flushing to purge nute A, may end up hurting you worse because you just further locked out B..

It gets complicated and there is YEARS of science to learn if you wanna master it. And even masters run into problems. Pros post here regularly lol

That said, I would look up a Cannabis Leaf Chart and a Cannabis Nutrient Lockout Chart. Those coupled with the search bar here on RIU and you will have a Greenthumb in no time.

This is what the label says. What I left out was the purple cow soil is in the bottom third or half of the pot. The top is ffof, perlite, coco coir.

How do I flush my whole pot? Just use filtered water and water till I have run off? Or use a flush nute?

Yes. Not a little. Make that baby piss. Get them salts outta there. You want about 20% of the amount you pour in, to piss out. But wait to do it. You need at least another 24 hours to see if she's drowning or thirsty. Those yellow tips are almost 100% nitrogen burn though. We just need you to be patient with the water lol. Also, you'll be watering the entire pots from now on. They're big enough and it will help them more than hurt them. Probably runoff 20% every other or every 3rd watering. Once they need watering everyday(that means the pot is FULL of roots lol), you can runoff everyday because you'll most likely be their supplier of food by then. Plants are all different. There are no such things as the perfect watering and feeding schedules. Growers work their ways to their own personal sweet spots for production, and every set of genetics, as well as most non laboratory environments are different.
