Help with growing indoors

The grow faq is good but it helps to get a basic idea of whats going on first so you can better understand the faq. I was complaining about clark ot anything. Hi gogrow, do you think you could write up a basic grow guide and put it in the grow faq so that people can read that first? Because when I started out I learnt from this site and it would of been useful to get the basics and then expand on them by reading the faq. Just a thought.

these bigger lights you mentioned ?
are the lights battery powered or will they need to be plugged into an a socket ?
will the bubl life be sufficent for my entire grow period ?
why do i need to ph test my plants ?
how do i regulate nutrients
etc :)

thanks alot slim, i will be starting my grow in about two weeks hopefully :)

Veg phase is the first part of the plants lifecycle where it grows and not much else, it needs a high nitrogen fertilizer and blue (6400k) spectrum light so that it can photosynthesise and get the nutrients it needs. When the plant has grown to a decent size which depends on how much room you have then you change the light schedule to 12/12 which puts the plant into flowering phase. In nature the plant vegges in spring and summer when the days are long and is put into flowering phase by the shortening of the days in autumn. In the flowering phase the plant grows buds and secretes resin, it also carries on growing like it did in the veg phase so it might double in size and height in flower. The plant makes the best use of red (2700k) spectrum light and high phosphorous fertilizers in the flower phase. The flower phase ends with harvesting the plant, when the buds get nice and big the little hairs on them turn amber so you know THC levels have peaked, that's when you harvest them. It's more complicated then just the hairs though, you might want to check harvesting in the faq for more info. The lights will be plugged into a socket. The bulbs will last our whole grow easily. I'm not going to do PH tests because i'm lazy, the PH of the growing medium effects the plant ability to take in nutrients, if the PH is way off what it should be the plant can be dameged, I think the ph should be around 6-7 but im not sure. I don't know how you regulate nutrients with that bubbleponics kit, it will probably tell you in it's instructions. With soil you just give it a certain amount whenever you water it.

i have to jump in here and say dont waste your money on one of those hydroponic kits.... you are going to be disappointed... you can build one of those "bubbleponic" setups for about $40.... the most expensive thing about those are the lights.... i would suggest to start out your first grow with soil and read up on the hydro... we have alot of knowledgeable hydro growers on here that can help you out with building a system

I think you should probably go with soil as well, but I didn't want to seem pushy. Those lights in that kit are dual spectrum so they give off red and blue at the same time so you could use the same light setup all the way through and just change the time they were on and off. How tall the space needs to be depends on your pot height, your lights and how big you want the plant. HPS and MH need about a foot of space between them and the plant to avoid burning the leaves, cfls don't need as much space between, your plant could possibly get about four foot high it's unlikely but you never know. So the height you need is your pot height+4 feet+1 foot+ the minimum height your light will be away from the roof of the grow room. So about 6 foot would be ideal but you can grow in smaller rooms.

yeah space really isint an issue :), i think im going to be making the grow cupoard soonish it will be have about 7 foot of height.
these questions are going to sound stupid but
which soild should i use ?
which nutrients and when ?
when do i water ?
i should always keep the lights about 2 inches from the top of the plant ?

are there any more factors i need to take into account :)
thank you for your help mate

i dont have all the answers.. but i do have some! lol

the soil you use, is up to you. some ppl like the expensive soils, some think it doesnt matter. i use cheap soil, and it works fine for me. all you have worry about is what is in the soil (any nutes, ph).

i dont use nutes, so i cant help you there.

you can water on a schedule, or you can water when the plant needs it. i stick my finger about an inch into the soil, if it is dry, i water. if it is moist, i do not water. works pretty good.

thats all i got for now... its too early to be thinking this hard :dunce: LOL

vents and fans, there are other things you can do depending if it is too hot, or too cold in your grow space.
