HELP WITH DIY BALLIST (wireing)

Then why 3 wires? Caps have 2. Im not saying your wrong (although im pretty sure my 1000s have both a cap and ignitor) but every cap i have ever worked with has been 2 wires.

I was replying to the guy asking where the cap was. And yes, HPS has both, MH only has an ignitor.

HPS or MH? I'm guessing HPS since you have an ignitor. You need to get the capacitor. All ballasts have one and your missing one.

maybe check with buddy that gave it to him he might still have it
once u get that will help u wire it up and if u have to buy a new cap should be on ballast label what u need

Here's my $0.02

1 - The wires don't look so good so I would replace those
2 - The parts I wouldn't run. It looks like they have some rust on them. Your asking for a fire to happen from that.
3 - Ignitors and caps are 2 different things because my 70w MH has a cap and my 70w HPS doesn't.
4 - If you want to save money buy a new wire it your self kit and find how its suppose to be wired up.

I was going to say how old is it and have you seen it internally for corrosion
