im thinking of growing in an empty loft compartment space is not an issue but money is
ive been looking at different lights to use and on this website i can get 125w cfls for around £18
http://www.basementlighting.com/Merc...=1/PROD/elc125

and here i can get a complete 600w grow light set for around £55
http://www.basementlighting.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=HRLP
my questions are
would i be better getting 3 x 125w cfl for £55 or the 600w grow light set up for my set up
if i were to get the 3 cfls which light spectum from the scroll down list will i choose one blue one red and one both spectrums?
is it safe to use that 600w grow light in my loft because of all the dust debris etc?

im from america, what are those numbers in american dollars?
no in british pounds,
there are also alot of other cfls so i dunno whether to get less more powerful ones or get one big one and have smaller ones around trhe side of the plant ,
what will get me more higher potency and higher yeild cfl or the grow lamp
any help will be much appreciated

The high pressure sodium bulbs puts out alot more light than the cfls and is really really worth the investment.if u had 3 plants w/125w on each you'd get somewhere around a few ounces total, 3 plants under the 600w hps could yeild 3-4 oz a plant or more.

depends on size of the plants, I'd say probally 3 big ass plants, 4-5 big plants ,6-12 small plants. do you want lots of little plants or fewer larger plants?

absolutely do get the 600w as long as you can cool it down. But you`ll need a different light with a blue spectrum for vegging, unless you want to go 12\12 from seed, which i wouldn`t recommend with a HPS.

EDIT: looks like ventilation could become a problem in that space. Can you make hole in the walls that lead to outside for intake\outtake fans?

and theres very good airflow up there btw just in the summer gets verr hot cos that aa south facing roof could use the compartment on the other side which will be much cooler and also has huge amounts of space but it very messy will take alot of time to tidy have to make sum flooring too lol but that fine i got boards in there

and would 2 x 300w dual spectrum cfl be better than one 600w grow light
the 2 300w lights are more expensive with wires they come to around £100 with delivery
the 600w grow light comes to around £65 with delivery
the cfls i could put the bulb alot closer, but thwere will be alot less lumens
the cfls more expensive less lumens but can put alot closer
so im wondering what will give me the fastest growth, biggest yeild, best buds?

thanks i think my main problem heat and ventilation up there cant wait to get this grow going like literally my onl other problem is constructing a case for it especially if it in the bigger loft compartment cos there not much room to stand and its quite hard to move around in there
any easy ways of making a grow box you know of one able to hold like 4 plants

would that 600w be efficient for the first 2 months where ill have the lights on for long periods of time during the day because at the start ill have to keep the light far away from the seedlings because theyll burn so the plant will stretch for light so im not sure whether ill need cfls too start and if i do how many will i need and for how loong

yeah, you could use blue spectrum CFLs to veg, it would be way more economic than an HPS bulb on 18\6 timer. TBH i don`t know how good HPS bulbs are for vegging in the first place, what with all that red light. People usually use CFLs or metal halide bulbs for vegging, MH being expensive and high maintenance as well.

So how long till you get going you reckon? :leaf:
